I would like a hint, because I cannot think of any or the men of the Edain in the First Age who meets all these criteria so I am a bit stuck :-D

No worries, this is a very minor character.

This character's "return" was controversial, and was preceded by a hotly contested debate.

Yes, there are many Edain in the First Age that have left and returned 🤪

19. No, this character did not have any brothers.

(I might also specify that for this character's role in the story, leaving and returning are not necessarily two different things.)

20. No, this character did not die at the hands of a fellow Adan (my inner pedant insists on using the singular form of Edain :googly:).

@Drifa, that's correct! It was indeed Bereg, one of the leaders of the anti-Elvish discontent among the Edain at Estolad, who (unlike Amlach) led a contingent of his people back to Eriador.

Your turn!

2. Well, I probably am as old as time, but age is not relevant in this case.

No I wasn't sure I was allowed another question or not. If so then - is this thing related to water? If not, ignore me.

The rules says that we are not allowed after we guessed, but since we are such a small group... let's just all keep guessing!

It depends. Sometimes it is as short as an inch worm and other times, it can be 100 football fields long.

what

Is this ... actually a discrete object, or it is a class or set of objects, encompassing multiple different physical things within Middle-earth?

I've been absent from this thread largely because I have no idea how to parse answers like "some are bigger and some are smaller" in the context of a game where we're (presumably) trying to figure out what a specific item is.
