The Halls of Durin’s Folk (OOC)

And of old it was not darksome, but full of light and splendour, as is still remembered in our songs.

I just message Narv to see if he can make that so we can delete our own topics. If you look at the top right though you should see a X, that's delete.

phpBB doesn't let users delete their own topic once someone else posts in it, as that would mean deleting other people's posts too. You two can decide which one thread you want to use and I will delete the other one.

Gotcha, can you edit the post? As in can you just copy my post into the OP of this thread?

Hi Narv - I vote keep this one. Can we insert OOC into the title? Don't really need much planning I think - just enjoyment <3

Yup! Nerwen has the idea.

Narv can you keep this thread, put OOC in the title.
And then Thorin can just post his ideas in here.

Nerwen, I know you but Thorin I dont think we’ve met.

My name is Brenden, I was on the plaza from 2003-2011. There was a short hiatus between i believe like 2008 when I first joined the military where I didn’t post for a year or two, but on and off. Was a dwarf from the beginning and just love dwarves. Can’t wait to RP with you and build Khazad-Dum together.

Nerwen, long time since we got to role play and just get into a kingdom together. Let me know if you have any ideas you need help with! Can’t wait to see what that mind concocts.

As for me, I am hoping that I can create a feeling of the Old Clans again, but without the 7 different threads. I was thinking a single RP thread that has descriptions of a few clans (Miners, Crafters, Brewers) to start maybe one or two more, and then let each clan kinda just naturally form.

Glad to see the Plaza back and my old home Khazaddum. I'm tired of the people screeching at each other on other platforms. No guarantees as to how often I post. I seem to have less to say these days, which might in fact be a good thing. So far I don't seem to even be able to write a decent post. Twitter and Fakebook have atrophied my skills. 😁

(Edit: Hah! I got a point for this one!)

I got the opposite problem. I am on an art site where to do interactive writing collabs with another creative person and I have developed pretty bad diarrhea of the typewriter keys. I am kinda run on at times and it hard to get it to stop. I'd like to get back into doing writing on the Plaza again. I do have some happy memories in Khazadum, even though I have not really been attached to this kingdom in any official capacity.

Dis and Oak what a blast from the past. I missed you ladies. I can promise you one thing about the Khazad-Dum forums, I have no interest in bringing up things you find on other social media. It’s all glomping, hugging, RPing, and fun chit chat. Life has changed so much in the last almost 20 years, but we are all still friends and can just enjoy each other’s company for a bit whether you post a lot or a little.

Dis massive glomps! I was hopign you'd be showing up, you were a stalwart of KD back in the day!

Oro, I was on the plaza from about 2003 to 2009 seriously and then from 2011 till it shut sporadically. I do remember you vaguely (were you head of a Clan at one stage?). Here's hoping we gtet to work closer together this time around.

Nerwen - Did you contributre to the Mirrormere at one stage when it was beiung run by Star Flower? I remember you being very active in the RP/creative arena.

Anyways, onto me. I was predomiantly involved in the relative/RP side of KD back in the day. RPing, writing for the Mirrormere (I think that's what KD's newspaper was called) as well as the KD Army that slowly developped over time. Returning here all these years later, I do want to have clear hand in developping the kingdom so that it's not a carbon copy of what is used to be but has very strong flavour of it.

Ultimatley, I'd love to bring back the Mirrormere, the Clan System (after some close collaboration to make sure it will work properly and to tweak the system) and also get RPG's rerly established. I personally feel this is the first thing we should do. It gets members contributing, builds up the place and also allows to branch into the clans and Newsletter further down the line.

What does everybody think?

Does a massive leafy glomp of Oro.

I may be coming in to RP. Depending on your desires, it will either be a my leafy self or a Dwarf character - Dat that I created fairly recently when Plaza made the big changeover. I created her to be Dis' red bearded sister.

Dis and Dat -- rather tongue in cheek.

Timeloop: Given what you want to do, I think I will bring in Dat - that is unless some you are really Jonesing for Dr. Hornglas again.

Thorin I lead the Morogs, was involved in the Yukog’s, and dabbled in the other clans. Then I was heavily involved in the military. Loved every second of it. And generally loved RPing the halls of KD.

Oak I would accept either character or both. Time is too short to care about whether a tree should fit in KD, only that we love your company. I particularly loved Dr. Hornglas but Dat was fun too.

Hornglas was actually easier for me to RP and I didn't make very many posts with Dat. Not too many of real old timers know that character.
I'll stick with the short fluffy little Hornglas. :smiley24:

Oakie - I'll take you in any form my friend

To be honest, if you want to open threads I think go for it - I don't think there's any need to be too structured or otherwise. Make this a place you want to be and enjoy it during this very strange time.

And if you can't work out who I am, I ruled after Norin and TMM, into the transitions of regions, ran the Spa, the lore clan, was a Healer in the Army and wrote for the paper. The rest of the time I ran RPG training :D

Ok posted a basic clan thread. Figured it didn’t need to be too much, just a place where people could return and RP. If in the future we want to expand it and grow it into more than it currently is, the old thread can easily be closed and moved into retirement.

HI to all dwarfies in this thread. I remember ALL of you fondly! :) If you don't remember me (gasp and oh the horror of horrors and impossibility of impossibilities) maybe a quick what on the head with a rolling pin will refresh your memories. :-*

RALINDE! I am so glad you made it by here. If you want to jump into the clan thread, I would love to join you. As long as you promise not to smash me with a rolling pin. This old dwarf has many memories of being beaten by that wicked thing.

Okay my main OC is a doctor. Would she fit in the clan system, or would Dat be a better fit? As I recall, I had Dr. Hornglas following the stone cutters years ago.

*rubs knot forming on noggin* how could I forget the rolling pin? My memory is coming back I'm seeing lots of dear faces in here, Oro, Nerwen, Thorin, Oak, Ranlinde *Glomps all around* At one time I was clan leader in Morogs, did a stint as Queen and was Mahal for a stretch. I got a royal case of burnout and left for the most part. Most of the memories that have stuck are troll whacking and mess cleaning. Kinda knocked the fun out of it for me.

Since that time my kids have grown up, some now have families of their own. And I have more free time than I used. :smiley8: I'm here for some fun RP. I wanna recapture those fun early days.

You hair and beard is white. Well I am quite a bit fluffier too. I also have a lot extra time on my branches with hubster staying local. I am not spending as much time getting him ready for his work. So I will have more time for RP. I think I'll just join the Morogs as myself and see how goes. Things could get a bit hilarious with the little fluff bush thing.

Remember the Khazadum Christmas tree debacle? Well Christmas is 6 months away.

The local Huron Oak will always be remembered as dwarf friend.. I am so excited to get working on a post in the Morogs halls to interact with you and Dis

And Dis, I am so glad that our friendship has kept going even beyond the Plaza. Keeping up with you and learning about your kids and their families is such a wonderful thing. Thank you for your friendship over the years.

Ralinde, put the rolling pin down, I remember you well!

My RPC is a dwarf of Khazaddum who has, latterly, been living close to the borders of Rohan as he makes his journey back to KD. I've taken on the running of the Burx Urbans Clan, that seemed to be a clan that was always very vibrant in the old days.

My first rulers of Khazad-Dum were Loki and Marin. Then Annolori replaced Loki, and it was Anno and Marin. Anno and Marin left at the same time. Then it was Dis and Hrive. From there it is history.

Back then it was the Morogs with Dror, Narchryst, Dis, myself, Edwin, Ranlinde....geez I was looking over the Archives and my posts were soo bad. So awful.

@Thorin Firehelm were you Thorin Axehand back in the day perhaps?

Oro, I think we landed on the plaza about the same time. I vaguely remember Loki. The Anno and Marin days were the best. Don't feel too badly about those early posts. You grew up on the Plaza. Our friendship is something I've always treasured. Good times and good memories.

Forgive me friends, if I don't remember everything. A lot has happened in my life. Mostly good but it has been quite a long while for me.

I'll be RPing Dis as an old addled dwarf who isn't sure which of her memories are real and which aren't. Being taken to the undying lands and swinging that hammer around did a number on her wits. When she's had a bath, her white hair has a bit of a glowy aspect -a remnant from when she was in Valinor. Her clearest memories are being thrown out of pubs or running from the local authorities. :smiley8:

@Thorin Firehelm that makes sense. I just remembered another Thorin. There were a lot of Thorin’s along the way. Lol

@Dis That story is great. Can not wait to get to RP with you and enjoy the old lady, while also seeing her go through this transition. And of course Dis was thrown out and running from authorities, she always was a bad influence.

Oakie has always had a good heart. She always want to fix and heal things. Perhaps that is why she is winsome to so many.

Oakie does have a soul. But it has never been exactly clear what she is. She has eyes, a nose and a mouth, so she's a tree. She doesn't really have any special powers either -- except maybe to bury her face in her leaves and look like just a small shrubby tree thing. I anticipate the interactions with her can get comical at times as she tries to fit in with the Dwarf community because , well, she isn't a Dwarf and she has these big soulful eyes that are on the cute side.

@Oro, indeed there were! Just a thought, do you think ti would be useful to have a group who take charge of KD? I don't mean like a formal, rulership structure since we aren't at that place yet. But just a couple of us to make decisions in accordance with what people want or to discuss ideas that get thrown around?

@Oro you're right I also remember Marin! My bad...

@Thorin Firehelm I think that defeats the point of this new plaza. There's nothing to take charge of or make decisions. Just enjoy it.

@Queen Nerwen I don't think it does at all. As I said, I don't mean a formal structure, just a couple of us who can meet regularly and make sure KD is developing and discuss problems to ponder while it's developing. Organisation, even loosely, doesn't stop enjoyment does it?

I’m with Queen Nerwen on this one. There are 3 dwarves in KD, 1 minion, and 1 cute huorn bush. We really dont need any structure or organization, I know I dont care what you post or any of the others. Feel free to post in here if you have ideas, but I think that is the most “loose” organization that we need.

Fair enough, I was thinking of getting the Mirrormere started up again. Now obviously, at present, we don't have current events to report on since we only just got started, so I wanted to make it more of a creative writing journal. Where members can submit their poems, stories, pictures, etc. What's everyone's thoughts on that?

Am I the minion!? I am totally the minion! :D

I sincerely doubt we will actually ever need rulers again to be honest. If we stay like we are (keep in mind things will slow when lockdown eases everywhere) then it can easily be managed by a team of 3 like it is now. And we don't actually need rulers as we have the option to post whatever we want to (within reason). The only thing I would like to see the new mod team do, is encouraging keeping games threads unique as there is absolutely no need to have one in each forum. Like Oro said in PM, keep it as one big forum that just has a lot of kingdoms. Obviously only talking about games threads, not things like pubs as that makes sense to have one in each. Heck I have even made my threads self running, so if I got too busy and disappeared (which happened with a lot of people/threads way too often on old plaza) then the thread can still run without me.

And Thorin, if you want to make the Newspaper, go for it! Sounds like a great idea to me, as long as you dont ask me for stories as I hated writing for the newspapers :P

@Thorin Firehelm Go for it! I would love to see a newspaper again!

Alright gang, on the topic of header for our kingdom. I was looking around old archives and could not find much that I really liked as a new forum. I found some images on google, but i dont know copyright law. So my favorite one was this.
Or we could find one from an official artist, like Alan Lee, John Howe, or Ted Nasmith. Like this...

I think this is good - but it could be done on a theme? So it's not like CoLP or something?

@Queen Nerwen yes that's what I was thinking. A monthly issue with a different theme each time. I was going to do New Beginnings as this month's theme for obvious reasons. I'll set up the thread in here then pop an advert in the other kingdoms. I want other kingdoms to contribute too.

Ye mighty dwarven folk! I have a question to put to ye fine folk. I would like to restart the IK Poetry Competitions, they were some of the best memories I had back in the original run of the Plaza. I would love to know if anyone else feels even slightly similar to me. Are they a good idea? Am I jumping in too deep too early? Your thoughts are welcomed!

Hi peeps, I'm so glad that the plaza is back, allthough I don't have as much time to read and post as I did back in the day, but I'm actually looking forwardto posting again. I know we have the clan's going on and the axe throwing contest but I'm also looking forward to a pub reopening, maybe we can start about it as we rp through the burx usbans getting back up and running, but I feel like tending a bar again as I used to do back in the good old days :-)
