Gazing into the Abyss - The Sacrilegium Archives

I’ve decided to start the arduous (some may say Sisyphean) task of compiling all the major arcs of the characters I’ve created here on the plaza. The past few weeks I’ve taken to cataloguing how many of them actually exist and the list is well over 50 at this point there seems to be no slowing down. While having so many characters has never been an issue for me (it’s like writing a book after all), having a repository where I can catalogue, detail, and collate their stories is invaluable.

So without further ado…

Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!

Frost (also known as The Man in Black, Mr. Spider, and Magnifique Enfoiré) is a Black Númenórean with an ancient lineage that stretches to the founding of Númenor itself. Born to affluent parents with political and esoteric means, Frost showed an interest in the arcane from an early age. He was sent by his mother, a politician in the upper echelons of power in Umbar and aspiring sorceress, to live with the Lossoth of Frozen Wastes. There he lived for many years, learning the subtle magics of the hard, cold people. It was here that he was given the nickname Frost, after he stayed out all night on a hunt and came back to the village with his hair covered in frost and ice. While there, he also met a man who called himself Gætir, the Mountainkeeper. This man, if man he be at all, was a cultist and worshiper of the Witch-King. He showed Frost the many avenues of power that the Witch-King offered, and Frost was easily swayed to join the mystery cult with his strange mentor. He was given tattoos, powerful markings that lent him power and connection to the ancient Lord of the Nazgûl.

While living with the Snowmen, Frost met Iduna. Unbeknownst to Frost, she was with child when he was called back to Umbar by his parents. His father, determined to make sure Frost could not go back, delivered to him a forged letter, saying that both mother and child had perished. Broken by grief and anger, it was then that Frost began to search for a way to stave off death . His searching led him to become a pirate, much to his mother’s distaste who wanted her son to enter the world of Umbarean politics and rise through the ranks of the Great Houses.

He was able to win renown, however, through his many ventures and expeditions into lands unknown to many in the Black Lands, from the deserts of Far Harad to Lemuria in the Uttermost East. It was during this time away that a Dread Power took notice of him, noting his interesting and ease at manipulation, spiders, and the weaving of complicated webs, both physical and psychological. He was made an avatar and granted powers that he used to cause fear and unease.

He has also made a personal alliance (and likely more) with Zôrzimril, bonding over their mutual attraction, genderfluidity, and lust for life (and lust in general). It is with her that he plans on taking over Umbar and dominating the region. The two have only been together a short time, but in that short time have succeeded in causing much trouble. From Lindon, where they pulled off a heist under the nose of it's Shipwright lord, to Imladris where they stole correspondence exposed the personal effects of the Valley's lord himself. Their most recent venture is the hunt for a creature that may or may not even be real, but could be the key to immortality. Frost is not sure what he sees in Zôr that so appeals to him, but nonetheless does; she is alluring and entertaining and reminds him to never take his ambition from granted. She is as willing to kill as he is, but also knows when torture, mutilation, and humiliation work better. One day he hopes to help install her as the Queen of Umbar.

He's made some recent enemies among the fisher kings, a group of wealthy (and violent) smugglers throughout Gondor, when he began to challenge them and disrupt their trading routes. Being an Umbar nationalist, Frost attempted to wrestle control of the routes from old, dusty Gondorian bastards and use them to benefit his own people, those that had been spurned and looked down on for centuries and called "evil" by fools that could not see the decay in their own city. He often works with his cousin, Lômibêth, when gathering intel or planning sabotage in Minas Tirith. He's managed to create all sorts of connects within the White City in recent years, spreading a vast, spidery network through it's lifeblood, from wholesale fabric to rare books to opium dens. He learned of a dark secret the White City held, a trafficking ring with little in the of scruples or mores run by an individual known as BC.

He has opened (or reopened) the old Necromancer’s Guild and turned it into a proving ground for perspective recruits for the Black Host (or his own personal use), further ingratiating himself with the movers and shakers of the Black Lands. He and Zôr has caught the attention of another one of the Nine, Adûnaphel, who wishes to use them in her schemes, potentially putting the pair in the crosshairs of the more dangerous echelons of Mordor's complicated power structure. He accepted her partnership, chaffing at the restrictions and limitations put on him by the Lord of Angmar, and willing to risk sanity and body to secure his links to power.

Walpurga is a young Rohir from the remote town of Benton. The first few years of her life were quite happy with her and her mother. The fact she did not have a father did not register to her at all. However, as she grew older and began to realize how different her family structure was from the rest of the young people her age she began to wonder why. Inevitably, she asked her mother, Aethelgifu, about her father. Who was he? Where was he? Why wasn't he here with them? When would she be able to see him? Aethelgifu, despite knowing the day would eventually come, was not ready to help her daughter. She gave her young daughter vague answers, white lies, and half truths instead. Her father was a Númenórean from way down south, he was away, a very busy man with many things to do all over the world, hopefully he would around again soon and she could meet him. Eventually, however, Walpurga began to see these things for what they were. She realized that she was never going to see him, whoever he actually was, unless she went out to find him. She was, however, content with her life. She and her mother raised pigs and goats together on a small farm. The older Walpurga became, the more she began to relate to the animals she looked after than the people she lived with. The townsfolk treated her, not quite like a disease, not quite an outsider, but definitely someone who didn't deserve to belong. Walpurga was taller than the rest of them and had a head of thick black hair compared to the rich golden blonde of the village. She was never outrightly shunned, but she was never in doubt as to who her friends were in Benton: the pigs and goats, and the wild pony she'd managed to tame and name Svanhildr.

One fateful day she found a book amongst some of her mother's things. It was a strange thing because, like many of the Rohir, she couldn't read. The book was thick and advanced, full of thousands and thousands of words. Something stirred in Walpurga and she decided to use the book to teach herself to read. She would steal away into the wilds, miles from Benton to her favorite spot and read for hours. The book was a history of the kings of Gondor, an very in-depth analysis of their reigns, their faults, virtues, good decisions and bad. It took years for of determination, frustration, and uncertainty, but Walpurga learned to read. She would buy anything with words that peddlers would sell he on their way through Benton. Romances, fairy tales, histories, once she even bought an accounting ledger just because it was full of words she didn't know. However, her mother found out that she had stolen her book and immediately accused Walpurga of being just like her father: a thoughtless, mean-spirited, capricious, and duplicitous person. From that day a rift opened between mother and daughter that would never be healed. Unless absolutely necessary, they would not speak to each other at all. More and more, Walpurga found herself relying on the animals for companionship, having been robbed of nearly all human interaction.

Finally, she decided enough was enough and she left Benton with the intention join the famous Rohan Cavalry in Edoras. However, when she arrived it was nothing like what she imagined and was quickly put in the same position of having to resort to animals for companionship. This time she had a trio of baby skunks who imprinted on her as their mother, bought at the market on a whim, and a baby badger she saved from being killed by overly ambitious Cavalry members who saw the creatures as evil menaces. She was no better place now than when she was in Benton. She began to despair. One day, though, she followed a Gondorian man, tall with black hair and cobalt eyes (her own were a vibrant deep ocean blue). Her father? The coincidence turned out to be just that, but the embarrassing case of mistaken identity gave her a way out, a way to find who she was and what she wanted. She left Edoras and the Cavalry behind with Kamion and journeyed north with him. She learned how to fight, how to track, how to hunt, and how to dance. She went as far north and west as Mithlond, the harbor city of the elves. Finally, they turned back south, toward Minas Tirith, where Walpurga settled in quickly, finding new friends and companions, both human and animal. She even managed to open a little out of the way coffee shop she called "The Sword and the Scone" where one day she met Vipsania...

What she doesn't know are those that are searching for her as a result of her time in Rohan. There is a man, a mercenary member of the Cavalry, hired by the corrupt Marshal to hunt her down and bring her back to face her wrath. He will stop at nothing to hunt her down and destroy the blissful bubble Walpurga hoped to create by any means necessary, starting with a visit to her unsuspecting mother. There is also a hound, if a hound the size of a small pony can still be called a hound, searching for her after being given a dream warning of the dangers she was facing. Slowly, each of them is converging on Minas Tirth.

Finnbarr Galedeep

Finnbarr Galedeep was born before the rising of the moon. He lived with his mother and father in Alqualondë as simple fisherfolk. That changed with Fëanor and the Ñoldor arrived. His family was killed and young Finnbarr, barely nine years old at the time, was left alone. He was found later that night by Davos Seaworth and taken in as his adopted son. It was with him that Finnbarr learned the art of freediving and sailing. He grew in the light of the stars, taking an interest in marine biology in addition to diving and sailing. During a storm, after obsessively searching for them, Finnbarr found a cavern in which he found a cache of black pearls, going down deeper than any elf had ever gone. Upon his ascension, Davos declared him Galedeep, and his son.

However, with the rising of the sun, Finnbarr decided it was time to track down the person that killed his family, disregarding Davos’ pleas to let that Valar’s judgement stand. Finnbarr swore his own terrible oath then, vowing that no one would stand in his way to finding justice and that he alone would administer this justice. Separating from his adoptive father, Finnbarr set out in the wider world of Beleriand, acting as a wanderer until he came to the courts of Thargelion. He lived there for many years all the while investigating and searching, rising in favor of the king, Caranthir. That paradise was brought low though, by the designs of Morgoth during the Dagor Bragollach and Thargelion fell, despite Finnbarr’s attempts to stand and face the unnumbered hordes. Here he met the man and woman that would become his best friends, Verco and Delynna. They stood valiantly against the orcish and trollish hordes, but they were overwhelmed and Thargelion was lost.

They traveled after some, to Hithlum and entered the service of Maedhros, Caranthir’s older brother. He fought alongside him in the disastrous Nirnaeth Arnoediad but they were separated from the main host and pushed back. Verco and Finnbarr were forced to into the wilds. Finnbarr refuses to speak of the events during that time, referring to the years between the last defeat against Morgoth and the War of Wrath as "the Wild Years". Verco died during this time and Delynna disappeared without a trace. It was also during these years that the oath Finnbarr took was fulfilled, but not without consequence. Finnbarr would have been lost completely if not for the intervention of Cútaþar, a Nando living in Ossiriand. He brought him back from the brink of despair and taught him how to channel the anger and violence within him and make better use of it. After the War of Wrath, he was judged. He would not be allowed to step foot back on Aman until his fëa should pass to the Halls of Mandos. As Beleriand began to sink, Cútaþar and Finnbarr undertook a mammoth task, uproot and transplant a massive redwood tree sacred to the people of Cútaþar's community from Ossiriand to Eriador where the community had relocated.

At the advent of the Second Age, Finnbarr was amongst those ferrying people across the sea to the newly risen island of Númenor including Tyelpelfindis with whom he developed a rapport. Years down the line, Finnbarr came to care for a young boy, Númenyraumion, a boy not much older than he when he lost his parents. The lad’s parents had sailed west, leaving their young child to fend for himself. Finnbarr, in an attempt to repay the debt he owed to Davos for raising him, attempted to do so with Númenyraumion, but after a few weeks it became apparent that Finnbarr was not the kind of parent that the boy needed. Instead, he was taken in by Tyelpelfindis. He was with Númenyraumion the day Westernesse was destroyed, doing his best to help ferry refugees and survivors away from the cataclysm. However, they were blown off the ship and nearly lost at sea. If it had not been for Ossë, they would have drown a thousand leagues from land, alone and without hope. They were taken to Lindon were they did the best they could to pick up the pieces of their lives.

The Third Age was an eventful one for the Falmar. He rescued a woman named Saererys from a doomed cruise ship. Despite her memory loss, the two started a romance, the first Finnbarr truly experienced. They were happy for nearly a thousand years until Saererys began to yearn for the West, for the Undying Lands. Finnbarr, still cursed, could not join her. Their romance came to an end and Finnbarr was more alone than ever. Recovering from his heartbreak, Finnbarr took to the sea again with a vengeance, taking up an old past time he'd long thought he'd outgrown: chasing down and fighting whalers. He and the Pearl Queen waged a one ship war against one of the premiere whalers in Lindon, obtaining a letter of marque from Ñarmotar, king of Bar-in-Gonagwelu, to hunt down her ships and destroy them, saving the lives of hundreds of different species in the process. However, this did have the effect of being declared a pirate in Lindon, and persona non gratis.

Númenyraumion

Númenyraumion, the Son of the Western Storm, (or Anadûrohin in Adunaic) was born to parents who would have been better suited to have a pet rather than a child. Within a few short years of his birth, his parents decided it was time for them to sail west, leaving their nine-year-old son on the island of Númenor by himself. Without knowing what to do, the young Numey stayed in his family's home stealing away to the marketplaces and pilfering the food he would need for the next day. He found a stuffed wolf one day and the plush creature became his foremost companion for the rest of his life. He was found one day by Finnbarr Galedeep who followed him to his abandoned home and stayed with him. Eventually, Finnbarr tried to foster him. However it soon became apparent that Númenyraumion was not an elf meant for sailing. During his first month at sea he believed he was going to die. His life was on the great island, not on the seas of Middle-Earth. While the fostering did not take, a lifelong friendship developed between the two that was something like father and son.

He was fostered, then, by Tyelpelfindis who taught him to harness the power of his voice, a talent he had shown an inkling for at an early age, within a few years it was apparent that he held a power almost (but not quite) comparable to Lúthien herself. He learned to sing, to tell stories, and to listen to the tales of others and weave them into music the way it had been done in the elder days, a talent that would serve him well in the future. He learned at the feet of his foster mother, a royal tutor (among other things) and sat beside the younger son of the king, a tempestuous and ill-tempered prince that the world would later come to know as the Witch-King of Angmar.

Númenyraumion flourished on the island, despite the growing distaste for his presence. As the mood of the island changed, so did his appearance in public less and less, but he was still unwilling to leave his home.

During a secret masquerade, he met Anárion and fell in love. Their friendship and relationship was a rare one, but one that still flowered in the midst of the decay of Númenor. On the day the world changed forever, it was Númenyraumion that dragged Anárion to their ships, lest they drown. He was separated from his friend and lover when he was swept off Finnbarr's ship and nearly lost at seat. It was Finnbarr and his relationship with the sea spirit Ossë that saved him.

Despite being separated from Anárion, his time in Lindon was a happy one. He was able to explore a world he could not have imagined. That came to an end, however, when his foster mother gave up her spirit and his foster sister was taken from him to travel south the lands of Umbar, a place Númenyraumion was very unwilling to go. It was in the closing years of the Second Age that the tragedy of The Sun and the Storm came to an end. Anárion was killed in the siege of Barad-dûr. Númenyraumion coming too late to save him. At the dawn of the Third Age and in the throes of despair, Númenyraumion contemplated suicide, ultimately unable to commit to the act. He traveled to Umbar with Finnbarr, but found that his sister and foster father, the last ties he had to his home, were dead. He forsook a stable life and began to wander, learning and hearing tales from everyone he came across.

He wandered for three thousand years, traversing the whole of the world almost, coming in contact with things wonderous and dangerous. His obsession with stories and storytelling was the thing that kept him alive. He sought to learn stories and protect and preserve them. So much of the world's knowledge had been lost over the years, Numey saw himself as a warrior against decay and forgetfulness. He came across hundreds of thousands of people with hundreds of thousands of stories. He met a young girl named Bonnibel, an elf with a greater penchant for the sciences than Numey had ever scene. They built up a strong friendship, with Numey often listening to stories about experiments and ideas that went completely over his head. He watched her establish a small kingdom, bringing in all sorts of misfits and oddballs and giving them a place to call their own.

There is a family homestead within a small, hard to reach river valley in the southern Misty Mountains that Numey visits often. There is a family there that he has known for generations upon generations. He has become a fixed figure in their lives just as they became a stable (if mortal) rock in his own. While he considers Finnbarr family, he has a relationship with the valley family that transcends family. No matter the hardships, they (and he) have always come through. Most recently, that means taking the eldest daughter, Bearhilda, to a festival in Rivendell to see the outside world.

One of Númenyraumion's goals since his childhood, was to meet Arien, the spirt that piloted the sun across the sky. As a child he stitched together a balrog and named it Gothmog, imagining that one day he could show it to her and ask her about her little brother and what he was like before he fell. Even 4500 years later, he has not given up on this dream, believe that one day, with all his stories, he will catch her attention.

Fleeg Phlegmson
Fleeg’s Playlist

Fleeg is, well he's Fleeg. Fleeg is a goblin with a royal lineage. You wouldn’t know it to look at him though, or hear him speak, or smell him. Fleeg is middle aged for a goblin (however old that actually means is anyone’s guess), the son of Phlegm Fleegsdottir and an ignominious father who has been all but forgotten in the mists of time (he got lost one day in the Black Pits and just sort of disappeared). Through his mother, Fleeg (and his older brother Mig), are direct descendants of Fleeg the First, the first goblin and absent rule of all goblinkind. Fleeg is likely the most disappointing of all the descendants of the cruelest goblin that ever struck fear into the hearts of his foes. Fleeg fancies himself a businessgoblin but in reality is often bailed out by his brother Mig who is often in-between bouts of wanting to kill his brother and wanting to beat some common sense into him.

Having failed at creating a United Bank of Mordor (largely because the scheme was poorly executed) he decided to use his talents to create a murder hornet apiary. Whether or not this idea was merely stupid or in fact disastrous still remains to be seen. But let's be honest, everyone knows this is a bad idea and it's going to get someone (probably not Fleeg, but someone) killed.

Fleeg and his best friend/worst enemy/CHaOSBro, Reg, have recently gone into business together. Much to the chagrin, bafflement, and utter annoyance of friends and family, they worked together to build and run the “Uhhhhhhhh Spa”, the first of it’s kind in the entire history of Mordor and evil in general. Having sunk most of his fortune, the part that Mig allows him to use anyway, into this venture, he is desperate for it to work.

Somewhere in the midst of all of these business ventures, Fleeg and Reg have found time to travel, going as far south so far as Umbar and as far north at Angmar, including a detour the Bruinen for a fishing contest. He also recently become enraptured with another goblin, the wondrously bureaucratic Búbosha, someone his uptight, unfriendly, and unhappy mother might approve of (if they don't kill each other first in the upcoming cooking competition). It remains to be seen, though, if anything should come of such an enrapturement because of all the debt he has accumulated, both in terms of finances and in terms of social debt. It is unknown what will kill him first, the murder hornets, Reg, Búbosha, or Swiltang, but it is likely that the goblin’s days are numbered if he doesn’t stop acting like an idiot. He has also been made aware quite recently of the existence of a Fleeg Fan Club, what he plans on doing with this knowledge or if he understands the implications of this remain to be seen.

His ancestry includes the infamous Fleeg the First, the first goblin, created as an experiment during the War of the Jewels. He proved too clever and killed his creators, destroying the secret to making more like him. After the fall of Morgoth, the goblins (and many orcs as well) were leaderless and on the brink of extinction. It was then that Fleeg decided he would not just be their creator, he would also be their ruler. He remained king for the duration of the Second Age. After Sauron's fall at the hands of Isildur, it was Fleeg that organized a mission to attempt to recover the precious One Ring. The mission failed and all believed Fleeg was killed in the attack. However, a very angry goblin that matches the old songs has appeared and might just be Fleeg the First.

Another ancestor of Fleeg was Fleeg the Unlucky, a pirate goblin living in the Third Age. He was originally known as Fleeg the Lucky for his ability to sneak up on Gondorian ships without being seen. However, that all turned around when he and all his fleet were sunk off the coast of Dol Amroth in an overly ambitious plan to sack the city.

Fleeg the Alchemist, also known as the Last Good Fleeg, was Fleeg's great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandfather. He was a genius with alchemical formulas and medicine. Supposedly he was able to find a way to turn lead it gold and even found the Philosopher's Stone that gave him immortality. He disappeared shortly after the discovery.

Jorgy Underash & the Hobbits of the Shire

Jorgy Underash is perhaps the strangest hobbit that ever hobbited. He's not sure where he came from; one day he simply woke up in a pile of campfire ashes in an out of the way neck of the woods in the Southfarthing. He woke with no memory of who he was or where he came from. He was certain one thing, he was a hobbit and he was hungry. He remembered his name was Jorgy, but aside from that everything was a blank. He picked the surname "Underash" because he thought it was puny and clever. Jorgy is a great fan of puns and wordplay, even if none of the words he used made any sense to him. He lived as a hobo hobbit for a while, hanging out with birds and squirrels and badgers named Reginald, but after being woken up one too many times by a cantankerous owl, he decided it was time to try and live with the rest of the hobbits.

Feeling the natural pull of Hobbiton and Bywater, Jorgy then made his way there. There were many things he needed to learn in order to fit in as a hobbit, like what second breakfast was, what elevensies actually was, how to wear clothing (preferable before actually reaching Hobbiton) and how to walk properly. Many of these things, aside from the clothes wearing, he learned from his new best friend in the entire world: Pearl Brockhouse. Without Pearl, Jorgy would be a hopeless mess instead of a silly mess. She's taught him to read and write, how to cook (nothing more complicated that muffins at this point), and how to set up a house (which Jorgy is still getting a hang of).

Each day, Jorgy hopes to learn more about what it means to be a hobbit and how to fit in better with his new community. Elsewise, there isn’t much to tell about Jorgy, he gets lost very easily (and when he gets lost, he gets very lost), and loves the idea of racing. Running, hopping, and skipping are some of Jorgy’s favorite activities. He hopes to learn more and have as good a time as any, this includes buying a goat from the Market, writing a book of poems about cooking, and learning to play the tuba.

His neighbor, the kindly Old Widow Pumpkinberry looks after him too, making sure he's fed himself hasn't accidently been buried alive in a pile of all purpose baking flour.

Jorgy might be a strange hobbit when viewed next to other hobbits, but what he lacks in "common hobbit sense" he makes up for in heart, love, adventurousness, and imagination. He is fiercely loyal to his friends, especially the ones that have shown him kindness and understand on his weird roundabout journey. While he knows he has a ways to go before he learns everything, he eagerly awaits each new day as an opportunity to learn something new about himself and the people around him.

Sarghêst & Horna

Born in the harsh environs of the Dead Marshes, orcish brothers Sarghêst and Horna learned from a very young age how difficult and brutal life could be. Two of seven children, Sarghest and Horna were the only two from their brood to reach maturity. Some of their siblings were killed in raids between clans or territory disputes, others were killed by the grim nature of the marshes themselves. They learned quickly that to live in a world like this, they needed to be better than anyone around them, and that meant exercising their minds as much as their bodies.

By sheer happenstance, the two brothers were on a raiding party, a loose collection of orcs and goblins in the territory, that happened on a shipment of scrolls and books bound for the library of Minas Tirith. While there rest of the party were sorely disappointed, these two brothers knew they had found a gold mine. They immersed themselves in philosophy, art, rhetoric, musical and literary theory, anthropology, and linguistics.

Within a very short time, due to their persuasive arguments and brutally violent abilities, Sarghêst and Horna found themselves the co-leaders of their ragtag coalition. But their aspirations were greater than being the war chiefs of mud huts, frozen bogs, and crocodiles. They turned their attentions outside the great swamps. Horna looked north, toward the great and terrible kingdom of Angmar while Sarghêst looked south to the realm of Mordor.

The brothers still kept in contact with one another and rejoiced in the triumphs of the other, hoping one day to be able to find a way to reunite and rule a true kingdom of orcs together. Horna quickly fell in with the blacksmiths of Carn Dûm, using his knowledge of bog iron and crafting to the catch the notice of Yarltang. He created a war hammer worthy of a king, hoping to impress the mercurial boldog with his skills. The north suited Horna, who thrived in the cold climate. Despite being indebted for a favor to a hag name Grandmother Scrimshaw, Horna found that he loved the snow and spruce forests far more than he ever did the swamps. He felt alive in such a way that the Dead Marshes could never offer him. He developed a following of orcs and men, those who saw his work ethic and his leadership and emulated it. Still a brawler and a killer, Horna used his followers and admirers to raid the villages and farmsteads outside the realm of Angmar, stockpiling provisions, weapons, and supplies for a purpose one which he alone keeps counsel.

Sarghêst found his way into the Black Host, Mordor’s army. There he was tested and approved of by Swiltang, the brother of Yarltang. While moving quickly through the lower ranks, Sarghêst has yet to make the impact he had hoped, but ever the patient brother, he bid his time. It was on a search and recover mission that Sarghêst came under the gaze of Adûnaphel who had him transferred to her personal squadron of soldiers. Yet, in the end, it was his wits that served him best rather than his skill at arms. He was able to sniff out an informant, a spy for one of the other Nazgûl. He rose in the favor of the Lady Ringwraith and served as her emissary when a tribe of Easterlings in Rhûn tried to defy her rule there. He was able to negotiate a settlement between the two that brought the tribe back into the graces of his employer with only minimal bloodshed. Finally, he was trusted to seek out an old ally of Adûnaphel, an ent by the name of Thornspawn.

 I meant for everyone to get the reference! The brothers will do a fair bit of crushing, driving, and hearing lamentations once that gets around.

As far as the animals go, Carni will get her own entry, as well as Mokkan and hopefully Osa but the other ones are too small and don't really have a story of their own... yet.

Born Felmenar Silmëdil under the light of the Two Trees in Valinor, Arioch was captured during the Dagor Bragollach and turned into a vampire by none other than Thuringwethil herself. As an elf, Arioch was prone to violence, delighting in contests of strength and agility as well as shows of excessive force. While in Valinor, he trained under Tulkas and Eönwë until he determined he could not learn what he craved from the Vala. Instead he began to gravitate toward Fëanor and his sons and the unspoken promise of conflict. While never directly supporting them, he helped convince his distant cousin, Finrod, that going to Beleriand in pursuit of Morgoth was the correct and just thing to do. He showed great prowess and skill during the battles, earning him a valued position in the court of Tol Sirion.

After he was turned, the firebrand was shown the delights of leisure and hedonism, things he embraced at full tilt. He stayed in Tol Sirion through it’s occupation by Mairon, one of the members of Thuringwethil’s entourage, but when the castle was thrown down, he fled to the east, forsaking the rest of the war as he began to establish his nest in the northern reaches of Middle-Earth. At some point, the vampire lord was contacted by Mairon, using the name Annatar, and pressed into service again, receiving the same position as his former mistress, that of messenger between Annatar and his newest servants, the Ringwraiths. Still incredibly skilled with the blade, Arioch fought alongside Annatar during the wars to come, even managing to convince Carníheniel to send some of her spawn. When Mairon was captured by the Númenóreans, Arioch’s role as messenger became vital as he was able to move secretly between the Ringwraiths as they coordinated and maintained the vast kingdom their black master had left behind. Upon Mairon’s return and subsequent war of the last of the Free People, Arioch commanded a legion of vampires, many of his own creations, bats, and harpies. When the war was lost, though, Arioch was forced to flee alone back to the north where he slowly rebuilt his power base.

In the Third Age, Arioch maintained a distance from any of the powers that rose, preferring to keep to himself. Eventually, Arioch came upon Keziah, a vampire like himself but one that had been born a vampire rather than turned. He pledged himself to her in a terrible ceremony and vowed that when the stars and planets came round again, they would be wed. When the Witch-King rose in strength, Arioch chose to return to his side and aid him in his wars against Arnor, becoming vital in battle and in reconnaissance. When the Witch-King took the city of Minas Ithil and transformed it, he used Arioch as a herald between the still occupied fortress of Carn Dûm and Minas Morgul, acquainting himself with the two elven sorceresses he left in charge. He maintains nests near both cities, decadent manses hidden in rock and shadow. He has few avowed enemies, they’re all dead, and few allies, finding them all too boring. He does, however, have a great ambition: to find, subjugate, and rule all the remaining vampires in Middle-Earth, and he will do anything to achieve that goal.

Ñarmotar Mórohtelë
Ñarmotar’s Playlist

Ñarmotar is the eldest, and only son, of Penlod, lord of the Gondothlim Houses of the Pillar and the Tower of Snow, and Lirsinry, queen of the Mablui Avari. He was born into privilege within the Echoriad, being the son of two noble classes, and rose through the ranks of the Gondothlim people. He devoted himself in his early years to scholarly pursuits such as anthropology, linguistics, geology, geography, and natural history. Within some of the tunnels of the Encircling Mountains he found evidence that a race of elves, separate from the Gondolindrim and the Mablui, lived here in the long ages past and possibly mingled with the petty dwarves. The theory was not a popular one amongst the more conservative members of Turgon’s court, but he was encouraged by his mother and father to continue his pursuits no matter what. Despite numerous setbacks, both natural and contrived, Ñarmotar and his teams were able to delve deep into the past. In fact, the young lord was on the brink of starting his Anthropological Society when Battle of Unnumbered Tears was fought. The walls of the world began to close in on him as paranoia and secrecy became more and more imperative. Akorlin, the next oldest sibling, and he would often sneak out of the city itself and spend days and weeks in the countryside within the mountains, doing their best to forget the more and more draconian laws being passed by their king. Their bond was close, it was rumor that when Penlod and Lirsinry abdicated their respective thrones, the siblings would rule jointly rather than Ñarmotar alone. Despite courting several people throughout their years, neither of the siblings married, preferring their work and their freedom to emotional attachments.

Everything changed at the Fall of Gondolin. Akorlin was outside the city when the attacks began, having snuck out the night before to begin looking for a way out of the mountains. Ñarmotar was within the city, reading a presentation to the king for the funding of the Anthropological Society. They managed to survive, rallying the remnants of their people to escape the battle when it was clear there was no victory for the elves. Their father was slain inside the city walls, surrounded by so many dead foes that he died standing. Their mother died saving their people as well when, outside the city, one of the dragons of Morgoth caught sight of them and began to give chase. The Queen of Mablui died as she had lived, fighting for her people. She slew the dragon, but died within the jaws of the monster. Ñarmotar, Akorlin, and their youngest sister Solenzara, were left alone, unprepared, and with a nation of people to look after. Instead of following the rest of the survivors of the city’s destruction, the Mablui and the Houses of Penlod struck out on their own, moving as refugees through a violently changing landscape. No forest, cavern, no hill could they call their own though. They were left wondering until the advent of the Second Age.

After the sinking of Beleriand, Ñarmotar and his people found the caverns of Bar-in-Gonagwelu in the Ered Luin and there rebuilt their kingdom. They prospered there, but the land was not without hardship. Akorlin left the city, claiming that she had no place there and must find her home in the wide world beyond. Despite this loss, Ñarmotar was able to help his people prosper, finally managing to create his Anthropological Society. He and his people became known for their insight and wisdom in the realms of natural philosophy, outstripping places like Lindon and Imladris for practical knowledge and application. They largely kept out of the wars with Sauron, preferring to become isolationists to protect themselves. Initially, they traded with Númenor, both kingdoms benefitting from the partnership. But when the men of Westernesse began to seek conquest over wisdom the relationship faulted and Bar-in-Gonagwelu closed its doors to the island nation. After the Akallabêth, Ñarmotar took in survivors and assisted in the founding of Arnor. It was this partnership that led him to make the disastrous choice to fight in the Last Alliance. Outmatched and surrounded in the battle, the forces of Bar-on-Gonagwelu were nearly completely destroyed.

In the Third Age, Ñarmotar stepped down as the king of his people and installed a council to rule in his stead. He fell into a deep depression, believing that he had failed his people by leading them to war. He vowed to do whatever he must to make sure his people survived. The decision led to conflict and tensions with other elven kingdoms because the council and Ñarmotar often refused to send aid in wars and denounced the White Council as “a circle jerk of pseudo-intellectuals”. Ñarmotar also employed Finnbarr Galedeep, a fellow elf of natural philosophy, as a privateer to protect the oceanic borders of his realm and hunt down any whalers with impunity regardless of whose flag they sailed under or what kings they were bedding.

Slowly, the Mablui king reasserted himself and began to open his kingdom back up to the rest of the world. He sponsored a young Lindondrim woman named Yoshiyo to join the society he created in hopes that others like her, both elven and mortal would swell its dusty ranks. He also sent messengers to the outlying villages and townships of the Ered Luin, offering his protection in exchange for the exchange of information and the governance of the wild lands between the cities. Many turned him down initially, preferring their separatist freedoms. However, the goblins of the mountains became active again, forcing some to look toward the Mablui lord as a source of protection.

His relationship with his family deteriorated overtime. Despite being warned not to follow her or try to find her, Ñarmotar never stopped looking for Akorlin, hoping that she would see the error of her ways in leaving and return home with him. This led to an antagonistic relationship between the two, as Akorlin had found a home of her own that she refused to leave, no matter what her brother did. His younger sibling, Solenzara attempted to leave as well, to search for her missing daughter, but found herself unable to leave. Eventually she too escaped the city and fled to Túrindipië, the Wildberry Forest, to begin searching for her daughter once more.

Ñarmotar is complicated man with as many faults, bad habits, and wrong ideas as he has virtues, good habits, and insights.

Ñarmotar is going to be an interesting case, a much greyer character than I've done thus far, not a bad guy, not always a good guy. He should be interesting to write, hopefully he's just as interesting to read!

In the meantime...

Patsimiel Yoshiyo
Yoshiyo’s Playlist

Patsimiel Yoshiyo, typically just called Yoshiyo, was the the daughter of a weaver and a tollgate keeper. Her parents were from Lindon, born after the re-emergence of Sauron under the guise of the Necromancer in the middle Third Age. Yoshiyo is quite young in the eyes of the Eldar, not yet past her fourth century. She has spent nearly her entire life in Lindon, more accurately, Yoshiyo has spent most of her time in the libraries of Lindon. From a very early age Yoshiyo was a voracious leaner and avid reader. She devoured book after book on hundreds of subjects. Her parents, while not wealthy by any measure, managed to acquire her tutors, books, and schooling to satisfy their daughter’s appetite. Despite Yoshiyo’s love of learning, she had great difficulty in finding her specialty which resulting in her losing out on several opportunities to study at universities or on behalf of several of the guilds throughout Lindon.

In what could only be called a meet cute, Yoshiyo met Milarcia whilst out people watching and sketching. Soon, the pair began to court. Yoshiyo believed she had found her muse and tried to enter the art guild. This ended in failure, however, when the guildmasters found her sculpting techniques derivative and formulaic. Yoshiyo was discouraged but refused to stop trying to find where she fit in.

A chance encounter with Ñarmotar, king of Bar-in-Gonagwelu and head of the Guild of Anthropology, on one of his rare excursions outside his realm led to Yoshiyo's apprenticeship within the Guild after she impressed the king with her knowledge of linguistics and ancient writing forms. He sponsored her entry, the first of anyone outside Bar-in-Gonagwelu.

She spent more and more time in the libraries of Lindon after this, so much so that she began to consider Nyárener the scribe as a second father, who often made sure that Yoshiyo was taking care of herself. Sadly, her devotion to studying and research took on a toll on her relationship with Milarcia who felt like she was being ignored more and more once Yoshiyo had given up pursuing the life of an artist and poet. Eventually, she left Yoshiyo, deciding it was best for her in the end. Yoshiyo was devastated and, despite still attempting to present a thesis to the guildmasters, ended up putting herself in harms way by refusing to eat or sleep. It took the combined will of her parents and Nyárener to pull her out of the manic state she found herself in.

She decided to take a sabbatical from study for a time and travel. She visited the Shire where she was exposed to the Hobbit way of life (being very, very fascinating by the food and the language), after the Shire, she traveled south to Dunland were she learned all she could from the Dunlendings and the language they spoke. Finally, she arrived in Rohan at Mettarë and attended a feast where she encountered her old friend Erniel as well as a new acquaintance, Lailyn. After a bit of a mixup regarding family units the two became friends. Later, she received word that a ruin had been found not far from where she was. She raced back to Lindon and wrote a thesis based on the languages she had encountered on her trip and their potential connection. She was accepted into the Guild at long last and was even chosen to lead the archeological expedition. She was delighted upon returning to Rohan to learn that none other than Lailyn had been chosen to lead the Rohirric side of the expedition.

Some of you might have noticed, but I have done some extra work on icons (I went down a rabbit hole and never really came back up) for certain characters and the characters that share their story but won't be getting an archive entry themselves.

Frost: Added Young Frost and Frost's persona as "the Man in Black", also added a new story arc called "A Skin for Dancing In" and added two guest posts to "A Study in Ivory"

Finnbarr: I feel like Finnbarr needs some extra explanation here. Finnbarr started off as a normal sailor type elf. I gave him tattoos and a heavily muscular appearance in the start of Numey's "L’appel du Vide" story arc but didn't think too much of it. Later, during the masque, I decided he was old enough, and had had enough stuff happen to him, that he had earned a very thick beard. Then, during Moriel's Lhûn Boat Racing, I determined he could talk to sealife. See where this is going? A heavily muscled, tattooed, bearded guy who spends most of his time in the water and talks to animals? It dawned on me after I watched the newest edition of Justice League that I had essentially created Aquaman and had to create some icons for this new discovery. Also newly added under Finnbarr is Verco, Delynna, and the mysterious, yet-to-appear Saraerys

Númenyraumion: Added Young Numey, around the time his parents abandoned him and sailed West (can't think many were too happy with them when they got there)

Fleeg: Added Fleeg the First and the yet-to-appear Fleeg the Alchemist, turning Fleeg's entry into an entry for the entire goblinoid line of Fleegs

Sarghêst & Horna: Added good boi Hoppla, not sure when or if his icon will be used much, but it's there in all the derpy glory

Foxes in the Henhouse was from the ARPYs, right? I think the entire thing is saved in the pdfs, if I'm not mistaken. Perhaps one or two posts are missing? And Plague Angel from the MT Library? I think I saw it in the archive, the pfd was from August 5th. I hope this info helps and please feel free to poke me if you need any help. *hugs*

I am a bad, bad bear! I didn't think to look at the Library because... well because it didn't occur to me even though I knew all the stuff would likely be there (again bad, bad bear).

As far as the ARPYs go I know it's there and I've talked with @Marceline about reposting it; we're just not sure where yet, as there might still be some lurking that would find some of the more interesting bits objectionable (and I don't think either of us are willing to edit or remove those parts) :smooch:

I remembered that Plague Angel was in the MT Library because of the icons! When I first read it I knew the icon was familiar from somewhere and I figured out as I've read the first post from where, so it stayed with me.

I hope you and @Marceline figure out where to post Foxes in a Henhouse, it was an interesting story to read and I loved seeing your characters genderbent for the first time  For now it's safe and sound in the ARPY pdf and shall remain safe and sound (I have another backup of all the pdfs  ).

Oh and I think Finnbar's Leave her Johnny was in Lindon RP? I'll have a looksee, because I just randomly remembered it.

Backups of backups of backups! Paranoia = smortblobs!

Leave her Johnny's first two posts were in Lindon I believe before I switched over to Mithlond. Thankfully I saved parts 1 and 3; part 2 was done on my tablet way the heck back in May so it's long gone (unless there's a miracle)

Sometime close the reappearance of the Nazgûl in the Third Age, a young Mablui elf named Ahyinde went missing from her home. Her mother, Solenzara, sister of the king of Bar-in-Gonagwelu, searched far and wide for years in the mountains of the Ered Luin, until at last the kingdom was forced to give up hope of finding the young princess.

In reality, she had been kidnapped by agents of one of the Nine (there are many differing theories as to which one of them it was because outside of the Witch-King almost nothing is known of their movements and activities) and brought to Mordor. There, in the Black Lands, experiments were performed on her and she endured hundreds of nameless tortures until finally her spirit broke. Once this was achieved, an orc with a hint of magical prowess, going by the name Krakzun was brought in the torture chamber. The pair were forced to bond if either of them were to survive. During the months, years, or decades they spent together a bond did form. They hated each other (as elves and orcs are wont to do) but came to value the skills and abilities of the other.

Finally, the finally stage of the experiments began. Of old, there were a race, or subrace, or orcs called the boldogs, orcs of supreme power, both physical and magical, but most of that species had passed into myth and legend. Hoping to curry favor with the Dark Lord, this Ringwraith hoped to recreate one. They did not use the blood of Ziltang, the progenitor of Swiltang and Yarltang, as a binding agent for the procedure. Again, there are many differing theories as to why this was. Either the boldog sire could not be found, refused to cooperate, or the Ringwraith believed he could create a race of boldogs independent of the monster. The experiment failed, predictably. Ahyinde and Krakzun both died in the process. But something was created. A nameless entity that was both Ahyinde and Krakzun at once and altogether something else. The Mablui elf changed her name, choosing the name Eldûrien, Lady of the Dark Stars as her new name. The new entity, being both people simultaneously, could only allow one of them to occupy the space the being inhabited at a time. When Krakzun was out and about, Eldûrien only existed within his mind, and when Eldûrien was out and about, Krakzun only existed in her head. They were two beings, two minds, two bodies, and two skill sets, crammed into a single, much more powerful and much more vile creation. Rather than serve their creators, the pair destroyed everything around them, cutting a swath of fire and compulsion through the southlands of Harad, eastward to Rhûn and into the far north, bend on killing or controlling anything and anyone they could.

Eventually, their search for revenge and answers led them to create a temporary and tenuous alliance with the Umbarean pirate noble, Frost. With him, they were able to search further and wider than before and do it under the cover of someone else's myriad crimes. Whilst Frost galivanted, stole, seduced, and destroyed his way from the Uttermost East to the Uttermost South, the entity was able to uncover clues. Clues that would help them find a way to destroy the Ringwraith and reverse the effects of the botched magical experimentation.

Recently, on a covert mission to break into the library of Imladris, Eldûrien met Figwit, a courtier of the Lord of Imladris. She seduced him in order to gain access to the library but instead of killing and disposing of him (as Krakzun suggested they do), she started up a relationship with him, corrupting the once dignified nobleman into a life of hedonism, excess, and pleasure. She renamed him Melarpo and suggested that they run away together. That was before the somewhat naïve elf-lord found out who she was.

Despite the ability to, Eldûrien and Krakzun both refuse to go back to Bar-in-Gonagwelu. Despite missing her family, she knows she is something more than they can handle there. Krakzun, too, has refused to go back to the land of his birth, the foreboding city of Carcosa in Rhûn. They are both homeless, angry, and murderous. While they still hate each other, their the only family they have left.

Gísli

Deep in the forests and prairies of the Wilderlands there lives the Beornings. Solidary people, they often do no intermingle with other men or, even, themselves. Gísli is one such man. Nearly his fifties, Gísli prefers spending his time in the form of the bear, the gift given to all skinchangers by the grace of Yavanna, known to them as the Lady of the Green Girdle.

He is more solitary than most, having been raised by a father and mother that did not see the point of sending their son into the wider world of humans, elves, dwarves, and orcs. They taught him all he needed to know, the ways of the forest, the ways of the mountains, and the ways of the fields. While dealing with people is inevitable sometimes, Gísli has made avoiding his brethren an art form. He was perfectly content with his life, a simple existence of hunting, fishing, foraging, and hibernating. Nothing and no one could challenge him for dominance in his chosen domain.

The day a loup garou entered into his home and began killing indiscriminately, Gísli knew his quiet life was over. Despite wanting to stay in his home and let the humans deal with the abomination, he knew it was his duty to take on the beast. Now, having entered the world of humans once more, Gísli is forced more and more to find the line between beast and man in a world getting increasingly dangerous and hostile toward his simple way of living. Monsters, men, and natural problems force him to grow and learn who he really is.

Since then, Gísli has become more and more involved (much to his horror) with the people of Yggdrasilbury and they have begun to accept him, despite knowing that he is ugard, an outsider, and a beorning. He has, on more than one occasion now, chosen the people of the town over his own people.

Osa is the best bear. That’s really all that needs to be said about her. She is a golden moon bear (a real kind of bear out in the real world) who was born in the far east of Middle-Earth but migrated to the more familiar forests of Lothlórien, Northern Mirkwood, and Fangorn after hunters and wildfires drove her from the lush temperate rainforests she had called home. Arriving in Lothlórien, Osa found that the people and elves of the region much more to her liking. They allowed her to make her home in the large mallorn trees and let her live in peace. However, as Osa began to grow up, a mischievous streak began to manifest itself. She would often wander into gardens and orchards and pilfer fruits and vegetables meant for the elves. More often than not, Osa would recruit members of her forest community (in Lothlórien, Fangorn, and Northern Mirkwood) into her capers with varying degrees of success. It was all this bad behavior that got the attention of Beorn. He caught her trying to steal his honeycakes one day and decided that enough was enough. Knowing that it would be impossible to keep her from mischief completely, he did try to find ways to curtail it or use it to create something positive, rather than chaos and uproar (the latter being the case when she stole managed to steal an entire shipment of Old Dorwinion from the Halls of Thranduil). He has allowed her to steal things, but she has to tell him about them, making sure he can keep track of where she is and what she’s doing (and hopefully shaming some of her more outrageous capers). Ostensibly, she’s “employed” at his Bar-Bearian Pub, but she often gets into more trouble there by doing nothing he tells her to do. Eyes always on the prize, Osa continues to look for the greatest caper of them all and a team to help her pull it off.

Angathfund & the Whispers
Angathfund's Playlist

Angathfund, born Sirimir, was a very minor Silvan noble in the court of Thranduil, born in the first millennium of the Third Age. He grew up idolizing and looking up to Gellam, the king’s Fool. For many years, they were friend, despite the perceived difference in nobility between the two. When the Shadow began to follow over the Greenwood, Sirimir was fearless and urged others to explore it rather than run from it. He believed, wrongly, that it was simply the course of nature, the direction the world of Arda was going. He realized he was wrong though, when he came face to face with the Necromancer. Seeing the power he could have under his tutelage, Sirimir gave himself over to the power of the Necromancer who twisted and remolded him into a weapon aimed at the heart of the Woodland Realm. He gave himself a new name: Angathfund, the Ghost of Perdition. He worked both secretly and openly, undermining the authority of the elvenking until at least, he attempted a coup against those that would not follow him into the embrace of the Shadow. He and his rebels were cast out and driven back to Dol Guldur. Nursing his wounds, both physical and emotional, Angathfund was visited by something else. A power of Loneliness entered into him. He became withdrawn, reclusive, and standoffish but seemed to have acquired a new array of powers. Still, he continued to work to further the Dark Lord’s influence in Mirkwood, as it was now called. He met with the spider descendants of Carníheniel and worked on a truce with them to populate the forest and fill it with webs and pockets of unlight. When the Necromancer was forced to flee, it was to Angathfund the forced of the Shadow looked to lead them. He did until the coming of Khamûl and his fellow Nazgûl. Still, Angathfund was considered the de facto leader of the troops, having served for nearly two thousand years. When the Nazgûl came, however, they brought with them another elf: Moriel. Immediately, Angathfund sensed she was a threat to his undisputed administration of Dol Guldur and from the outset, did everything he could to undermine her in the eyes of the Ringwraiths and the population of the Hill of Sorcery. Finally, though, their confrontation came to a head, violently.

Lews Tryfan
Lews’ Playlist

Lews' life has been a complicated one. He was born in the fertile forest lands of Dor-en-Ernil. His mother and father were trappers, woodsmen, and fishermen. He had four older siblings, two brothers and two sisters, with another sibling on the way. When he was just 10 years old he came back from an imaginative trip alone into the woods (one of his favorite pastimes) he found his family gone. The cabin which he shared with his family was deserted with no sign of what could have happened. Clothes, supplies, toys, and tools were all still exactly where they ought to have been. There was no sign of an intruder, no sign of fire or other disaster. They were simply gone. Without a trace. He spent the next several years in the cabin alone, hoping that someday, somehow his family would return to him. Finally, though, he decided it was time to discover what happened to his family, the mystery had eaten the heart out of him. He travelled north and east to Minas Tirith, thinking that was the best place to start to ask questions.

However, what he found was not answers, but more questions. He become involved in the Dunami family, a network of “family” members that stretched from Eriador to Southern Gondor and beyond. He believed them to be allies, friends in his search for his family. They were not. His wife, a rising star in the family, had him declared dead when a cargo ship he was working on sank in the Bay of Balfalas. He survived but what he found was not welcome. An assassin came after him, one that looked so remarkably like him that he thought it must be a twin or some fell magic that bewitched him. He evaded the assassin and brought down the Dumani family, the assassin’s erstwhile employers, one by one until he found out which of them had tried to have him killed: his one-time wife.

He left the city after bringing the family’s misdeeds, his wife in particular, to daylight. He took to the seas, trying to find solace in the cerulean arms of the waves. However, the pull of the mystery of his family proved to be too great and he returned to land, determined to find out what happened to his family.
