Summer Festival Planning

Yay for a Summer Festival!

So, the plan is to have a Summer Festival. Nothing big, just a couple threads/games and maybe a General RP thread with food and whatnot. What threads and how many will be decided here. It's been chatted about in the Golden Hall so far, but I wanted to get everything in one thread.

It was suggested we run this around the end of June to coincide with Midsummer's Eve on June 24th. That's a pretty easy goal date, so that's kinda what we're aiming for.

Scavenger Hunt (through the Riddermarket)
Tournament
General RP with maypole, food, etc.

What we need is 2-3 threads/games people can run, and people to run them. If you have any other ideas, post them here! If you are willing to run threads, let me know and indicate what thread/game you want to run! In a week or 2 we will have a vote on all the suggestions and finalize what will be run, in time for Midsummer's Eve!

@Gwai Sounds wonderful! What stuff I have from when the second round will definitely have to be tweaked for a more (presumably) inter-kingdom competition, but I think we can make it work! I’ve definitely got a tournament thread sorted and I’m ironing out the rules so they make sense. I could probably use an assistant to help me keep a track of the thread in case it proves popular and post people’s dice rolls/results if I can’t make it, but hopefully it won’t be too much effort.

@Elarith careful with the use of "Rusty", you'll be co-opted onto the Tub Race Committee before you can say: "AAARGH!"

Who is running The Badger Hunt? It was one of the first threads I took part in, and it was absolutely mad.

In looking for something else for a blast from the past I came across this. I am not sure if I am utterly delighted that I have the memory or utterly embarrassed at the graphic quality! This was an original Festival Plaza Menu, and considering the fact that it was labeled 'festivalmenu' and I only did festivals in Rohan...and I believe it's when @Eamila Bolger started supplying me.. it must be about 17 years old, I think...

@Shivased, I don't know what your plans are as far as Plaza-wide promotion for the Festival goes, but if you don't have any in place already, I could put together a graphic and advertise in the Inter-Kingdom and Announcements threads and in Durin's Directory. I figure the more cross-Kingdom involvement we get, the more fun the Festival will be

Do we have an idea of how long in real-life time we're aiming for the Summer Festival to last? A week-ish? Two weeks? I think the rounds for Miss Meduseld will need to have time limits on them, but I think it would be nice for it to be spread out over the Festival vs. finishing up before everything else does (or, you know, finishing up way after the Festival has actually ended. )

Ok, here's what we have so far:

Miss Meduseld - Taethowen and Gwai
Bathtub Races - Aodh (Rustbucket) and Elarith
Tournament - Allacan and
Riddermarket Scavenger Hunt - Thalionwen and Aethelu
Badger Chase - Shivased

General RP/Food - Eldrith and Bereth
Promotion and announcement - Thalionwen

Do we want to run ALL of these? Or pick 3 and the general RP thread?

I can take on the Badger Chase. I remember participating, but never have run it. Thanks to the wayback machine, I should be good :smiley8:

@Taethowen I was thinking 2 weeks for the festival. That's about what I remember it lasting. Longer at times in the General RP thread if we felt like it, but games tended to go about 2 weeks.

Also, thinking it could start around June 20? That puts Midsummer's Eve right in the middle of the festival and gives us about 2 weeks to make final decisions on threads and get them ready. Thoughts?

2 weeks for games is good. We can definitely make that work for Miss Meduseld.

So for the QUANTITY of events, my thought is that at least for the scavenger hunt, it could probably be run via the general RP thread and the Riddermarket thread (and just have a special Riddermarket session around the same time as the festival). I think the scavenger hunt especially could add to the atmosphere in the general RP thread.

Also, as far as I've heard, there's no other kingdom planning a big event like this so soon. So I think if we have plenty of things for people to do we could really draw in the IK crowd. :)

Yeah, I'm with @Taethowen on this, I wonder if there's a way to combine General RP/Food with the Riddermarket and then the scavenger hunt could run in and amongst all of that? Like if we had a big Fairgrounds thread that incorporates the physical space of the Riddermarket as well as the center of Edoras, within which all of the non-games festival RPing could take place?

(There's already been a fair bit of out of kingdom interest from me bringing it up in Discord, so I'm hopeful we'll have a lot of involvement and the whole thing will end up being a smashing success :smiley8:. Also, I should be able to do up the banner and started announcing tomorrow, I'd wanted to get to it tonight but the day took a turn)

Though I whole-heartedly support a summer festival and was all about it in the OOC thread where it was brought up, I feel bad I have not volunteered. I'm not up for running anything at this stage, but I will contribute by participating!

If there are any smaller tasks I can help with, do let me know. And thanks everyone for your contributions so far! I can take on my old mantle of Confetti Queen (gosh its been ages) and cheer you all on... :smiley8:

I like the idea of the scavenger hunt in with the general RP thread, I think that could work nicely.

20th looks like a good start date too, hits the weekend and people who have free time then.

I like the idea too of combining the scavenger hunt with general RP, that's kinda how I envisioned it at the start. Making the general RP one big fairgrounds would be great. (Maybe have it set up just outside the gates of the Riddermarket or something) And if there is enough interest, I'm all for running all the threads!

I tried to find an old Tub Race thread to refresh my memory of how it works but couldn’t find one on the WayBack Machine. Don’t suppose anyone has stumbled across a link? (I have biscuits... )

@Elarith I haven't been able to find a link that works. But basically we RP hurtling down a river in whatever we can make a boat out of, and are given dice rolls (I think?) and prompts of obstacles and whatnot. If I remember correct (@Aodh Hammerhelm will correct me if I'm wrong) we start with a certain number of HP and when we get to zero we sink :smiley8:

Yes, Shiva is right --- Dice Rolls - Scenarios --- Hit Points minus damage. I think there was a section were the Racers could net ducks and won back HIT POINTS. I have 2 saves of the Race on one of my PCs. Will track it down and EMail to you.

Riddermarket Shop Owners!

Are you interested in participating in the Summer Festival's RIDDERMARKET SCAVENGER HUNT? If so, could you please fill out the Google form linked to below? If not, could I please please please request that you fill out the form anyway just to let me know that you won't be participating? The scavenger hunt will run for at least one week, but likely the full 2 week duration of the festival if we have good participation from shop owners. It will require shopkeepers to roleplay with each scavenger hunt participant who enters their store (if you have multiple hunters in store at a time, you can of course respond to them as a group). As a Riddermarket shop owner, you may choose a SECRET ITEM to bestow upon scavenger hunters who arrive in your shop, but I prefer that it be the same item given to each hunter, so I don't have a million different objects to keep track of on the scoring end. The scavenger hunt will NOT be a timed activity, so your response times won't impact a hunter's chances of winning. Instead, everyone who successfully completes the hunt will be entered in a winner's draw at the end, for the chance to be awarded a SUPER SPECIAL PRIZE that I have not come up with yet
