The Ringwraith Review
Hello! Life comes fast and suddenly I haven't logged on for two months. Ugh.
@Romeran, would you please grace us with a new set of questions?
1. If you had control over an element (Earth, Water, Wind, Fire) like in Avatar: The Last Airbender, which would you choose and why?
2. You can only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what are you eating?
3. You have to swap the race (e.g. elf, human, dwarf) of two characters of different races in Middle-earth, who are you swapping? (E.g. Legolas becomes a dwarf and Gimli an elf)
2. You can only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what are you eating?
3. You have to swap the race (e.g. elf, human, dwarf) of two characters of different races in Middle-earth, who are you swapping? (E.g. Legolas becomes a dwarf and Gimli an elf)
1. If you had control over an element (Earth, Water, Wind, Fire) like in Avatar: The Last Airbender, which would you choose and why? I would choose fire. I love the beauty of the terror you feel at the same time when looking at it.
2. You can only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what are you eating? po-ta- toes but with steak
3. You have to swap the race (e.g. elf, human, dwarf) of two characters of different races in Middle-earth, who are you swapping? (E.g. Legolas becomes a dwarf and Gimli an elf Boromir becomes a hobbit and Samwise becomes a Gondorian

1. If you had control over an element (Earth, Water, Wind, Fire) like in Avatar: The Last Airbender, which would you choose and why? I guess I would choose Earth and do my best to keep it fertile for the sake of the plants and trees.
2. You can only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what are you eating? Cheese Whiz on toast and pea soup.
3. You have to swap the race (e.g. elf, human, dwarf) of two characters of different races in Middle-earth, who are you swapping? (E.g. Legolas becomes a dwarf and Gimli an elf). I would make Éowyn a dwarf and Grima Wormtongue an elf.

1. If you had control over an element (Earth, Water, Wind, Fire) like in Avatar: The Last Airbender, which would you choose and why? Water. I will not elaborate further.
2. You can only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what are you eating? Buffalo Chicken sammiches with loaded tatter tots.
3. You have to swap the race (e.g. elf, human, dwarf) of two characters of different races in Middle-earth, who are you swapping? (E.g. Legolas becomes a dwarf and Gimli an elf) Eomer and Galadriel. For the.... audacity of it.

1. If you had control over an element (Earth, Water, Wind, Fire), which would you choose and why? The earth, she is all worth for it.
2. You can only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what are you eating? Me blood, I'll turn to vampire.
3. You have to swap the race (e.g. elf, human, dwarf) of two characters of different races in Middle-earth, who are you swapping? Pfft, I'll swap Gollem and Sauron for each other's identities. That would be truly interesting.

2. You can only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what are you eating? PO-TA-TOES! With some meat and veg. Could live on it for a bit.
3. You have to swap the race (e.g. elf, human, dwarf) of two characters of different races in Middle-earth, who are you swapping? (E.g. Legolas becomes a dwarf and Gimli an elf). Hmm. Gollum into wizard, and Gandalf into whatever creature Gollum is supposed to be.

1. In a cast of muppets who is the one member of the fellowship that's human? Legolas. Have you seen Janice from Electric Mayhem?
2. Which Muppet would play Pippin? I would say Lips, the trumpet player in the rock group Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. And only because he is the only golden hair muppet besides Miss Piggy.
3. Favourite non LOTR related brain itch you've been partaking in? If you mean nerve pain, I would say the big toe on my left foot has been driving me batty, tingling and aching off and on and mostly at night, gah! If you mean something annoying, why can't companies make a short 10mm interchangeable knitting needle and sell it as a single and not in some expensive set??!!

I am unsure where @Fuin Elda is hanging, but a bump might draw her attention.
The world was fair in Durin's Day.
Can we pick new questions?
And whither then? I cannot say...
Hi @Melahny_oftheWoods! Usually, it works so that the one who posted the questions gets to pick the new question poster, so you know. But it looks like the poster isn't hanging out close by, and it has been over a year, so go ahead and post some new questions.
The world was fair in Durin's Day.
How about you,@Rior Laegiel? Are you up to posting some new questions?
The world was fair in Durin's Day.
Yes @Drífa, I'll post some questions later today.
Rohirrim at heart, always.
They're all true. Especially the lies.

1. If you could take a ceature from any folklore anywhere in the world and make them a part of LotR, which creature would you choose and why?
2. If you found yourself in Middle-Earth, what skill that you have would you choose to teach one of your characters and why?
3. Tell me something you have learned so fdar this year.

1. If you could take a ceature from any folklore anywhere in the world and make them a part of LotR, which creature would you choose and why? I am unsure if Pinocchio is folklore, but I would select Jiminy Cricket as Saruman's conscience.
2. If you found yourself in Middle-Earth, what skill that you have would you choose to teach one of your characters and why? I would attempt to teach Orcs the importance of cleanliness (cleaning is my skill).
3. Tell me something you have learned so far this year. This year, I have learned how to use a hammer as an admin.

1. If you could take a creature from any folklore anywhere in the world and make them a part of LotR, which creature would you choose and why?
I would bring in the unicorn. We have the Mearas, who are similar wondrous horses, but wouldn’t they be even better if they were, you know, pointy?
2. If you found yourself in Middle-Earth, what skill that you have would you choose to teach one of your characters and why?
I would, of course, sit Aragorn down for a lecture on the tax system for the good of Gondor
3. Tell me something you have learned so far this year.
today I learned the meaning of the word “revanche”, which is sort of like revenge but usually political with the aim of recovering yourself rather than damning the other

1. If you could take a creature from any folklore anywhere in the world and make them a part of LotR, which creature would you choose and why?
Ummm a fairy? I don't recall any tiny winged "fairies" in Lord of the Rings, but maybe there is a reference to them somewhere?
2. If you found yourself in Middle-Earth, what skill that you have would you choose to teach one of your characters and why?
Teach a hobbit to sing a modern rock song lol. Bohemian Rapsody might be funny.
3. Tell me something you have learned so far this year.
That "hello" was only used as a greeting since the invention of the telephone.

1. If you could take a ceature from any folklore anywhere in the world and make them a part of LotR, which creature would you choose and why?
Pērkons (Thunder) from the Latvian folklore so that he would scare orcs, punish them and make it easier for good folks to win.
2. If you found yourself in Middle-Earth, what skill that you have would you choose to teach one of your characters and why?
Pele could use my translation/interpreting skills when tackling any tasks involving non-Gondorian people.
3. Tell me something you have learned so far this year.
Pigeons can be lovely pets.

1. What’s your favourite type of biscuit? (Cookie for my American friends)
2. If you had to have a tattoo on your body that was an advertisement what would it be and where?
3. What is a spooky piece of media that you would recommend?

Anything with chocolate in it.

An orienteering control point prism to advertise orienteering. Perhaps on my shoulder.

Dunno. Just watch some orc scenes of LOTR

Oh, how come I hadn't seen this before! Something with a hobbit not wishing to walk into Mordor perhaps...
1. What’s your favourite type of biscuit? (Cookie for my American friends)
Do Dutch stroopwafels count as cookies? Bought fresh at the market I cannot resist them!
2. If you had to have a tattoo on your body that was an advertisement what would it be and where?
Since I see my own hands all day during work (computer work), that would be the perfect spot for an advertisement to go on a holiday in the mountains. A beautiful skyline of my favorite part of the Alps on my left and right hand or wrist :-D
3. What is a spooky piece of media that you would recommend?
Spooky piece of media... er... well, some dash cam's have pretty scary material!

Hobbit since 2002, proud to have been Samwise Gamgee alongside Rosie Cotton (Brandybuck).l
1. What’s your favourite type of biscuit? Mine, I don't like biscuits.
2. If you had to have a tattoo on your body that was an advertisement what would it be and where? It would be blank and nothing to see.
3. What is a spooky piece of media that you would recommend? Watch the mini series of Rose Red, that is creepy enough to nightmares.

2. If you had to have a tattoo on your body that was an advertisement what would it be and where? Halloween Horror Nights from Universal Studios (even though I've never been to one), since I love Halloween! I would have it on my back so that the artist can be more creative (since there's more room)
3. What is a spooky piece of media that you would recommend? The original Halloween timeline, which is my personal favorite (only seen the original and the H2O timelines, haven't seen any of the newer ones yet). I watch them every year on AMC Fear Fest (at my parents' place since I don't get AMC in my current cable/internet package so I'm in the process of owning them on physical media, since who says you have to wait until Halloween to watch something scary).

1. What’s your favourite type of biscuit? (Cookie for my American friends) I love a gingersnap made with fresh ginger. I remember my grandmother had a jar full of cookies when I was young, and I always took the gingersnaps. But really, it's pretty hard not to like any cookie, in my opinion.
2. If you had to have a tattoo on your body that was an advertisement, what would it be and where? I would probably support the egg industry. I would have a chicken + grass = egg on my forearm—a brown egg with eyes.
3. What is a spooky piece of media that you would recommend? Invasion of the Body Snatchers, 1978. Dubbed a science fiction psychological horror film. The end of the movie is super creepy.

Let me see...
1) If you were in a Christmas themed pie baking contest in Mordor, what would you be baking and why?
2) What is the best advice you've ever had from a grandparent (or bonus grandparent) that you are willing to share here?
3) Which Tolkien character would you pick to be the best man or woman on your wedding day and why?

1) If you were in a Christmas themed pie baking contest in Mordor, what would you be baking and why?
Layered Man-flesh pie with Candy Cranberries:
Ingredients
1 ½ pounds of unknown meat
1 cup Onion (chopped)
1 can Tomatoes 15 Oz (diced)
1 tsp seasoning
1 can Sweet Whole Kernel Corn
5 Flour Tortilla-shaped Low Carb Man-flesh's (skinned not too thick for layering)
1 ½ cups Cheddar Cheese (low-fat shredded)
Add Candy Cranberries(for garnish)
2) What is the best advice you've ever had from a grandparent (or bonus grandparent) that you are willing to share here?
One of my grandmothers taught me how to be discreet (or sneaky, hahaha). When my parents could not afford my allowance, my grandmother would slip a bill into my hand and put her fingers to her lips, "shhhh."
3) Which Tolkien character would you pick to be the best man or woman on your wedding day and why? I suppose I would pick Tom Bombadil (in drag). He would be the life of the event in high yellow stilettos, keeping the day cheerful and bright with song and dancing.

I learned to keep my home clean from my grandma (not always succeeding in this).

Hmmm. Eowyn or Arwen or both - for their courage and all that.

1) If you were in a Christmas themed pie baking contest in Mordor, what would you be baking and why?
Apple of YOUR Eyes Pie
Filling:
4 lbs extra sour crabapples, sliced
1 lb (30-65, species dependent) eyeballs of everyone who insulted your cooking last time, diced
1 cup brown sugar
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp fine ash
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp butter
Crust:
1 enslaved hobbit who makes a good pastry

Pinned in my phone notes is the text of an email from my 7th grade English teacher--whom I kept in touch with until his passing. I believe he's the last person I ever sent a handwritten letter. "Take a walk near the ocean. Watch the stars until dawn. Take frequent runs. Study in between these things."

Heheh, thanks @Eamila Bolger. I thought he was fitting  Now, let me think...
1. What is your favorite thing to do in the snow?
2. What's one food (dish or ingredient) you've never had and would like to try?
3. If Tolkien characters could join the Plaza--which character would be the best RPer?

"What filled me with a barbaric joy...it was that I had been able to read the anger of the desert in the beating wings of a dragonfly."
1. What is your favorite thing to do in the snow? I really enjoy sledding, but I haven't gotten to sled in yearsssss. I suppose most recently my favorite thing would be to run through the snow with my girl Julia. She absolutely loves the snow, so when it's snowed here in Indiana we don't do "walks" anymore, but "sprints" with pee and poop stops.
2. What's one food (dish or ingredient) you've never had and would like to try? Hmm. Difficult to say. I think there's a lot of cultural dishes I haven't had a chance to try yet that I'd like to. I think right now I'd probably say any vegetarian Indian dish I haven't managed to make it through yet at my local restaurants.
3. If Tolkien characters could join the Plaza--which character would be the best RPer? Oh wow. Now THAT is the hardest questions, but I have theories. I think Boromir would make an excellent RPer, but only if he was RPing in some sort of battle or military RP. I think that Pippin and Merry would excel in our less serious RPs, maybe Inter-Kingdom Racing or something like that. But Bilbo would probably be one of our best ones.

1. What is your favourite thing to do in the snow? Hmm, creation of snowballs.
2. What's one food (dish or ingredient) you've never had and would like to try? I wouldn't know.
3. If Tolkien characters could join the Plaza--which character would be the best RPer? I think Mithrandir aka Gandalf.

Find me stuff in Gondolin.

1. What is your favorite thing to do in the snow?
I loved skiing back in the days when we didn't have kids yet. But most of all: just walking in a winter wonderland - the sound snow makes under your shoes is magical - especially in nature. It's magic. Everything sounds different, smells different, looks different... I love it.
2. What's one food (dish or ingredient) you've never had and would like to try?
Hm... there's a few I haven't had yet but wouldn't want to either, like steak and kidney pie or any organ meat. I haven't eaten a real Russian Borsjt yet and I would love to. It's a soup with beef and beet and cream among other things and I've had a version of it here in the Netherlands but I'd like to have a bowl of Borsjt from a real Russian grandmother using her family recipe.
3. If Tolkien characters could join the Plaza--which character would be the best RPer?
I think Eowyn would be pretty good, seeing as she already knows what it's like to feel like you want to be somebody else. She has also had quite a lot of time to think of plenty of story lines, while being at home wishing to se somewhere else. I think I wouldn't be able to keep up with all her stories!

Hobbit since 2002, proud to have been Samwise Gamgee alongside Rosie Cotton (Brandybuck).l
1. What is your favorite thing to do in the snow? Snow is amazing! So everything - skiing, walking, running, snowball fights, making snowmen, or even just rolling around in it.
2. What's one food (dish or ingredient) you've never had and would like to try? I probably wouldn't mind trying various sweet things - haven't travelled for a while, so it's been a lot of Latvian food with slight variations.
3. If Tolkien characters could join the Plaza--which character would be the best RPer? Denethor might be good - I bet he would write excellent grumpy and ominous RP posts, or maybe take on GMing some RP of protecting Gondor. Or looking in a palantir.

1. My favourite thing to do in the snow (especially when it is snowing) is walking.
2. Hmm, I have never had baked Alaska. I would love to try it. Would you?
3. I am pretty sure Saruman would be excellent, having so many character traits to RP with.
Hi @Aerlinn! If you have a mo, who should be our new questioner?

The world was fair in Durin's Day.
It appears Linny is busy.
Hi @Pele Alarion! Do you have a trio of questions to present that would stimulate our minds?

Well, all right. Let's see what I can come up with.
1. What strategy would Mordor use to develop its tourism industry (or lure in innocent victims, I guess)?
2. Hope is a word Tolkien has used plentifully in the LOTR. Have you ever thought of it; if so, what implications does it have in your own life, how you view our world, etc.?
3. Which is one place you have visited and would like to visit again - and why would you recommend visiting it to the rest of us?

1. What strategy would Mordor use to develop its tourism industry (or lure in innocent victims, I guess)? Swing in the trees.
2. Hope is a word Tolkien has used plentifully in the LOTR. Have you ever thought of it; if so, what implications does it have in your own life, how you view our world, etc.? No, I never thought of it, or noticed it as part of the story. Not much really in my personal life, still unchanged. View our world? I rather forget about it.
3. Which is one place you have visited and would like to visit again - and why would you recommend visiting it to the rest of us? I have seen Holland, Germany, Britain and Scandinavia. Would I like to see it back? I don't know, society of back then isn't it anymore and most people I knew, are dead by now.

Thank you for taking over @Pele Alarion! March and April were really...something.
1. What strategy would Mordor use to develop its tourism industry (or lure in innocent victims, I guess)? "Experience Mordor from a Oliphant's-eye view! Stomp through the Black Gate, traverse the ridges of the Ephel Dúath, race across vast reaches of Gorgoroth, and bask in the unworldly fires of Mount Doom--all without getting your feet ashy--on our luxury Oliphant Ride Safari. Reclining couches, meals, lodging, and full-time security included. Transportation to the meeting point not included. Travel insurance available exclusively from Orodruin Oliphant Oddventures Co.
2. Hope is a word Tolkien has used plentifully in the LOTR. Have you ever thought of it; if so, what implications does it have in your own life, how you view our world, etc.? It's probably not 100% linguistically accurate, but I remember being struck in middle school Spanish that "to hope" and "to wait" were the same word--that hope is a quiet thing that does not have to be particularly optimistic or mean that you are constantly wishing for something--it's just the willingness to wait. As for Tolkien? That must be a long answer, but--"Now when first Vingilot was set to sail in the seas of heaven, it rose unlooked for, glittering and bright; and the people of Middle-earth beheld it from afar and wondered, and they took it for a sign, and called it Gil-Estel, the Star of High Hope."
3. Which is one place you have visited and would like to visit again - and why would you recommend visiting it to the rest of us? I recently went for just one (rainy) day to Kanazawa, Japan and have been thinking about it ever since. The most beautiful garden I've seen in my life (Kenroku-en), countless artisan crafts, and a library that's such a perfect combination of elegant and cozy that I'm considering moving.

"What filled me with a barbaric joy...it was that I had been able to read the anger of the desert in the beating wings of a dragonfly."
1. What strategy would Mordor use to develop its tourism industry (or lure in innocent victims, I guess)?
Lava surfing? Something similar to Ice Cross Downhill. An extreme sport that even the Elves may enjoy. And the tourism industry could lure Hobbits with incentives like all you can eat as lava board inspectors. A win-win situation for both Hobbits and hungry Mordor inhabitants.
2. Hope is a word Tolkien has used plentifully in the LOTR. Have you ever thought of it; if so, what implications does it have in your own life, how you view our world, etc.?
I hope that my sons are not alone when they reach my age. Our world has changed. Before, there were larger families (there may still be large families in some parts of the world, but I am unaware of them), but not so many now. I have my sister, brother, mother, sons, spouse, etc. When my sons are my age, they may only have their spouses, as they both have no children.
3. Which is one place you have visited and would like to visit again - and why would you recommend visiting it to the rest of us? Well, I am not a world traveller, but one place I would like to explore again is a secluded cascade thoroughfare that ran off the lake, where I spent most of my childhood summer vacations. I brought my sons to explore it a few times. Just an awesome trek on the wild side (water, rocks, cliffs and wilderness) of nature.
