I could volunteer Zarâm for such a scheme, but I don’t want anything bad to happen to her.

ATTN ALL:

CAVALRY PATROLS ARE BEGINNING

Cavalry patrols will be held in a variety of threads from here on out. The premise is simple. The Cavalry will patrol around each chosen thread, specifically Life in the Mark, Fields and Forests of Rohan, and The Riddermarket. Patrols can also be assigned to the Cavalry Courtyard or special threads (Throne Room, Festival threads, etc) on a thread-by-thread basis. The idea is to provide a Cavalry presence for RP purposes and to keep the Cavalry active and visible between Cavalry activities.

How it will work:
1. In pairs or individually depending on the thread and situation, cavalry members will be assigned a patrol area (thread). The patrol will last for 4 weeks.
2. Patrol Locations and examples - Life in the Mark: Residential areas of Edoras. The Riddermarket: this one is obvious. Fields and Forests of Rohan: the plains of Rohan. Cavalry Courtyard: walking the walls of the Courtyard or standing guard at the gates.
3. Each Cavalry member on patrol will be expected to make ONE post a week over the course of the patrol.
4. Patrols will rotate through all Cavalry members, and may not be in every thread each time. Except in special circumstances and with agreement of those involved, the marshals will do our best to make sure nobody will have to do multiple patrols in a row. Everyone will get a break between patrols. This includes those with NPCs.
5. Cavalry members may interact with various storylines in different threads if warranted - for example in LitM if someone is skulking around a residential district in Edoras and that's where the Cavalry is Patrolling, then the Cavalry can reasonably stop and question them. This should only be done if it is something the Cavalry would reasonably get involved in, and should not take over a storyline unless it is agreed upon with those involved.
6. Marshals may present the patrol with situations to interact with (a thief, suspicious persons seen near farms, etc) or a patrol may be sent out based on a specific report given to the marshals.
7. If you are not able to participate in a patrol that has been assigned, as usual contact the marshals so replacement can be arranged.

Now, here's the thing - I know school is starting, work is starting again for some, and RL is beginning to go back to normal or get busy. So, I need everyone to let me know if they will NOT be available in the next two months and would prefer not to take part in patrols. Things will start small - this month will just be the Riddermarket - so only 2-4 people per month for now. Then we'll expand if things warrant it.

So, is anyone NOT AVAILABLE? in the next 2 months and would prefer not to be on patrol?

@Shivased Sounds exciting! I am available (my free time is getting a bit more limited, but Plaza is my priority “fun thing” right now), though @Allacan ob Burzum and I have a bit of a storyline planned and have been waiting for the next Riddermarket thread to do it, which might affect our IC availability for patrols.

Taeth has a lot of IC stuff on her plate on the moment, both in and out of Cav, so I'd prefer not to do patrols as her. If needed, I can do patrol as my secondary character, Sighard. He deserves some 'screentime' by this point anyway, LOL. However, if others are available, please put them first on the list.

@Gwai I've been trying to come up with an answer to that for my shop as well, and all I can think is come up with an assistant or apprentice that can help, NPC or actual plaza member. That's what I'm going to do. That way we can patrol and still handle our shop.

@Taethowen No Taeth, yes for Sighard if needed. Check

@Dimcairien Luiniel I can leave you off for this Riddermarket so you can do your storyline, that's not an issue.

@Gwai I think historically when cavalry/shopkeepers were on patrol, they used to either close the shop for that thread, have NPCs take over for the day, or maybe even ask another plazaite take a turn at shop-keeping; I personally enjoy the latter because it gives people a chance to try out running a shop without committing to anything long term, and some people can have a go at making a complete pig’s ear of it.

Re patrols; I’m involved in a lot of RP currently and trying to move those stories forward, plus I want a chance to RP Arod while I have the pretty face this month. Additionally, my activity could dramatically change in the next few weeks and time to adapt would be healthy for me.

I think myself taking on patrols would be unwise right now; it’s less responsibility to suddenly go inactive when you’re drinking in a pub and aren’t supposed to be protecting citizens, and I take my cavalry duties seriously.

If I could please be excused from the patrols this month with the expectation I need to be ready to join in properly with cavalry stuff later down the line, and I will re-consider my availability next month when my holiday is done and I have returned to full time work. Please and thank you.

Dicun is available for patrols. I'm hoping if my brain knows I have to be active on the Plaza, it'll encourage the creative part of my brain to get back in gear and post more in other places :googly:

I’ve been a bit hit and miss last week (should be ok this week, demonic children allowing) but not too sure for next week onwards as that’s my back to work start. Ironically work maybe the break from the kids I need and I might be more productive - could go either way! So I guess yes for this coming month if you really need.

@Taethowen and @Éolath I hope you don’t mind that I borrowed your new horses from Lost and Found for a fun little training montage in the montage thread, I hope I didn’t butcher their characters too badly.

@Shivased @Dimcairien Luiniel @Gwai or indeed @any cavalry soldier who has a new horse that needs some training please let me know if I can reference your horses in the next montage post and ideally let me know an idea of their character and name (hint hint shameless plug for the Show Ring hint hint)

@Allacan ob Burzum I haven't figured out anything for Gefryst's personality yet. But Taeth will be taking her back to her estate soon/eventually to use as a breeding mare rather than a Cavalry horse. Once she has an actual Cavalry horse, lol.

@Allacan ob Burzum I'm still trying to figure out specifics for Sunbeorht, but he's a gentle horse with a bit of an underlying spirit. He and Éomund are close and they can usually tell when one or the other is upset. I think I showed a picture of what he looks like, but can send it to you again if that's helpful.

@Aethelu and @Amadhrill check out the Dragon Room, you guys pulled the short straw for first patrols!

In a nutshell: RP patrolling the Riddermarket. Ride around, observe people, help out with issues that arise if needed. A good place to "meet" each other might be at the Liaison Office, but it's up to you guys. The Liaison Office might even call on you to help if someone requires it, or have reports of thefts/other stuff for you, depending on if people report thngs. If you have any questions then feel free to ask here OOC, or if you have issues IC and want a marshal, Shivased will be in her shop.

@Allacan ob Burzum I don't have anything besides colour, name and the most basics - young but well trained - figured out for my new horse, so feel free to mention him, but I got nothin' to give you on him :googly:

@Aethelu and @Amadhrill - While on patrol, your characters will need to be aware of two pretty big things that happened in Edoras recently: the fires (one woman died when the fire spread to the Auld Town residential district in Edoras) and the stabbing in the Riddermarket (which happened the morning after the fires). Currently, the Cavalry is investigating all of these things (well, eventually IC-wise) but as this is @Eldrith's story that she's playing out, it will not necessarily be a major plotline in this current Riddermarket. You just simply need to be aware of these events having happened, and please make sure not to godmod @Eldrith's NPCs or story.

Okiedokie, got an odd question - when does a cav member don the green cloak - during training or after training graduation? I'm prepping Corli to present herself to the marshals to retake the oath and rejoin the cav, and i was thinking of having the cloak in her hands, not on her.

@corlisswyn My assumption would be after training graduation. So I think having the cloak in her hands rather than wearing it would be appropriate. Welcome back!

@Allacan ob Burzum Corli's going to need a new horse anyways, as the horse I do have will not be suitable for cavalry. I have nothing on him/her, not even a name or breed.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is this about a cloak? Are there more graduation/initiation things I should be aware of?

@Dimcairien Luiniel the classic green cloak of a cavalry member, I figured it would be one of those things that would be issued at some point so that its not just being worn by any person willy-nilly. Corli was also cav way back in the day, so I'm RPing her that she had the cloak from the first time she joined...

All right folks! Here's some overdue OOC Cavalry business to attend to...

First up - @Éolath and @Mama's Murder Muffin, we have not forgotten your requests for consideration for pæthfindian training. I just have to figure out what that training will entail. :mwahaha:

Second, we have a revised Code of Conduct to bring before you! It has dropped from a whopping 12 pages to roughly 2.5 pages. Please read and review and give us your feedback sometime in the next week-ish! Huge thank you to @Thalionwen Hunigfolm for helping to condense the initial draft. :smooch:

Tagging all current Cavalry members so that you're aware of this Revised CoC:

I can sign the new Code of Conduct! Well done condensing it so much. :smooch:

One question regarding drunkeness. Does this also mean no more biletwidox and fun in the cavalry pub, once it (hopefully) is rebuilt? I sound like a regular alcoholic, but I remember those cavalry pub nights so fondly!

@Amadhrill the drunkenness part (or the “don’t be”) is specifically “on duty”, so bring on the drunken cav pub shenanigans!!!

@Amadhrill Gwai is correct that it is specifically 'on duty' drunkenness. So a Cavalry character on patrol could stop into the pub for a bite to eat and such, but should not imbibe to the point of drunkeness.

Also, because I was tired yesterday and probably doing more than I should, I forgot to mention a new addition to the Riddermarket for our first patrol unit (@Amadhrill, @Aethelu): We now have a Cavalry Liaison office within the Riddermarket, for the general populace be able to report any issues they desire Cavalry assistance with. It is civilian run, and the manager is @Lailorn. While those on patrol should not stay in this location for the duration of their assignment, please do check in there once or twice during your patrol duties in the Riddermarket.

Here's the description of the office:

The Cavalry Liaison Office

In the center of the marketplace is the Cavalry Liaison Office. This small building is staffed by Lailorn by request of the Cavalry Marshals, and is the first stop for citizens of Rohan who need to interact with the Cavalry. Rohir can come here to request the help of the Cavalry patrol, report illegal activity, thefts, or other crimes, ask questions about the Cavalry or leave missives and notes for the Marshals.

I've had one of those weeks where everything crashed together at the same time. I'll try and have Dicun show up in the Dragon Room to accept his patrol at the very least tonight. Thanks for the heads up on what's been going on, I've tried to keep up, but it's been a rough few weeks so I haven't been able to as much as I'd want to.

EDIT: Just re-read the Dragon Room and realised it wasn't an announcement but a notice. I'll just get him straight to the marketplace. It has seriously been a week, I can't even read properly :googly:

@Pele Alarion we're still firming up our training regimen because we technically don't have a larmægister at the moment, so it may be a day or so until one of us Marshals gets to you once Hadassa reports in at the Courtyard. It's looking like we'll be whipping up an NPC trainer, though, that all of us Marshals will share, so that whoever is available can do training as needed. Just so you know what to expect. :smooch:

@Taethowen Even though Éomund is officially part of the Cavalry, any chance he can get involved with this weapons training? He (and I as an RPer) need some help with this. @Allacan ob Burzum mentioned possibly having Grimthain do it, but I know she’s really busy with Real Life at the moment and I don’t want to add more to her plaza list at the moment.

@Dimcairien Luiniel I don't have a problem with it as long as @Pele Alarion is fine with it! The Larm will be prioritizing training with Pele/Hadassa, though, since this is for her entry into the Cavalry.

@Pele Alarion probably sooner rather than too much later for training. In the next day or two should be fine, though. :winkkiss:

@corlisswyn @Gwai @Dimcairien Luiniel @Taethowen @Shivased when I do the montage silliness with Arod I will make reference to people's horses by description then, rather than by name, and by all means you can accept or dismiss it as your own personal horse-canon however each of you wish

Re the revised Code of Conduct:-[/color] Simply put, I love it, and can 100% get behind it. I think you have done an amazing job of hitting all the pertinent points, and especially appreciate some of the extra clarifications added in.

Also, regarding the weapons training; I think Dim is wise to acknowledge that life got very busy for me recently and I won't be able to commit to Grimthain training Eomund as he/I would have liked, and in all honesty it would be a relief to have one less thing to worry about, so thanks for being flexible about that. :smooch:

And finally, because she sounds like she needs it, tackleglomp @Aethelu and hope things calm down for you soon.

And as for the Code of Conduct, I can completely get behind this edition of it. Thanks for working so hard on that document!

@Allacan ob Burzum We can also have the training between Grimthain and Éomund happen off screen via a mention in a letter. I mostly need writing practice with this sort of thing.
