Gladhron
On his way to Arnyn's house, Fifth Circle
December 30th, evening

It was obvious she was surprised to see him, and he couldn't blame her for that. It did seem a bit odd, he figured, to do this. But he wanted to walk with her to the theater. Especially after that... collapsing thing. So, that was indeed a valid excuse. Right?

But now, as he held his arm out, Gladhron started to second-guess the decision to offer his arm to her. She'd had no problem taking it yesterday. But now she was staring at his arm. The moment stretched on, and Gladhron was started to feel a bit like an idiot for holding it out like that, and wondered if he might as well put his arm down. When she declared that she was feeling better, he offered a tiny smile, while questioning whether to lower his arm or not. He was just thinking that yeah, he probably looked stupid standing there like this, and was going to drop his arm, when she asked if he was worried she'd fall again, and then took hold of his arm.

Inwardly, he breathed a sigh of relief and had to fight to keep his face from reflecting that feeling. He gave a small smile in reply to her question. "Maybe... just a bit." He admitted. "But, it's also cold, and I wouldn't want you to slip on ice or anything," he added, with a little shrug and smile. "I mean, it'd be a shame to get to the theater with mud of your dress or something..." He wasn't sure if there was actually any mud or ice, but it did offer a slightly better excuse for him to escort her.

When she asked about whether they'd be passing by Isys' house, he paused to think about that, then shook his head. "Not unless you want to?" He answered, which was his way of offering to go by there if that was what she wanted. "We'll come to the theater and stuff like that before we'd reach the residential areas." He added, in explanation. It made sense, of course, to put the houses and things further from the areas with the most traffic, and the businesses and such closer to it. "And I told Gwestion and the others that I'd meet them there."

Ava

Dec 30, evening

She had let Tercen choose what she would wear, and had kept her hair loose down her back. While she could have added some accessories to dress her hair up a little, she just preferred having it like this.

Since she had wanted to get to the theater before everyone else, Ava made sure that they left in time to do just that. And she was glad she did, for there was a line to get tickets and she frowned slightly as she fought against the feeling of impatience. If she had been in Umbar, there was a very good chance that someone in charge would have recognized her and let her move to the front of the line to ensure that she did not have to wait. But obviously, she didn't want to make it known who she was, here. And she was trying to do things the Gondor way. So, they would simply wait.

While she waited, she leaned happily against Tercen's side and wound an arm around his middle. The line didn't take as long as she had feared, thankfully, since the person selling tickets was quick enough. And before long, Ava had stepped up to take care of the matter, explaining that she would like a box seating area, large enough to comfortably hold ten people, and checked to make sure about whether anyone joining her would need to also buy tickets. As expected, they would not. She nodded in satisfaction and thanked the ticket seller. She was only expecting about seven, but she figured the extra room would be preferable. Once that was secured, the only thing left to do was to watch for the others to begin arriving, so they could make sure they didn't end up buying tickets unnecessarily.

"The others should be arriving soon," She commented as she resumed her previous stance, now waiting at a convenient spot not too far from the door, where they would see when the other members of the group arrived. She was curious to meet the rest of the friends that were with Gladhron and Gwestion, and wondered what they were like.

Arnyn
Fifth Circle - On her way to the White Tree Theatre
December 30th, evening

Slip on ice. Mud on her dress. Seems like there were plenty of reasons, to Gladhron's mind, to come down a circle and escort her. Narrowing her eyes briefly in thought, Arnyn just nodded. Before soon giving a little shake of her head at his question. "No, no. If you were meeting them at the theatre anyway, we should go right there. We still need tickets, after all. I wouldn't want to be late."

As they walked, Arnyn couldn't help but think back to what Gladhron and his brother had agreed to earlier that day in headquarters. And why Gladhron had probably agreed to: to make up for what he had said the night before, at the tavern. Holding back a sigh, Arnyn glanced at her friend. This would probably be the last time she'd see either of the brothers in a situation that wasn't related to their departure to Umbar, before they actually left for that dangerous place.
Be that as it may, she couldn't quite think of the right thing to say.

At last, she ventured the subject of the play itself. She knew which one was being put on, and since it was a classic, she could tell Gladhron a little about it. So that is what she ended up doing the rest of the way to the theatre. Arnyn let Gladhron escort her up the steps, where she needed to be more careful than normal, with a long dress rather than trousers. Once they reached the door, she let go of his arm. And once they were inside, she moved a bit to the side, to see how long the line was. It wasn't too bad, all things considered. And then she saw Tercen and Ava.

Ava, with her arm around Tercen and happily leaning into him. Tercen, looking like a content, overly large puppy. Arnyn frowned. Those two had left headquarters in a much less happy mood than she was seeing them now. In fact, the only way Arnyn saw for them both to be this way around each other... Arnyn sighed. And hoped she was wrong. "There," she told Gladhron, indicating Ava and Tercen with a nod. "They seem to have worked it out," she added as well, her tone neutral.

He was thoroughly enjoying the way she was leaning into him, and had one arm around him. In turn, he held her loosely with one arm, as well. It felt so easy. So unforced, and not at all awkward. And yet, Ava was loaded beyond probably his ability of comprehension...

"There's Arnyn and Gladhron," he told Ava, once he had spotted them. "Maybe we should check in our coats," he suggested. "I can do that. As long as I know where to find you, after?"

As they walked, Gladhron listened with a little smile as she told him about the play. "Sounds interesting," He commented. After making sure she got up the steps without any trouble, he opened the door for her. He was smiling, even though she let go of his arm once they passed through the door.

Almost immediately, she directed his attention toward Tercen and Ava, who seemed quite happy standing there waiting. Gladhron was glad to see they were not still upset with each other, although he was a little concerned about the reason for why they were not still upset. He turned to Arnyn. "Can I get your coat?" He asked, since it looked like Tercen was doing the same. Perhaps he might get a chance to ask him a bit, while they were dealing with the coats.

Turning, Ava gave a nod of acknowledgement to Arnyn and Gladhron when Tercen called her attention to them. "Mm, and no sign of the others yet." She mentioned thoughtfully. Arnyn and Gladhron arriving together, without his brother and other friends? Interesting.

Then Tercen suggested checking their coats, and Ava glanced down at hers. She had almost forgotten she was still wearing it. She'd unbuttoned it at some point while standing in line, so all she had to do was slip her arms of out it and let him take it. With a little smile, she nodded at his suggestion. She gave a little grin at his comment about knowing where to find her. "Don't worry, I'll be waiting right here." She assured him, figuring there was no point in moving from this spot until they were all gathered.

Perhaps Arnyn would come and join her. She knew, of course, that she would have to tell her at some point that Tercen had won her over to letting him come... but she hoped to avoid it for this evening. Let this just be an evening of liesure and enjoyment, with no serious stuff to worry about. Even from here, she thought Arnyn looked tired enough already.

Dulinneth, Eryn Raedor & Brooke
Dec 24, afternoon
2nd level, inside the dress shop

Brooke smiled slightly upon hearing that Gaer had two names. "That's nice. 'Seaflower' is pretty." She hesitated. "I.. sort of do, but not officially, you know..?" She mentioned timidly. "I mean... my mother called me by a name in elvish, but with her gone, no one else calls me that except Fuin." She explained, shrugging as she glanced down at her hands.

Eryn considered the comment about Minas Tirith having the most Sindarin speakers. "I haven't noticed all that many, at least, I haven't encountered all that many folks who only speak Sindarin." She shrugged. "The school here teaches it. I haven't had a chance to learn that much, but I am trying to learn some." She mentioned, hoping perhaps to get better at it. Especially if she had a few friends who knew the language, too.

Brooke smiled at that. "Aunt Seri has been learning a bit of it, too, and Aislin." She said, in hopes that Eryn wouldn't feel left out about that. "I'm.. not really the best teacher at it, though. I'm still a bit rusty.." She mentioned, thinking it would be better if there was someone besides her to help them learn. She brightened a bit though, when Gaer spoke of Quenya. "Yes, the high elvish. I've never been able to learn it fluently, but I can manage a few phrases, and I've come across a few things in writing, and it's fun to try and translate it." She got a bit more excited. "I found an entire book of history in the library here, written in ancient Quenya." She told them, her eyes gleaming with excitement. "I'm... not sure if I'll actually be able to decipher it, but it's really interesting to try."

"History?" Eryn shook her head slightly in amusement. "I'll leave that sort of thing to you, Brooke." She laughed. "I'd rather ride my horse or shoot at stuff, personally."

Brooke shrugged slightly, returning her gaze to her lap. "Well, it is interesting." She looked up at Gaer when she spoke a little more about her castle, and blinked in surprise. "Azrubel." She repeated. "I think... that might be the name of the people... I mean, Domanol's relatives, that is. Seri said their house is somewhere in the higher levels of the city, I'm told." She mentioned. "At least, I'm sure I've heard that name somewhere..." She mentioned, trying to think if that was it.

"That makes sense," Eryn agreed. "Ranger Isys Azrubel is related to Nal, though I'm not certain how exactly." She said. "I've heard about her enough, cause he does a lot of training with her and all. And she does have a house up on the fifth. And Domanol is Nal's uncle, so..." She shrugged. "He's.. my best friend." She added quietly with a small smile, though things were a little weird with them, these days. Ever since the masquerade, in fact, she had been unsure quite what to say to him. Because of course, he didn't know that she had been there, much less that she was the girl he'd danced with and had then ditched when another girl came along. And that had hurt a bit... but she couldn't exactly tell him that. And even if she did, would she want him to know that it had been her? It was a very confusing matter... not to mention the fact that she had met this Lucion fellow, and she didn't even know yet how she felt about him.

While Eryn was pondering her relationship with Nal, Gaer was asking about whether Brooke had ever been to see one of the plays. "A few times," She nodded. "Dare, that's his name, is a pretty good actor, I think." She mentioned. "It's a smallish acting troup, but they do good work, even if they don't have a lot of members. And a somewhat small budget." She paused, then added, "But they don't have any ballerinas," She added with a little laugh.

Returning to the topic of Wist, Eryn smiled and put thoughts of Nal in the back of her mind. "Yes, she's very excited about the ballet thing." She said, grinning. "And she's been practicing her spinny things, and doing well at it. Apparently, she's got some audition or something, soon. I hope she'll get a part in the next ballet thing. She'd be so happy."

Brooke had not yet met Wist, so she had no comment about that. She was surprised, though, when Gaer suggested that Brooke could also attend the ballet. She opened her mouth slightly, intending to protest and offer a few excuses for why she could not come. Like, she didn't want to intrude. She didn't have the money. She didn't want to not include her sister, and not to mention Chewy... but then talk of them having an entire box killed one excuse, and then they extended the invitation to 'a friend', which meant she could bring Aislin. "Oh... I don't know," She bit her lip.

"I agree!" Linn spoke up, having just returned from her fitting, in time to hear the last bit. "You definitely should come." She grinned, resuming her seat. "We'd love to get to know you and your sister better. Please, say you'll come?"

"I.. guess I could see if Aislin would like to." Brooke gave in slightly, a little surprised they would want to invite her. "But... we don't really have a lot of spending money," She mentioned shyly. "So.. no coordinated dresses," She mumbled, as one of the shop workers came up and asked for whoever was next.

"Guess that's me," Eryn smiled as she stood up. "Let's see what I can find, ready-made." She said, knowing there wouldn't be much time for any alterations or tailoring, unless it was very minor. She set off, smiling as she went to get fitted for a dress of her own.

"That's no problem." Linn insisted. "We don't care, really." She smiled happily. "I look forward to meeting your sister!" She added, always pleased at the chance to meet new friends.

"So.. if we do, umm, where do we go? Do we meet you someplace, or..?" Brooke glanced from Linn to Gaer, unsure what the arrangements would be. She'd need to check with Seri to make sure it wouldn't conflict with anything that her aunt may have planned, of course. And Aislin, of course. She didn't know if her sister might have other plans. But she suspected she would be eager for a chance to do something new, and meet some new friends.

Arnyn | Tercen
Fifth Circle - White Tree Theatre
December 30th, evening

When Gladhron asked if he could get her coat, Arnyn raised her eyebrows slightly. "Alright," she drawled, thinking she hadn't needed any help. Nor would she have minded to do it herself. But it seemed like Gladhron was in his gentleman era, or something. It wasn't a new thing for the night - he'd been like this the evening before, as well. "Thank you," she added while taking off her coat, then handing it to him. She glimpsed Tercen's approach, her brother also holding more than one coat. Ah. Perhaps that was why.

"Hello, brother," she offered, more carefully than usual, for she was uncertain whether he would be upset with her after the meeting that morning. Part of her would not blame him, honestly. She was part of the reason why Ava would not be able to go with him to Ithilien at all, and she had advised Ava against taking him with her to Umbar. Although she had been careful to offer a balanced reply on that second matter, she was by no means sure to what extent Ava would have told Tercen about that.

As for Tercen, he had been surprised to see Gladhron and Arnyn entering the theatre without the others of Gladhron's group. He raised an eyebrow. Did Gladhron go to his sister's house, again? To escort her here? If so, surely Arnyn's pin was going to drop sooner or later? Smirking a little, he smoothly helped Ava out of her coat and draped it over his arm, alongside his own. He smiled at Ava when she told him she would wait for him there. "Alright, Starlight," he told her quietly, wearing that same smile, before he headed toward the coat checking area. Gladhron and Arnyn happened to be on his route, and since he saw no reason to avoid them, he headed striaght for them.

Upon his sister's greeting, Tercen took in her appearance. The dark circles under her eyes seemed to make them even darker than usual, but despite that, she looked lovely in her deep emerald dress with silver detailing. "Hey, sis," he replied with a gentle smile. He knew better than to ask how she was doing in front of Gladhron. Even if he were to do that, he doubted she would offer a straight answer. His attention flicked to Gladhron. "Let's go and hand in these coats," he suggested cordially, putting one hand on Gladhron's shoulder and almost immediately steering him away from Arnyn. "Ava's over there," he informed Arnyn even as he took his first step away from her.

Arnyn drew in a deep breath, and watched the two men for a moment. Then she turned toward the spot she had seen Ava earlier, and slowly made her way over there.
"Good evening." Her tone was polite - friendly, even. Despite Tercen's friendly greeting just now, she was not at all sure quite what to expect from either Ava or Tercen this evening.

White Tree Theater, Fifth Circle
December 30th, evening

He could tell she was a bit surprised, or maybe puzzled, when he offered to take her coat, but he hoped she wouldn't find it too weird. Rather, he hoped maybe she'd start to think about why he would do things like this, like Tercen had suggested she might. Once she had removed her coat, Gladhron blinked as he took in how absolutely lovely she looked, in that dress. Don't stare, he had to remind himself hastily, and instead forced himself to turn toward Tercen as his friend approached.

"Hi Tercen." He greeted him with a smile, glad for the distraction just at that moment. Before he could say much else, they were heading toward the coat check-in. Gladhron glanced back briefly, partly to get another look at Arnyn, and partly also to check whether she was still within hearing distance.

Upon nearing the coat room, Gladhron stopped Tercen. "So, what's gives?" He asked curiously. "You were kind.. dismal, last time I saw you.. and you two had been sort of.. arguing?" If that was the right word for it. "Now you look like you're on top of the world, and like nothing is wrong at all." He looked curiously at him. "You and her both, I should say. I'm guessing you worked out the problem?" He asked, raising an eyebrow inquisitively. Which made him wonder... since he had been in the room when Tercen had been asking about coming along, and it had been difficult not to overhear at least a little of their argument there outside of the captain's office.

Ava
White Tree Theater
Dec 30, evening

Ava watched Tercen walk away, smiling faintly. Her hands clasped in front of her as she glanced around at the various people passing by, feeling a sense of happiness all around as other people came in, excited about the show. It was a much different sort of energy than the people coming to watch 'entertainment' back home. She was excited about this evening, although she didn't quite know what to expect.

When Arnyn approached, Ava turned to her with a pleasant smile. "Good evening, Arnyn. How are you?" She asked. "Your dress is lovely, by the way." She really meant it, and she thought it looked nice on her, too. "Are the others here, yet?" She asked, curious. She had only met Gwestion earlier today, but she had not seen him around. And she had no idea what the other members of the group looked like, yet.

Even as she was thinking that, the door opened and she recognized Gwestion entering after three ladies. "Ah, that must be them now." She commented softly, with a nod to direct Arnyn's attention in case she hadn't noticed them. And if that was not them, then the lieutenant could correct her.

Entering the theater

Although Gladhron had left the house a bit before the rest of them, Gwestion waited and walked along with the ladies. It wasn't all that far from Lady Azrubel's house to the theater, fortunately, so they still left in plenty of time to get to the theater to get their tickets. Approaching the door, Gwestion made sure that the ladies all made it safely up the steps, then held the door for them before entering last of all.

Seri let Brooke and Aislin enter ahead of her, then paused after stepping inside and saw the line of people at the ticket counter. "Oh, there's a lot more people than I thought there'd be. I hope they haven't sold out," She mentioned with a bit of concern.

"Look, there's Cel- I mean, Arnyn." Brooke said quietly, giving a small wave toward the lieutenant, who was standing with a dark-haired lady in a pretty, black and blue dress. Brooke glanced back toward the door, half expecting Chewy to come running up to her side as he caught up to them, but she had to remind herself that he was not there, since Seri had told her it was very doubtful that the theater would let him inside. She felt bad leaving him, and she was a little uncomfortable being without him. But she did understand, reluctantly, why she could not bring him. And she knew she'd be alright without him.

After getting inside, Gwestion collected all three of the ladies' coats. "I'll join you shortly," he assured them, starting toward the coat room.

Nodding, Seri smiled and guided her nieces along with her toward where Arnyn was. Gladhron had, at least, mentioned at some point that his friend Tercen, who was Arnyn's brother, and his lady friend might be joining them this evening. So, she took a guess that this must be her. "Hello!" Seri greeted them both cheerily, with a friendly smile. "Hope we aren't too late to get good seats," She commented with a glance toward the line.

Fifth Circle - White Tree Theatre
December 30th, evening

Ava's smile was pleasant, and her greeting both polite and friendly. Based on that, and Tercen's demeanour earlier, it seemed like neither was blaiming her for much? "I am looking forward to the play," Arnyn replied, skirting the core answer to that question. "Yourself?"

"Thank you," she said in regards to the dress. "I don't believe they are. I like your dress, as well. I believe I have one very much like it, actually." Arnyn smiled faintly. "Albeit not with that colour gradient. I bet Tercen loved it, too."

As Ava directed her attention to the entrance, Arnyn turned enough to follow the other woman's gaze. Arnyn's smile grew at Brooke's wave, and she returned it without even thinking about it. "Indeed," she confirmed, unnecessarily. Once they were all standing together, Arnyn glanced at the line. "Should not be too bad," she estimated thoughtfully, before focusing on everyone there, now.

"I should make introductions," she realized. "If no one minds. Ava, meet Seri, Brooke and Aislin. I actually met Brooke years ago, in Bree, and I just learned she is related to Ms Seri, here. I met Seri at the masquerade, and she has been friends with Gladhron and Gwestion for many years now. Aislin I met a few days after the masquerade. She is Seri's niece, if I gathered and remember correctly?" Then she glanced at the other three. "Meet Ava. My brother's..." Arnyn intentionally did not finish that sentence, and slanted her head while turning back to Ava. "Well... what, exactly?" she inquired quietly.

By all appearances, Tercen excuded his usual casual confidence as he handed over Ava's coat and his own. Gladhron's question made him grin a little. "I prefer to be in a good mood," he pointed out. "Don't you?" he fired back, raising an eyebrow.

Once Gladhron had handed over the coats he'd been carrying, Tercen clapped his friend on the back. "Suppose I should thank you, in a way," he laughed. "Since it was you running your mouth that ensured I needn't say goodbye to Ava anymore." With a little smirk, he leaned in. "Thanks, buddy."

Straightening his back again, he caught Gwestion heading their way. "Looks like the rest of your group is here."

"Absolutely," Gladhron replied to the question of whether he preferred to be in a good mood, though with a bit of puzzlement audible in his voice. He turned in his and Arnyn's coats to the attendant, then turned toward Tercen as he announced that he had Gladhron to thank. He then stared at him for a few seconds with uncertainty, as the other guy went on to say that it was because of Gladhron blabbing. And then actually did thank him. "Right..." Gladhron couldn't help being a bit confused. The words he was saying almost sounded like it should be meant sarcastically, but the way he said it sounded sincere. "Umm, you're welcome?" He wasn't quite sure how to respond there...

About that time, however, Tercen called his attention toward Gwestion approaching. "So, everything's fine?" Gladhron checked, before his brother reached them. "Between us, and between you and Ava, and you and Arnyn?"

Gwestion

With a brief nod of greeting as he approached, Gwestion kept quiet so not to intrude on whatever Gladhron and Tercen were talking about. He waited until an attendant came back from putting some wraps into the coat room, then turned in his, Seri's, Brooke's, and Aislin's. Somewhat unsure whether to say anything to the other two, or if it would be rude to not at least speak to Tercen, he stood for a moment while waiting on the attendant to write out the ticket for reclaiming them when they were ready to leave.

"Yes, very much." Ava replied to Arnyn's question. She had very little idea of what to expect as far as the content of the play, but she was hoping it would be enjoyable. Everyone she had spoken to about it so far had indicated that it would be nice to watch.

When the topic turned toward the dress, and the fact that Arnyn had a similar one, Ava smiled. "Tercen mentioned that," She nodded, then her smile increased slightly when Arnyn guessed that Tercen had loved it, too. "Indeed, he did. In fact, he suggested that I wear this one tonight," She admitted.

Then the other ladies joined them, and Ava turned to greet them, smiling a little when the eldest of the group expressed concern about the line for tickets. "You needn't worry about that." She assured them, but held off from explaining the comment yet, since Arnyn had jumped into giving introductions.

Seri was curious about the comment, but she put it aside and smiled as she extended a friendly hand to the other woman. "Pleased to meet you, Ava."

Ava smiled as she shook her hand. "Likewise, Seri. And if I may say so, the colors in your dress look nice on you." She added, referring to the dark blue and pale pink of Seri's dress, which seemed to go nicely with her complexion and hair.

Seri gave a soft smile as she glanced down at the dress she was wearing. "Oh, thank you. It's borrowed, though, so not technically my dress." She explained. "But I appreciate the compliment, regardless." Seri then gave an answer for the question concerning Aislin. "Both Brooke and Aislin are my nieces, in fact." She answered with a smile toward Aislin. "Although one is more.. adopted, you might say." She explained, for Arnyn's benefit, since she had mentioned having met Brooke. And she knew from Brooke that Celume had met at least another member of Brooke's so-called family.

Ava nodded, then paused and glanced at Arnyn, at the question about her and Tercen. "I.. uh, well... That is not a question I quite expected," She admitted, finding that she didn't really know how to answer. "I don't quite know what the word is," She paused, thinking. "Date?" She ventured a guess at the best fitting word for that. "Whatever the word... we are together," She concluded with a little shrug.

Seri smiled in understanding. "I see. Well, to use the same term.. my date is going to be a bit late, but he said he will be joining me when he can." She said, quite pleased she had convinced him to come. "I suppose I ought to get a ticket for him, so his seat will be reserved," She realized.

"Oh, how nice." Ava replied, thinking it was good that she had secured a box large enough for ten. Even with the extra person, there should still be plenty of room. "Oh, that won't be necessary," She continued, hearing the concern about tickets. "I was about to say, we already have our seats reserved." She explained. "That is, if you and the others don't object to joining me in my box." She added, since she didn't actually know them until this very moment.

Brooke blinked in surprise to hear that. "One of those balcony ones?" She asked, eyes widening a little.

"That's right," Ava confirmed, smiling toward her. "I don't particularly care for the idea of sitting all scrunched up with a lot of people that I don't know and will probably never meet." She shrugged. "I realize that I haven't met any of you before, but I have met Gladhron. He's a friend of Tercen's, and of Arnyn's, and I decided that I like him as well. And so, I am extending the invitation to the rest of you since you are with him." She explained.

Gladhron's confusion was, honestly, rather enjoyable. In response to the man's question, Tercen smiled with an air of aloofness. "Ahh, well. When is everything ever fine, my friend?" Tercen moved, placing himself between Gladhron and Gwestion, and putting an arm over Gladh's shoulders while briefly putting a hand on Gwestion's.

"Looks like we'll be getting to know each other a lot better, real soon," he grinned at the younger brother, when he would inevitably focus his attention on Tercen. Then the latter flicked something off Gladhron's clothes around his chest area. "And we'll get to spend more time together than we'd first thought. Just in a very different place." He let go of Gladhron, then, too, and gestured they should all return. "Come, come. It would be bad form not to return to the ladies swiftly. And best not mention this to Arnyn just yet," he added, though he was still smiling as if he had not a care in the world. "I better be the one to tell her I'm going to Umbar with you guys."

Whistling and not waiting for an answer, he started heading back.

The amusement she felt as Ava's hesitation in response to her question, brought back some alertness. At least for a few moments. The corner of Arnyn's mouth tilted up, and she nodded at Ava's choice of term. "Adequate," she judged, concerning the term 'date'. Seri mildly surprised her by adding that her own date would be late but was planning on joining them as well. If Domanol was coming, and he was going to be arriving late... Arnyn raised an eyebrow. "Aha, wonderful. Will he be swinging in from across the stage?" she inquired of Seri, her tone serious although her expression all too clearly showed she was joking. Yet, she wouldn't actually put it past the man.

The news about the box, made Arnyn's eyebrows lift a little. If it had been anyone else, she would have insisted on paying her part. Since Ava had bought a whole house just for a 'vacation', however... "That is very generous," she said, instead. "Thank you."Arnyn glanced at Seri, to try and signal the other lady that it was more than alright to simply accept. "If Gwandhyra is going to be late, however," she added, "perhaps you should leave a message at the desk for him? So that he swings up high enough?"

Obviously, she hadn't missed that Ava acquiring a box also meant that Tercen would be much more comfortable. Arnyn wondered whether those two had spoken about Tercen's discomfort, or whether Ava had made the choice solely based on what she had heard from her. Then again, perhaps Ava had purchased a box ticket for entirely different reasons - perhaps it really was because she did not wish to be seated closely to strangers.

With great effort, Arnyn refused to show any signs of the yawn that was trying to work its way out of her throat. She couldn't wait to sit down, really.

Ilisys Azrubêl with Lotte
at home on the 5th Circle, eve of 30th December

The dancing flame had been fuelled by a sporadic storm of screwed up papers. The fresh ink that had spilled in hopes of forging a coherent message bled now slowly into charred ash. Isys watched as the corners of the littered parchment curled in the fireplace, and her heart did not warm any in the comfort of the winter burn. Lotte approached the high-backed armchair from behind, seeking to decipher from the shadows cast in what mood she might find the lady. Steady, sure as she was to do what she might, irrespective of what might be wanted .. the servant made herself known with the transfer of a glass of damson wine onto a table in her charge’s reach.

There is naught to say but silence,” the younger woman remarked, with grey eyes cast down to her hands.

They’ve all gone out to the theatre,Lotte answered the topic she she did not rightly comprehend, with another, although gently. For mention of the theatre itself .. met the telltale sight of what was turning over and over in Isys’s fingers. A certain telescope. It had been all that had been in the man’s possession when she had handed him over to the Guards, the first time. The man who had squatted for some considerable time within the Theatre’s cloisters. It did not take a wild guess to know what sort of a letter the lady had attempted to write, and apparently failed. Without comment, the elder woman took up a poker and crushed the screwed up papers so that there was no danger of them falling from the hearth to set the room ablaze. It was doubtful whether even such a peril would move the lady from her quiet reflection. “I’ll be about some hours yet if you should need me,” she could not depart without mentioning. She set toward removing the ink pot and quill, now that there was no more parchment for either to dance over, and the younger woman glanced up from her preoccupation. She nodded once as the beloved servant made with an exit.

The telescope dropped from numbed hands even as the door clicked quietly back to a close, and rolled across the opulent rug as though it too would seek to warm itself in the treacherous heat of the hearth. Emptied fingers flew to keep it from any such a fate however. It was not until Isys resumed herself properly into her seat, that she noted her tightened grasp upon the metal cylinder had incited a small click, which spoke of the small twist which extended the scope into a greater length. The only now revealed portion of the trunk felt different against her skin than the shorter tube had before. Eyes narrowed to carry out a proper inspection but there was nothing obvious to observe. Still skin searched it to discern what eyes it seemed were unable to see.

It was not until she rose to take advantage of the greater light cavorting in the fireplace, that she caught the glimpse of curved runes when she passed by where the curtain was askance, and moonlight lanced into the room. Paused in her progress, the lady turned proper to the window and what the night sky might illuminate. Cold as that light may be, the words that moonlight divulged warmed the woman’s heart more wholesomely than the fire had ever managed to.

Addhor and Domanol Raxëlilta
residence above ‘Wood Works’ shop, 2nd Circle - Marketplace.
Same eve, 30th December

The urgency with which the door was thrown aside told of the most likely arrival. Addhor did not even turn to mark who had entered his home. For he knew the company he was expecting.

You are early,” he remarked, concentration retained about his task.

Running late actually ..” his brother corrected him, spurring the elder sibling to turn where he stood, in surprise. “So clearly you thought that I was somebody else. Is your lovely lady friend coming to ..

Unalmis is coming over for dinner tonight,Addhor took his turn now at correcting Domanol’s assumption. “As he does every week on this night ..” he further mentioned, as though such a habit ought to keep his brother from teasing him. As though he did not know by now that nothing would keep his brother from such a habit himself. “I understood that you have plans with your lovely lady friend ?

Yessh,” he was rewarded with agreement, even if the younger man gave up such a response around a bite of a bread roll he had helped himself to. “I just wanted to change my clothes first.

Wash up,” he was instructed, as though that were the better answer or in fact a directive all of it’s own. Addhor picked up and placed the plate that was being scavenged out of Domanol’s reach, before he gave his brother another glance. “Where are you going ?” he wondered, gesturing with his head toward the sink. With a roll of brown eyes, the younger obliged him. Mostly to spare himself the trouble of arguing the matter.

You’ll laugh,” came the warning. And yet the elder did not, yet. An expectant gaze with equally brown eyes simply awaited explanations. “She’s been invited to the theatre,Domanol admitted. “Strung me along for the opportunity as well. And since I turned her down the last time a group thing was ..

You’re going to the theatre ..” his brother was forced to ensure he hadn’t just misheard. “You ?

Are you going deaf or senile ?” he was asked in return. But Addhor calmly took his saucepan off the stove, and left the room. Blinking, Dom trotted after him, supposing he might find some explanation for himself now.

Do not make a mess of this,” he was warned, as the elder brother rooted out a long black coat from his closet and laid it across the bed. “It should fit well enough,” he added a white shirt and then delved further for the remainder of a fitting ensemble.

I don’t see that there’s any need for that,Dom sat on the bed and was forced to shuffle slightly as his brother immediately dragged the clothes he had just sat upon out from under him. “The beard was a joke. But if I start dressing like you too ..?

What did you think you were going to wear ?” he was asked to explain himself, and glanced instinctively down to one corner of the room, which was noticeably empty. Just where he had recently thrown the clothes he’d worn for the masquerade. A frown inspired his brother to explain. “The mess you left crumpled in the corner of the room was in no state to be seen.

We’ll be sitting in the dark,Dom groaned in protest. “Its the best I have. I really don’t think she’ll care any if it’s a little crumpled. What did you do ? Burn it ? Because it was left out of place ?

You won’t even get through the front door of the theatre, looking like a pile of crumpled laundry,” the warning was served up, utterly ignoring all attempts to insult. “Make an effort. For her sake, if not your own.

Well I always used to climb up the back steps and through the ..” the reaction to even the start of his plan silenced any thought of speaking out the rest. He had an entire misspent youth of sneaking into the rafters to watch plays as experience to support his expectation. If not to watch a play, then to try and get a glimpse of the actresses getting dressed beforehand. It had always been a plan to no avail but the journey was still easily recalled. “Since when do you have the threads to dress up for the theatre anyway ?” he wanted to know.

I went on the Winter Cruise last year,Addhor admitted, even as he turned back to tend to his kitchen.

With ..Domanol ventured a guess. Or began to.

Yes,” the answer revealed that the question was quite evident.

A smile found it’s way to the younger brother’s face even as he fought with the samples of his brother’s wardrobe and was shocked to find it was not too uncomfortable. A quick wipe over his boots with one sleeve returned some semblance of their former shine and that sleeve was easily concealed by the jacket’s own. Dom crossed one trousered leg idly in front of the other, leaning against the doorframe some moments later. He watched the meal as it began to come together. Almost sorry there was no time to stay and enjoy it with them.

Are you set with coin ?Add wanted to know, thoughts occurring to him as he focused on the dinner he was preparing.

Narry filled my hand, for helping him out,” was the response. “I’m not an idiot. But look, I don’t know what time I’ll be back.
A shake of his brother’s head accompanied one single raised hand. The elder did not want to know. A bell tolled somewhere outside and they both glanced toward the window. Addhor found his way to checking on Domanol’s finished efforts, glanced him over quickly and seemed satisfied.

You’re late,” the elder remembered, pointedly. The hug then caught him from behind, and was delivered without words. The hasty charge down the stairs moments after concluded with the second slam of the door in so short a time. The elder shook his head slowly and returned what focus he could unto preparing the evening meal. Frowning, as he wondered why there was now a second bread roll less than he remembered setting out. It was not a mystery which required too much thought though. And before long the door sounded again from below, and a new set of steps pounded up the stairs.

I’m early” his son celebrated, ever before showing his face.

You’re right on time,” he was corrected in his turn now, as Addhor set their two plates on the table, and gestured for Nal to take his seat. “So, tell. What has my son been up to, today ?

Well, don’t tell my father,Nal took his seat and joined in their usual game. “But his son has been out taking a good friend on a long overdue tour. The healer.

There is more than one healer,” his parent pointed out.

The Rohir,” his son clarified. “He’s here for sort of a training cultural exchange ?” His reminder found a nod as the explanation recalled the fact.

Xyler.Addhor proved he had been listening previously.

The absence of any correction this time confirmed there was no need. And as the father did not ask for further details, the son was able to keep his secret, his truth, about just what he had wanted to talk to Xyler about. Still the evening-in commenced with as much interest and enjoyment for the two, as the evening-out promised to prove for the other of their clan.
All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost
The old that is strong does not wither, deep roots are not touched by the frost.

Gladhron | Gwestion
White Tree Theater, Fifth Circle
December 30th, evening

Gladhron looked at Tercen with curiosity. Getting to know each other better? Including Gwestion? He glanced at his brother, who was also giving Tercen an inquisitive look. Of course, as he continued talking, it became quite obvious what he was getting at.

"So, you're going along too?" Gladhron said, needlessly. He nodded slightly. "I guess that would explain why you're in such a good mood." He mentioned, referring to what he had been asking about before. When Tercen added that he'd rather they didn't mention it to Arnyn, Gladhron gave a little nod of agreement. "Not a word," He promised.

"I wouldn't be surprised if she has already guessed," Gwestion mentioned. "But you needn't worry about me mentioning it, either." He added. "Still, I am curious as to why would you want to go there?" He frowned, puzzled by why the guy seemed so cheerful to be going to such a horrific-sounding place. As Tercen set off back for where the ladies were waiting, Gwestion glanced at Gladhron with a questioning glance.

Gladhron just shrugged, as he had no answer to the unspoken question, and went after Tercen. Gwestion shook his head slightly in bafflement before moving to catch up to the other two.

White Tree Theater
Dec 30, evening

Seri grinned in amusement at Arnyn's question. "I didn't actually ask how he planned to make his entrance." She answered. "That might make for a rather entertaining addition to the play, at least." She laughed. Then, turning back to Ava, she looked a bit surprised by the invitation to the box. "Indeed, that is very generous," She mentioned, a bit unsure what else to say.

Ava smiled. "I do like to be generous whenever possible." She shrugged slightly. "It's no trouble, in case you were worried about that."

"Well, thank you, we'd be very happy to join you." Seri replied, since she couldn't think of anything else to say. "And, yes, leaving a message for him would be a good idea," She agreed with Arnyn, with a little grin at the joke about him swinging up high enough. "Excuse me a moment, I'll go and take care of that right now." She decided.

Ava nodded and told her the number for the box so she could include that in the message.

With a nod, Seri set off to speak to someone at the ticket counter.

"Are you two excited to see the play?" Ava turned toward Brooke and Aislin with a smile, as she did not want to leave them out of the conversation.

Brooke nodded. "Yes, very." She answered with a little smile. "Though, I usually have my dog with me... it's weird being somewhere without him. But Aunt Seri said they probably wouldn't let him in, so... yeah."

Ava nodded slightly. "I wouldn't think they would allow dogs in here, so I'm sure your aunt was right." She agreed, with a slightly sympathetic smile. "Personally, I miss having my cat around, so I understand how that is, in a way." Her smile grew a bit as she saw Tercen approaching, along with Gladhron and Gwestion.

Arnyn | Tercen
Fifth Circle - White Tree Theatre
December 30th, evening

"Ladies!" Tercen greeted them all upon his return, arriving at the now extended group of women a bit earlier than the two ranger brothers. He easily found his way to Ava, slipping a casual arm around her waist as he stood next to her. "Hey, Brooke," he greeted the only one of the newer arrivals he already knew by name. "I don't believe I've had the pleasure?" he added with a smile, looking at Seri and Aislin in turn. "Well met! I'm Tercen. Tonight, I'm escorting this beauty," he explained, nodding at Ava. "I'm also lucky enough to be Arnyn's brother," he added, figuring that should tell the unknown ladies enough about how he fit into all this. As Gladhron and Gwestion joined their little group, he went on. "And I've had the opportunity of befriending Gladhron and meeting Gwestion and Brooke at the Wayfarer." He slanted his head, his attention drawn back to Seri. "Lady Blossom?"

Arnyn smiled at her brother's easy manner. He was never awkward or lost for words in situations like these. "You men will be less outnumbered at some point," she informed him. "Seri's date will be arriving on the later side."

Tercen's smile grew into a grin. "Ah!" Another person to befriend, perhaps! "I should say, though, I do not mind being outnumbered by ladies."

"Of course you don't," Arnyn said lightly.

Tercen kept on smiling, unperturbed.

Arnyn smiled, shaking her head. "Alright then. Now everyone we should be expecting around this time, is here - should we go and find our seats?"

Seri did not take long at the ticket counter, and soon rejoined the group, just about the time the gentlemen were also joining them. She smiled with recognition when the unknown guy referred to her as Lady Blossom. "Aha, yes, I remember you." She declared with a cheerful smile. He wasn't difficult to place, after all, with his outgoing ways, and the long, blond hair. "In normal times, I am called Seri," She added with a little grin. "It's nice to officially meet you, Tercen. I've been hearing a little bit about you," She added.

Gladhron smiled slightly, since he knew he had told her a bit about some of the time he'd spent with Tercen. Of course, Brooke could have also mentioned something about having met him, too, he realized.

"As you've already met one of my nieces, allow me to introduce the other." Seri went on. "This is Aislin." She motioned to the other girl, who seemed somewhat quiet at the moment. Perhaps the grandeur of the theater had left her in such awe that she was quieter than normal? It was usually Brooke who was quieter than Aislin, but she didn't comment on it.

"Hello again." Brooke replied quietly to Tercen. "I um, left Chewy behind this time, so.. no need to worry about him trying to run off with anything. Although, I guess if he'd been here, he could've helped keep you from being outnumbered..." She added thoughtfully, but not entirely serious.

As Tercen came up and put his arm around her waist, Ava smiled at him. And at his words about her. "I believe we are ready, yes." She agreed with Arnyn, after a brief glance around to make sure no one had any objections, then she consulted with the seating chart they had given her. "I believe we go this way." With that, she took Tercen's arm and set off to lead the way toward the stairs leading to the balcony seating.

Arnyn | Tercen
Fifth Circle - White Tree Theatre
December 30th, evening

"Hello, Seri," Tercen said pleasantly, trying out the name. "And Aislin." At Brooke's mention of Chewy, Tercen chuckled. "Too bad he isn't allowed in here. He could have livened things up." Arnyn tsk-ed audibly, but Tercen shrugged. "What?" he asked. "Not everyone in the world is fascinated by a group of people up on some stage, performing a story.

"You love stories," Arnyn pointed out.

"I love reading stories," he corrected. "So I can stop whenever I like. And go anywhere I like. And I love hearing them - if they're shorter than a whole bell!" At least Ava had seen to it that he wouldn't be crowded by a whole bunch of strangers. In that box, hopefully he would be able to have some more space, as well as an easy exit.

It was at that moment that Ava agreed they were about ready to go find the box Ava had reserved. When Ava took the lead with Tercen, it seemed logical to Arnyn to fall in with Seri. Since Seri's date was not there yet, and Arnyn had none - and she figured the brothers would probably walk together anyway, just like Seri's nieces would.

"You came to study at our Houses of Healing, yes?" Arnyn broached a new subject with the northern lady. "What opinion have you formed of them, so far? And which of the healers have you been meeting with?"

Torniel
January - Third Circle, Minas Tirith

"Are you that thirsty, sir?" she asked, her tone light but her gaze nowhere near casual. It was easy to keep smiling, given his laugh, and she kept her fingers laced through his as she preceeded him up the stairway. It opened up into a landing, with a single door, which opened to the living quarters she had set up here. The first room was made up of a dinner table area and an adjacent cushioned seating area, all in whites and browns. Torniel led Dauntless inside the area, which was spacious, airy, luxurious - and obviously expensive, though not at all subject to frivolity. Behind a low wall, low enough to peer over with ease once you were over five feet, was a smaller kitchen area. The sleeping quarters could be reached by a dark metal, spiral staircase - meaning they were quite spacious, since they stretched over the entire space, one floor higher still.

"I am sure it is nothing compared to the abode which you call your family residence," she said, opting for an effort at humility. "Regardless - I thank you. Sit, if you will," she invited, gesturing at the very comfortable-looking chairs around the solid wooden table. She touched his jawline with her free hand before letting go of his hand with her other, and stepping toward the kitchen area, where she opened her pantry and peered inside. At his next comments, about having partners and business cliques maybe being cutthroat, she froze momentarily. Torniel hid a shiver while taking out a basket, some food items and one of the several excellent bottles of wine she had stacked here. For exactly this occasion.

"You ask questions in your search to unravel me," she said, her words as slow as her steps on the way to the table, "yet you hope my mystery will never end?" She gave him a thoughtful look as she placed down the basket and the bottle. "so then I must answer in a way that both sates your curiosity andkeeps you guessing," she surmised, before turning back around in search of the right glasses, plates and cutlery.

Upon her return to the table, Torniel slowly but expertly uncorked the bottle and poured Dauntless a glass. She lifted it toward him, a little seductive smirk playing about her lips. "I told you, at some point, that after my parents passed, my uncle took me in," she began carefully. "He taught me much. Not all things I was actually interested in," she added, feigning some humor, as if some childish - and later, adolescent - rebellious streak was to blame. "Through tutoring. And experience. You could say he is my boss, still - since I am expected to follow up on all leads with which he provides me. If only out of gratitude for his... generosity." It was difficult to keep her voice from obtaining a harsher, sharper tone at that. Yet, she managed.

She managed - because Dauntless could not know, for his own safety.
She managed - because she had no desire to turn herself into a victim, in his eyes.

"Regardless of whether what he should be called - boss, partner, associate, elder... The money which I make has been my own for many years, now." At least there was that. She had paid off her financial debts to him, long ago. "And you are right, about business sometimes being very cutthroat. Money can do crazy things to people. Money. Power. Desire," she added, her voice going more quiet at every one of those last three words.

Ava, Seri & Brooke

White Tree Theater, Fifth Circle
December 30th, evening

Hearing the exchange between Tercen and Arnyn, Ava mentally took note. But she was also a little puzzled by one thing he said. "Shorter than a whole bell?" She asked, glancing curiously at him while they walked. "What does that mean?"

Meanwhile, Seri smiled at Arnyn's question. "Yes, that's right." She confirmed. "So far, I've mostly met the master healer, Pele, and a nurse named Maeth," She thought for a moment. "I've only vaguely met a couple of others, so far. As far as the place itself, I'm very impressed with everything," She went on. "It's much bigger than what I have at home, obviously. But I really like it. I've gotten a few ideas that I'd like to implement, once I get back home."

Gladhron tried not to feel too disappointed when Arnyn moved to walk with Seri, rather than him. He mentally shrugged, telling himself that it wasn't as if it was any sort of rejection of his company. He kept up with the group as they started up the stairs. "Maybe someday, you should take Bel to the theater here," He muttered to Gwestion with a little smile, amused at the thought of him taking her on a trip all the way across the realm, just to attend a play.

Gwestion rolled his eyes and ignored him, deciding it was probably best not to respond to that teasing.

As they entered the box, Ava took a thoughtful look around before nodding in satisfaction. "Looks nice." She declared, pleased to see that the seats here looked more comfortable and luxurious than the ones down below in the regular seating. There were ten chairs situated where each would have a good view of the stage, forming two rows of five, and yet it didn't feel cramped or crowded. The lights were still bright since it had not begun yet, but the lanterns could be dimmed once the play began.

Aislin
White Tree Theatre
December 30, evening

Aislin did not even care to hide her bubbling excitement at going to the theatre; while she had expected new things and adventures but it turned out that there were many more than she had even imagined. So she had dressed up as best she could from what clothes she had with her and made sure her hair was looking all neat.

When they met up with the other people with whom they were apparently to watch the play with, the girl did her best to remember her manners and not interject excited exclamations every so often in between the others' conversation. She would not mind to make some joyful chit-chat with the people she had just met but it was apparently time to move off to their seats. In a box. She imagined people sitting in an actual box and flashed an amused grin though she said nothing.

Eventually she did find her voice when lady Ava asked about the theatre. "Oh, I don't even know what to expect," she admitted, "But I'm surely excited!"

"You might not have Chewy," she then say to Brooke when she mentioned missing her dog. "But at least you still have me at your side."

When they reached their seating area, the box, apparently, Aislin wondered that there were only ten seats and looked down at the general area where most of the seats were.

"Oh... so this is like a... small box for some people instead of for many," she concluded.

Lord Abrazimir “the Dauntless”
January, Minas Tirith, Gondor

Are you thirsty, sir? The way his eyes shone at her, she ought to know and see just how much he was. He supped before, it was a taste he could not escape, and absence did not cause the thirst to lessen in strength and desire. Torniel brought him upstairs, beckoning him to sit with a touch of his jaw, leaving tingles across his strong chin, before Abrazimir moved to take a seat at the table. Again, as before, he unwound his sword from his belt and propped it up against a free chair, like it was a legitimate member of their conversation and gathering.

”Thank you!” He replied cheerfully to the offer, sitting down, his eyes following her as she moved in her cordoned off kitchen area. He did not catch any hint of discomfort at his query about business partners. All he saw was her elegant frame moving so gracefully about her home. He was a bit…too distracted, to pick up on any other cues. That things might not be as they seemed with her.

”Well I must unravel you in one way or another, fruit,” Abrazimir joked rather flirtatiously, though he raised a hand to indicate he would silence himself as she talked on about the contradicting nature of his words. To learn more and yet stay mystified. Still, his silly smile remained as she returned with plates, utensils, cups…and a bottle. Which she uncorked and began to pour for him. He took it with a nod of thanks and drank deeply from it to start, a sign of his own confidence in the moment.

As she talked about her uncle and upbringing, Abrazimir reached out to caress her forearm, running his hand up and down her limb as she talked about her past. It didn’t sound easy. Naturally, like any child, he suspected she had wanted to play and explore. Instead she had to work. Not ideal, but necessary. Torniel sounded very mature for her age. Which was what exactly? But even with all the distractions he could tell there was some resentment over it. She deserved a childhood, to know innocence and play.

”You’ve done very well for yourself from what I can see. Come, sit with me.” He beckoned her, using his caress of her forearm to tug her towards a chair by his side. He grabbed the bottle, and a free glass, and began to pour her a cup as well. ”I could relay a bunch of platitudes about how hard work has paid off for you but I think you’ll already be wise to all of that.” He wiggled his eyebrows at her knowingly. Flattery probably fell short with her. Action was more her tempo. And Abrazimir was all about the action, as she would know.

”We all deserve a little fun. My mother had brothers and sisters but my father was an only child. He can be very hard on himself – and us. My siblings and I. I suppose it’s all about wanting the best for us, for us to be able to manage on our own, since it’s not always guaranteed to us that we’ll have friends, family, a community, to help us.” Abrazimir said, peering at her so intently a moment. But…we could have each other, if even for a short time, it would be a beacon of light and belonging, in a sea of solitude. ”You understand though. You have succeeded at that, too. So very much. So!” He grabbed his drink and raised it in a toast.

”Here’s to you, beating all the odds.” He praised her and then finished off what was left in his cup. A whole cup, downed, in just two or three short minutes. Time for another. And he reached over to pour himself and to top Torniel’s cup as well, if she wished.

”Maybe I will get to meet this Uncle of yours one day, see the man who raised you to be so formidable. And sweet.” Abrazimir added, with an air of mischief in his tone and eyes, licking his bottom lip to recapture some of the taste of wine that already passed his lips.

Lady Gaerlothriel Dimaethor
December 24th, Minas Tirith Streets, Gondor

”Thank you!” Gaer said to Brooke when the other girl praised the prettiness of Gaer’s name, touching her chest and heart in a courteous gesture to the compliment. Though, she did not press Brooke back about her own elvish name. If the other girl wanted to share, that would be lovely. But there was no pressure here.

”I can teach you a bit, while I’m in the City. And if we write to each other, I can…maybe write my letters twice, once in the common tongue, another in Sindarin. That’s usually a good way to learn some basic phrases and words, comparing them side by side. Linny could probably do the same too!” Gaer offered to Eryn, though she wasn’t sure how effective this technique might be, it would be a start. And a little favour to repay Eryn for her hospitality and archery lessons. She glanced at Brooke too with a smile, extending the offer silently to the other girl as well if she liked, though Gaer didn’t know how a letter from Belfalas might get to Bree. But the world was changing and becoming connected again, without doubt or mistrust, so there was hope.

”I love history,” Gaer said, when Eryn said she didn’t. ”If you do decipher it, I will be first to read or hear your report. It’s an admirable task.” She praised Brooke on her attempts to translate a Quenyan history book. Now that must be some real history, from the first years or decades of Gondor. Three thousand years old and more, her father once said. There was so much lost in the myth and obscurity of the past.

She was a little amazed that the girls knew of House Azrubel but then again, her kinswoman Isys was a very famous knight. More than her own brother! ”Oh wow, small world, huh?” She said, intrigued, that the Azrubels were related or connected to her new friends somehow. ”Maybe we’ll see each other at some big party in the near future. It’ll be a lovely coincidence.” She wiggled her eyebrows playfully. And while her own family, the Dimaethors, seemed to segregate by class, the Azrubels were more open with their invites and guest lists, which Gaer thought was the much better way of doing things. She didn’t take her status as a noblewoman as seriously as her father did.

”I’m glad they find time for the arts and such, at least.” She nodded understandingly to Brooke’s description of Dare and his acting troupe. That was more than she got to do or see and what mattered is that they made others laugh and enjoy life.

Gaer nodded and hummed happily in acknowledgement to Eryn’s telling of Wisti’s activities and hopes. It had only been a day or two apart from having last met Wisteria and already Gaer felt like the ballerina-hopeful was a pivotal part of her own life. She definitely intended to support and sponsor the girl in her dreams. Somehow. With her meagre means and resources.

Linny soon returned, adding in her support of Brooke attending, bringing her sister too and all. Again, Gaer waved off the need for coordinated dresses. ”We were just being foolish, don’t worry about the matching us.” She laughed, showing how unserious that was and not to feel left out.

Eryn excused herself for her fitting and afterwards, they would be free and done here. ”Good luck, we’re here if you need assistance!” Gaer offered, volunteering to do the work of a handmaiden or something if necessary.

”Well the show is tomorrow. Tonight is actually the opening night for the performance we’re seeing. But we’re going to meet tomorrow. There is a café down the street from the Hall of Songs. We will meet there a hour before. Though we are not going to eat or drink anything, since that’ll be provided to us in the Hall, in our Box. Such royal treatment!” Gaer said, adding that in as an enticement. Not only a free show, but a free meal too! Though it would probably be finger food snacks and all. It should be enough to sate the little ladies though.

”If you and your sister can make it, that’s where we’ll be. We can wait for you. Or send messages beforehand as well. Linny is staying here in the City, while my family is out on the Pelennor, like Eryn. I can give you the address. If you can or cannot make it, just send word. And if there’s any changes to the plan, I can send word.” She said, feeling a little elated at all the planning and scheming. It felt so grown-up, handling all these details, juggling schedules and personalities and timing. She had to get it right for the best possible experience, for all of them. And any shortfall or mishap would also be her fault.

”My brother will chaperone us too. He’s not going to watch the show with us but he’ll be there before and after.” She added as well, citing that they’ll have an escort and protection, especially after the show when it’ll be dark. And certainly much more of a gentleman than their current chaperone. He couldn’t even be bothered to come inside and make sure the Shopowner didn’t try to overwhelm the girls or trick them in any way.

”Don’t feel too pressured though. I know it’s a lot, to have to sit silently with some girls you’ve just met for several hours and not be able to say a word.” Gaer chuckled lightly, indeed noting that these friendships were moving rather fast. But was it all true and proper compatibility or was she just being naïve and foolish? Only one way to find out.

”When Eryn is done with her dress fitting, we are all finished here.” She concluded, wondering what they might get up to next.

Arnyn | Tercen
Fifth Circle - White Tree Theatre
December 30th, evening

On their way to the box, Tercen lowered his voice to reply to Ava's question. "Have you heard the bells, Starlight?" he asked her quietly. "During the day, they ring every hour, upon the hour. It is a way to easily tell time throughout the day, for the city folk. And it has also weasled its way into our language, I suppose." He kissed her temple.

"I'm glad you're finding the facilities interesting." Perhaps Seri could even pick up some knowledge? Then again, Arnyn did not feel comfortable commenting on that, for she knew far too little of healing herself in order to do so. Nor did she have a good idea of what kind of knowledge Seri did or did not already possess.
"If you've met the Master Healer, then you've already met my Captain, as well," Arnyn reminded Seri with a smile. "I'm pleased to hear she has found some time to show you around, at least."

As they arrived at the box, Arnyn decided to hold back a little, so the people who did not have the opportunity to come here whenever, would be able to choose their seats first. Yet, everyone seemed to hesitate, not wanting to choose first. So, Arnyn subtly cleared her throat. "Ava," she began, "since you have so graciously provided for these seats, you should choose first," the blonde ranger suggested.

Tercen lowered his head a little to whisper to Ava: "I'd prefer a seat at one of the far sides, Temptress. If that's alright."

Arnyn didn't hear what her brother said, but she could guess it once Ava sat down in the front row, one seat from the end, and Tercen followed to take the seat next to her, at the far end of the row. It would provide him an easy exit. Not that Arnyn thought he would actually get up and run away - but it probably felt more comfortable to him.
Not feeling particularly inclined to watch any of her brother's public displays of affection, should he choose to do that, and still wanting to give the visitors to the city the best seats, Arnyn chose a seat in the back row, on the other end of where Ava and Tercen were sitting in the front row.

Gladhron | Gwestion
Ava, Seri & Brooke
with Aislin as well
White Tree Theater, Fifth Circle
December 30th, evening

Brooke smiled at Aislin. It was definitely nice doing things together. And it was also fun that, here in Minas Tirith, no one actually had to know they weren't really sisters, so they could more easily pretend they were. She looked around as they reached the box, and wondered how they ought to arrange themselves. To Aislin, she said quietly, "It's the same sort of balcony thing, like where we watched the Ballet with Gaer and the others, remember?" That had only been a couple of days ago, but it had been at the Hall of Song, not the Theater, so the seats and balconies and everything were a bit different.

Ava nodded slowly in answer to Tercen's explanation. "I see," She answered thoughtfully, then gave a soft smile to him. As it came time to discussing the seats, she paused, intending to let her guests choose first, but since Arnyn suggested she pick first, and she did want to make sure that Tercen was comfortable, Ava nodded in reply to her. She didn't even really need him to whisper what he did, but she gave his arm a gentle little squeeze before choosing a seat where her Sunshine could have easy access to the end, and therefore, the exit, if he should want to use it.

Seri glanced at her crew, thoughtful. Then considered the fact that Dom was supposed to be joining them, she decided to go with a seat in the second row. Like Ava had done, she chose a seat that was second from the end, so he could slip in and sit beside her easily without disturbing any of the others.

Brooke hung back while the others were choosing seats, but when she saw her aunt choose a seat, she nudged Aislin to join her in filling in the remaining two seats between Seri and Arnyn. Since she knew Arnyn a little bit from the North, Brooke figured she could sit in that seat, while Aislin could sit next to Seri. But before she had even sat down, Brooke glanced up at a light tap on her shoulder.

Gladhron was really just waiting to see where Arnyn was going to sit, because he planned to make sure he got to sit next to her. But then.. to his momentary alarm, Brooke was about to take his spot! He thought swiftly for some sort of excuse, and got her attention with a gentle tap on the shoulder. "You two are shorter than Gwestion and me," He whispered. "You should take the front row, so you won't be trying to see over us the whole time."

Brooke paused, considering that.. along with her own suspicions about why Gladhron might prefer for her and Aislin to move to the front row. She smiled slightly and gave a tiny nod. "Good idea. Thanks," She whispered back with a little nod. Then... the question was, which of the three remaining seats should she choose? She hesitated, then picked the one in the middle after a brief hesitation, leaving one seat between herself and Ava, since she didn't really know her. And then Aislin could choose either that seat, or the one on the other side of Brooke, on the end.

As for Gladhron, he managed to hide his smile of satisfaction when Brooke so readily agreed, and he slid into the seat beside Arnyn before Gwestion could even think about claiming that one.

Having hung back by the entrance of the box this whole while, Gwestion watched without moving for a seat until everyone else had chosen theirs. That left two seats available, and he ended up choosing the one between Seri and Gladhron. Soon, the play would begin.

No sooner had they all chosen their seats, than the main lights in the theater began to be dimmed in preparation for the curtains to open.

Tercen
Fifth Circle - White Tree Theatre
December 30th, evening

Now happily settled into one of the seats to the side, Tercen glimpsed at the row of seats behind them, and held back a chuckle as he saw Gladhron was quickly claiming the seat next to Arnyn. "So obvious," he whispered to Ava, with a little nod at the northern ranger. "Wonder what he would have done if the seating hadn't quite worked out this way? Would he have been sulking all throughout the play?" he wondered, actually kind of curious to what the answer might be. He was still very much on board with a man like Gladhron trying to court his sister - since she needed a little more spontaneity and joy in her life. Or at least, acoording to Tercen. And - a whole lot less work.

Fixing his attention on Ava, next, Tercen smiled contently at her. "Can you see the stage well?" he asked her. But it was more of a question just for the sake of having an excuse to look at her, because he was right next to her and his view was excellent. Hers would be, as well.

As the lights were dimmed, Tercen let out a little sigh and sought out Ava's hand with his, so he could lace his fingers through hers. Maybe the play wouldn't be half bad? He lightly rubbed his thumb over Ava's hand. She's not leaving me behind, he thought for the upteenth time that day, still marvelling at that latest development. I'm actually going with her! And regardless of his lack of interest in the play, Tercen's smile was very genuine as the actors took center stage.

When Gladhron sat down next to her, Arnyn smiled at him briefly, before turning her attention back to the room below. She crossed her left leg over her right, leaning her right elbow on the armrest. "I'm curious to hear how different this experience will have been from the travelling actor group you watch in the north, sometimes," she told Gladhron, while leaning forward a little to smile at Gwestion, too.

When the lights dimmed, Arnyn settled her back against the chair. The seats were more plush here than they were below, and she soon realized she was much too comfortable, given how tired she was. Mere minutes after the lights went out, when the very first scene was still being played out below, Arnyn had to fight her own eyelids. They were treacherously finding their way down, again and again. Not wanting to fall asleep and embarrass herself, she tried to resist it. But the truth was that Arnyn had no energy left with which to do such a thing. The box seat was soft, the room was dimmed, and she was downright exhausted.

This was a battle she could not win.

Maybe if I just close my eyes for a minute, just to rest them briefly, I'll be fine for the remainder of the evening.

She didn't quite realize it when she was already nodding off, leaning a bit to her right, and even hardly noticed when she suddenly lifted her chin an inch again, as if jolting awake. But she couldn't hold onto any alertness, and her eyes soon closed again.

"Balcony and box... well, yes... basically the same, I guess," Aislin responded to Brooke in quiet half laugh and then looked at the available seats.

"Suppose not being able to see anything behind your tall backs might defeat the whole purpose of coming here," she responded to Gladhron and then followed Brooke to plant herself down in the seat between her and Ava. She looked curiously down at the people below with some curiosity before while there was still a plenty of light for observations.

She glanced at Brooke and then whispered to her: "This does offer an amazing view, right? I kinda like these high places." The lights were then dimming and she focused her gaze towards the stage expectantly.

Torniel
January - Third Circle, Minas Tirith

The caress along her forearm made her skin tingle. She had no reason to reject the invitation and slight tug to come and sit next to him, and she watched his face as he poured her wine. Just like she had poured his, moments before. Ignoring his comment about hard work paying off, other than gracing him with a little smile of amusement, Torniel slanted her head at him. "Fruit?" she asked, repeating what he had said earlier. Called her - earlier?

Attentiveness could be seen in her eyes as Dauntless shared just a little more about his own background. When he raised his drink, she slowly did the same, her every move deliberate. 'Here's to you, beating all the odds.' Funny. In a way, she most definitely had. The scorn of the Hand's associates had been ubiquitous. How a pretty girl like that could not possibly have much to work with between the eyes. How a plaything like her could never amount to much. The Hand's plans had been different. And, somehow, his plans had panned out. She'd become a vital part of his network. One of the five. Even though she knew better than to actually believe she was a partner or associate of sorts - as she was pretending to be, to Dauntless. For how else could she explain what she was, without seeing not only disappointment but also disgust on his face?

She had yet to take her first sip when he lifted the wine again, so she shook her head and watched him refill his own cup, instead. Thirsty, indeed. When Dauntless spoke of perhaps meeting her uncle, one day, Torniel put her own drink to her lips. Slowly, but steadily, she drained the whole glass. Not breaking eye contact for so much as a moment as she did so. Afterward, she slid the now empty vessel toward him. Just a little. She was ready for that refill, now. If he was going for a pleasant buzz... she was not about to lag behind.

"Maybe you should hope you won't," she ventured, about him meeting her 'uncle'. Her gaze focused on the glass. "He is not a pleasant man. And he can be... territorial," she supplied, after taking a moment to think about the last word. "I understand the idea of a... difficult... father figure. Quite well. Despite the fact he took me in without having any real family relation to me, despite the skills he taught me --" Actually, because of the skills he taught me... "The least you could say is that he and I have a complicated relationship. Honestly, I hope the relationship between you and your father is better." Much better. Not warped. "There is a reason I prefer your name for me," Torniel admitted, lifting one shoulder briefly as her chocolate eyes returned to his grey pools, to stay there. "I cannot remember the name my parents gave me. My uncle gave me a few. One of which I use for all those contracts and business interactions." The wine and the knight sitting next to her made for a dangerous combination. The wine was being consumed so quickly, and Dauntless was looking at her so happily, with that note of mischief in his eyes. All of it together was loosening her tongue.

"How many siblings do you have?" she dared ask him, leaning toward him a little. Did he have brothers? Sisters? Both?

Gladhron | Gwestion
Ava, Seri & Brooke
with Aislin as well
White Tree Theater, Fifth Circle
December 30th, evening

Ava glanced back to the other corner, taking a look at where Tercen had indicated. She turned back to Tercen and smiled faintly. "Think she's noticed?" She whispered softly, curious if he could tell by looking at his sister.

Then she gave a little nod as she moved her chair just slightly closer to Tercen's, so she could lean against him more easily. "I can see it very well, yes." She answered him, then gave a little smile at Aislin when she chose the seat next to her. "Can you two see it well?"

Brooke nodded in reply for herself. It was an excellent view, in fact. Much better than it would have been down in the main audience's seating. She settled back in her seat and looked around as the lights in the theater began to dim. She leaned forward slightly when the curtain opened and the opening scene began.

Gladhron, meanwhile, settled into his chair, feeling quite satisfied. The lights began to dim. Soon, the play would begin. As the curtains started to open, he glanced over to say something to Celume, and noticed that she had her eyes closed. He smiled slightly in understanding, guessing that she had probably not slept very well, after the whole.. incident last night. In fact, he hadn't really slept that well, himself, and he could completely understand her tiredness. He leaned back in his chair, finding that the chairs here were rather comfy. He couldn't really blame Celume for being sleepy.

@Ercassie

Meanwhile...

He had waited for his opportunity with vigilance. Then, the moment the maid opened the door to do some sort of human thing, he bolted through before anyone could stop him. And then, he was free! Running happily around the outdoors, the dog cared not how many muddy patches of ground he splashed through as he crossed through some back yards, taking a shortcut as he raced off in the direction that he had watched his girl going. He had stood at the window earlier, watching sadly as she went off and left him trapped in the unfamiliar house. He could not understand why she had left him behind, because he always went everywhere with her. Obviously, it had been a mistake. But he'd remedy that now.

Soon, he picked up her scent, and with a long-furred tail wagging and slinging droplets of muddied water to the left and right of him, with each wag of that tail, he set off down the road. Soon, he arrived at a building. Her scent disappeared into it. But now he was again blocked by one of those annoying doors humans liked so much. He sniffed all around it, making sure that he had smelled right. Yes, she went in there. But now what? He sat and stared at it, whining softly. Then he put a (still muddy) paw up on the door handle and pawed at it, but without success. After staring for a long moment, the dog finally decided on more drastic measures. He stood onto his hind legs and began using his front paws against the door, the way he would on the ground, if he was digging.

In moments, the door opened, and the theater employee let out an exclamation of surprise as the dog pushed his way past him, nearly bowling the man over in his eagerness to get inside. With the play already in progress, the entry hall was empty except for the attendant. And, as the play was already began, the man knew not to exclaim and make a lot of noise, but he attempted to catch the canine, which ended up with Chewy becoming distracted from his mission by this new 'game', as he decided to see how much fun this game could be. This resulted in the theater attendant chasing the mud-soaked dog around the entry hall, attempting to catch him, and failing as Chewy nimbly dodged and evaded, tongue lolling out as he enjoyed this game of 'tag'...

Arnyn
Fifth Circle - White Tree Theatre
December 30th, evening

Her consciousness caught the first few minutes of the play before it all started drifting away. Instead of discerning sentences, Arnyn soon only discerned words. Then sounds. The side of her head and her shoulder made contact with something, off to her right. Arnyn shifted slightly, though not much, drawing in a deeper breath as she settled against it. The subtle scent of pine trees and something else that was familiar but which she couldn't place, reminded her of Ithilien, her childhood home and Tercen's current one. Places where it was safe to be herself. She let the breath out slowly as she relaxed and zoned out completely.

Tercen

"If she has, there's no way she's letting on," he answered Ava. "Or so I'd wager." Pleased to hear her say she could see very well, he glanced around them to take a final appraisal of the box, and relaxed further. A little smile tugged on his lips when Ava so easily continued the question down the row, to Aislin and Brooke. Content that Ava had moved her chair a little closer, he shifted enough to put his arm around her and pull her lightly against him in a way that he guessed would be comfortable for Ava, too.

He was planning on enjoying the evening. Being able to hold her close like this - just being - was definitely a perk. He had no idea what things might end up being like in Umbar, and even if he was overjoyed to be going with her, Tercen realized it probably would be nowhere near the same. Between not knowing how Izre would react to him, and still being unclear on what Ava would or would not allow any of her staff to see - and subsequently, what she would or would not allow him - Tercen intended to soak up every moment he still had with her, in Gondor.

Of a mind to try and make eye contact with Gladhron, intending to shoot the man a teasing grin in regards to him claiming a seat next to Arnyn, Tercen glanced over Ava's head. What he saw made his lips part with undisguised disbelief. He blinked. Was he seeing things? No. Why would he? But... He blinked again, more slowly this time. Deliberate. There was no denying it, though. Arnyn had her head on Gladhron's shoulder. Was she asleep? He couldn't quite tell, in the dark, with the seats between them. But it looked like maybe she was. Owkaaaaaay.

Was Arnyn really that tired? Or had Gladhron been holding out on him about his progress? Or had Arnyn been holding out on Gladhron? Or... Tercen turned his gaze back to the stage, not really wanting to stare and draw more attention to the pair. Whatever the case... it wasn't a bad thing his sister had her head on Gladhron's shoulder. But damn, he was curious.

Dulinneth, Eryn Raedor & Brooke
Dec 24, afternoon
2nd level, inside the dress shop

"Ohh, letters would be nice!" Eryn agreed, thinking that might be a really fun way to learn the sindarin. "My father has been teaching me a little, but he's usually busy." She added. Except for the few months when he was unable to walk. But she didn't mention that.

Brooke brightened slightly, again, when Gaer mentioned enjoying history. "I don't usually meet many other people who enjoy it, too." She commented, happily surprised by that. "I've been making notes of what I managed to translate.. maybe I could show you? But they're in the room at the inn, so.. that would have to be another day." She added.

As for attending some big party, Brooke shook her head slightly, shyly. "I doubt that." She told her. "I mean.. I don't even know when one of those would be. And I.. I really don't think we'd get invited to anything like that." She wasn't sure how to mention that they didn't have a lot of money to go buying fancy clothes like one would wear to some 'big fancy party'. She watched as Eryn went off to pick out a dress to wear for the ballet, and wondered just how much they might cost.

"That's alright, those big fancy parties are usually boring, and stuffy." Linn mentioned. "They have way too many rules to keep in mind." She joked. "It's more fun to spend time doing our own thing, like going to the ballet, or going out to Eryn's farm to do things."

Brooke smiled faintly at that. "That doesn't sound very exciting, no." She agreed, then turned back to Gaer. "We can meet you at the cafe," She agreed. "I mean.. I think Aislin would want to go. She's all excited about doing anything new, so I would think she would be excited to go to this." She hesitated when Gaer mentioned her brother chaperoning, and thought briefly. "Whose brother was that guy.. earlier?" She asked, trying to remember which one of them had said he was her brother.

"Oh.. he's mine." Linn answered with a little eyeroll. "He won't be there. He better not be, anyway." She added with narrowed eyes. "I think he'll have something else to do." She added with a nod, trying to be confident about that. He surely wouldn't intrude on their time at the ballet. He better not!

Brooke relaxed slightly and nodded. "I.. think me and Aislin would probably have a chaperone, too," She mentioned. "Either Gwestion, or his brother, probably. Gwestion's been very concerned about letting us wander around without one of them going with us." She added shyly. "We don't really know the city, and it's.. safer, I guess."

"Are they relatives to you?" Linn couldn't help her curiosity, and it seemed like an innocent enough question.

Brooke shook her head slightly. "No... not technically. But they are.. um, sort of like family? I guess? I mean.. I'm not really related to them, but I could imagine them being like... my big brothers or cousins or something like that, you know?" She smiled faintly. "And Seri thinks of them sorta like they're her nephews or something. They escorted us all the way from Bree to here, and it took like, months to make that journey. So, we all got pretty close, traveling together for so long like that."

"That sounds like so much fun!" Linn tried to imagine having some pretend brothers who were nicer than the mean one she was stuck with. And getting to travel a long, long way through the wilderness and all. She wondered if that was what Anurion had done, when he left home.

"Tada! How do I look?" Eryn asked, returning in a pink dress that was nicer than anything else she owned. She had decided, as long as she was getting a new dress, she might as well get something that she could reuse for other things. Like a certain dinner date she had made with a certain young man in the near future, where she had said she'd wear a pink dress so he could identify her. She did a spin around to make the skirt flare out a little and let her friends see the dress from all angles, then waited with a hopeful smile.

Gwestion & Chewy

Gwestion stepped out of the cafe with a small frown, Chewy trailing along beside him, sniffing around at everything in sight. The ranger looked down at the dog, thoughtful. Then he whistled softly to encourage him to come, and together they set off.

Gwestion was a little puzzled. The young man, who had been introduced as the chaperone to the young ladies Brooke was now with, had claimed he was going to be in the cafe. And yet... he was nowhere to be found, when Gwestion went in. He wasn't really sure whether this was a matter that he should concern himself with, but something about it felt... odd. It seemed odd to Gwestion that if he had been asked to stay with the girls and be a chaperone, that he would then leave them. Not that he felt that the dress shop was any sort of dangerous place, but why would he say he would wait across the street, and then not do that?

It didn't take long before he caught a glimpse of him, hurrying down an alley. What was that about? Gwestion frowned, thinking. He followed at a distance to the end of the alley, then looked down the road and saw the guy making his way down the street hastily. Gwestion watched until he was hidden by the crowds in the marketplace, then he retraced his steps to get back to the cafe, thoughtful. Wondering what the other guy was up to, Gwestion turned his feet toward the dress shop instead, and took a look into the window. He could see the girls sitting in a waiting area, so he relaxed a little and went back across the street, making sure to keep Chewy's leash securely in hand.

A long while passed. Gwestion walked over to check the window periodically, just to be sure, but it seemed like they were just chatting. He saw no indication that there was anything wrong, so he didn't intrude.

After he had finished a cup of coffee, switched to an herbal tea for a refill, and was debating whether to order a third cup and something to go with it, he noticed someone standing at the window to the dress shop. It was him. He had returned, apparently. After a few moments, he turned away from the dress shop and crossed the street, slipping into the cafe. Gwestion glanced over and tilted his head curiously. He didn't seem to be aware of Gwestion observing him, however. Instead, he picked a seat a little way down from where Gwestion was sitting, staring through the cafe window, at the dress shop. Gwestion continued to watch him, trying to get some idea about what he was up to, and why he may have slipped off like that, but there was nothing that he could observe about him that would indicate any such clues about this puzzle.

Still, there was something about him that Gwestion didn't exactly trust... but then, he couldn't help but question whether he was simply being 'paranoid' like Gladhron so often said. He sighed softly to himself and looked out the window at the shop, wondering if the girls were going to be much longer.

Domanol Raxëlilta
Arriving at the White Tree Theatre, Fifth Circle
Evening, 30th December

He wasn’t a man to be hurried, though dusk laid a cold chill of fingers at the back of his neck for encouragement. The borrowed coat provided a stiff collar which Domanol turned up, to shield his neck like a woollen wall. He knew his way, but also he knew several of the guards who stood as shivering props at several of the gates. He passed enough words with each of those to play polite. For all that he had expected to not be back in the city in time for the evening's assignment .. still there was late arriving, and then there was arriving so late that you might as well not have bothered to show up at all. He did not intend to fall into the latter category. And while he had horrified his brother with the notion of trespassing his way in through the back door somehow to the building .. that was only really Plan B.

When Seri had asked him along to this evening’s entertainment, Dom had consented to attend not only because he’d turned down the offer of a dawn breakfast last time. Though this was certainly more suitable an hour to his thinking, the prospect of being at close quarters, in the dark, with such a woman totally belied the number of other people who might also be at hand. The thrill of their being alone together with the group was almost as difficult to resist as the woman herself. And he had to admit, seeing the healer all gift wrapped the other night had taught him that even several years could not unfurl the secrets of a woman. Seri had petals he had not even yet seen, and he had thought he already liked what he’d seen.

The double doors of the theatre seemed less large and forbidding than they once had to a child who had wondered what mysteries occurred behind their heft. Still, he had never entered the building through this .. public .. portal. Doing so now caused the man to glance about him, half expecting to be shouted at or ordered out.

But it seemed as though the show had already begun .. At least some manner of entertainment was at hand. A rather flustered man in clothes that looked too neat for any sort of good was pursuing an animated dog about the lobby, or.. perhaps it was the other way around ? It was difficult to tell for sure. But the dog himself, Domanol needed no help to recognise. Chewy. That was Brooke’s dog. After watching for a moment, with his arms crossed at leisure before him, the rogue Ranger called to the rambunctious hound. Dropping to one knee, he clicked his teeth and uttered words of Elvish that he had witnessed even Erfaron bring beasts to calm. If that did not work, at least he could hope the pet would recognise his scent. For, groomed, and dressed up, the man certainly did not look as he usually did. But a dog was never fooled by frills.

Gladhron | Gwestion
Ava, Seri & Brooke
with Aislin as well
White Tree Theater, Fifth Circle
December 30th, evening

Gladhron had no sooner turned his attention back toward the stage, than he felt a light pressure on his shoulder. He first thought that Celume, having awakened again, was trying to get his attention. But when he turned his head to look, he was stunned to find her head resting on his shoulder. She was asleep. He blinked, completely at a loss for what to do. A part of him was ridiculously thrilled to see this. The other part was a bit awkward, because he knew she was asleep and probably did not intentionally choose to put her head on his shoulder. But he was also pleased to have her resting against him.

He debated for a moment about whether to put his arm around her, or just stay as he was. He didn't want her to wake up and feel more awkward if he had his arm around her.. but it would be such a cozy way to sit, wouldn't it? While looking down at her, sleeping so peacefully on his shoulder, he didn't see Tercen glancing back toward him. After taking a moment to think, he very carefully shifted his chair to move a little closer to hers, taking extreme care not to move too much or too suddenly. This way, he could sit a little closer and hopefully make her a little more comfortable.

Trying not to act like it was any sort of big deal, he finally made himself stop looking down at her, and focused on the stage. But inside, his mind was racing. This seemed unbelievable! Catching Gwestion glancing over, in his peripheral vision, Gladhron determinedly ignored him so not to acknowledge whatever look his brother might be giving him. All the while, he couldn't help the little smile on his face that refused to go away no matter how hard he tried to fight it.

On the other side of Gwestion, Seri was unaware of the scene, being focused on the beginning act of the play. She was wondering how late Domanol would be, hoping he wouldn't miss too much of it. She also wondered if he'd seen it before, but she had forgotten to ask about that, before. Occasionally, she cast her glance over toward her nieces, just to check on them. Just out of habit, more than anything.

In the front row, Brooke couldn't really see any of what was going on behind her. She ended up leaning forward a little bit while keeping her attention focused on the stage. After a moment, she began to imagine hearing her dog, and shook her head slightly. 'He's not here,' She told herself with a tiny frown of confusion. Whatever she'd heard, it had been faint and muffled enough that she'd only barely heard it. If she wasn't imagining things, then it was probably something else. Maybe a small child had made some noise that just sounded weirdly like Chewy's bark, because obviously, it couldn't have been him. She was probably just imagining it anyway...

@Ercassie

Meanwhile...

The game was rather fun, but Chewy was starting to lose interest by the time a familiar voice caught his attention and distracted him from the game. He paused, head tilted to one side, then rushed across the entry way to greet Domanol, tail wagging. Dom's clothes might end up with a few muddy pawprints on them, if he was not quick enough to stop him from his enthusiastic greeting.

"Is this your dog?" The attendant demanded, out of breath from all the chasing around.

Before the ranger could give an answer, Chewy barked, as if to tell Domanol 'come!' and then set off following his nose toward the theater seating. He was able to push the first door open with his nose and slip through into the area that would lead into the main body of audience seats, but then his progress was stopped by yet another of those pesky doors, which would lead up to one of the balcony seats. He stopped to look back at Domanol with an expectant expression on his face, then gave a soft little whine as he looked forlornly at the door that stood between him and his human.

Domanol Raxëlilta
Arriving at the White Tree Theatre, Fifth Circle
Evening, 30th December

Domanol was not quick enough to stop Chewy from putting muddy paws at him, but he did manage to catch those paws in his open hands, so that the borrowed clothes were spared the worst of the remaining mud.

My dog ?” he marvelled then, as the panting attendant made with assumptions. “No, he’s not my dog.” Somehow his evident amusement at the situation was sabotaging even such an honest claim. “Smart of you to chase him round and round so long though,” the Ranger smiled, approvingly. And the staff member did not seem to agree at all until the ‘stranger’ reached his point. “He’s spent all of his muddy footprints all over the floor out here where nobody in there will see the mess. That is if you clean it up in time, before the intermission.

There was a moment of slow understanding and then some further consideration. But still before the attendant could decide if he was glad or outraged by this remark, Domanol had noted that the dog in question had now escaped them both. And while it did occur to the man to suggest that the animal had clearly left the premises, .. the red-faced other man was already considering the inner door he’d just watched Chewy ‘break’ through. It seemed that the puffed-out fellow had to summon up the will power some more, before he’d continue the chase onto another level. So the ‘kindly’ stranger saved him from such a fate.

I’ll go make sure that he doesn’t get into any trouble through that way then, shall I ?Dom had already set off toward following Chewy as he concluded, “while you clean up out here ..” Any want to shout out in protest was hampered by the fact of the inner door opening ,… and the last thing that any member of staff wanted to do was interrupt the performance happening within ! He was going to be in enough trouble if anybody saw the muddied floor. And since there was not much else he could do until he got some back up,, he relented toward the inevitable task.

He made a mental picture though of the man who’d just gone in, without so much as paying or proving he already had purchased a ticket. The attendant would catch him on his way out. And so having calmed his concerns with this plan, he shook his head at the mess, and tried not to suspect that any man would train his dog to behave so, just to gain unpaid entry into the grand showing of the White Tree Theatre. Domanol was privately pondering that very same scenario himself, as though it had been his plan rather than quite beyond his control. The outcome was the same. And as he saw where the dog had been stopped, he hastened forward to quiet the animal’s sorrowful fuss.

You are such a smart dog,” he could not help but smile as he caught up to Chewy and cocked his own head as the dog had not so long before. “You followed Brooke here, didn’t you ?” he continued to whisper, leaning down to shuffle the dog’s head agreeably in both hands. He helped out a hand, palm raised to signal the pet to hold still. It didn’t work with Hattie so his hopes were not impressively high that it would have any impact on Chewy either. Still, with a sly glance back the way they’d come upstairs, Dom confirmed that the attendant had not come up looking for them. At least not yet.

Inching the door slightly open, the latecomer glimpsed the scene inside and though the lights were dimmed and the people seated all had their backs to him, Dom could gauge enough to recognise the party as those who would be expecting him. Of course, they would not be expecting him and a dog .. But that was not exactly his fault. If he led the animal out of there and back to the house, then he’d be later arriving than he already was. And if he just hoped that Chewy would be the most behaved he could be, at Brooke’s side, then it was only the theatre attendant who would be cross at him.

Since he’d rather face the latter, annoying somebody who by rights was probably already cross with him, than have Seri be cross with him instead/as well, .. well of course, he simply allowed for the dog to enter the box with him. The collaborative finger over his lips as they crept in was a very vain attempt at hoping no calamity now came to pass, of course.

Arriving at the balcony/box seating

Chewy looked up at Dom and wagged his tail slowly, as if agreeing with his statement. Of course he's a smart dog. And a good dog. The goodest, too! He'd managed to escape from the mean human who was holding him captive back at the house, and had come all this way to make sure that Brooke didn't have to be without him by her side. What better dog could there possibly be?

He recognized that the man's voice was lowered to a whisper, and other signals that seemed to imply 'quiet'. Having once learned very well how to stay quiet so not to put his girl in any danger from those she had once lived with, he understood the signal well enough. And so, he did not bark to let Brooke know he was on his way to her. For whatever reason, the human seemed to be acting as if there might be some danger nearby. Sniffing the air only proved that the dangers he knew by scent were nowhere in the vicinity, like the evil leather man. Still, he humored the human and kept quiet.

As soon as the door began to inch open, Chewy was on his feet. As soon as there was enough of the door open for him to push his nose into it, he did just that, and subsequently managed to wriggle the rest of him through soon after, pushing past Dom to enter the dimly lit room. Chewy sniffed around briefly to determine who was seated where, then found the easiest route to get through to her, as each of the latecomers sought to find a seat next to his respective 'girl'...

Gladhron | Gwestion
Ava, Seri & Brooke

White Tree Theater, Fifth Circle
December 30th, evening

The play was already proving interesting, but Gladhron was quite distracted. The feeling of Celume's head resting on his shoulder was making him smile. The memory of dancing with her, both at the masquerade and at the tavern the night before, was also making him smile. The fact that he'd had a terrible night's sleep, worrying about her after finding her passed out, and wondering what to expect in the meeting this morning, as well as worrying about how he was going to fix his mistake... well, that was all making it difficult for him to stay focused on the play, as his eyes kept trying to close and his head kept sinking down before he'd jerk it back up again. The faint smell of roses drifting into his nose was making him lean his head closer to her, however, finding it to be a very nice scent. Yet, not very conducive to keeping himself awake...

At first, when Gwestion felt something touch his arm, which he had resting on his leg, he thought Gladhron was trying to nudge him. To get his attention, for some reason. But when he glanced toward his brother, he was quite surprised to discover that it was not Gladhron who had nudged him at all, but Chewy! Gwestion blinked, watching in astonishment as the dog slipped through the gap that existed between his and Gladhron's chairs; a gap which had grown wider due to Gladhron moving his chair closer to Celume's.

The second thing he noticed, when he glanced at his brother to see if he had also seen this -curious whether he was as stunned as Gwestion- was almost more surprising. Gladhron had his eyes closed. Resting his head on Celume's head, which still rested on his shoulder. He'd glanced over in curiosity earlier when he noticed him scoot closer to her, and merely raised his eyebrows in some surprise to see her head on his shoulder. But now Gladhron was asleep too?! With his head, on hers? Amazed, and wondering if he was imagining things, Gwestion leaned a little closer to check. The lights were dim, after all, so maybe he was only imagining it? But yes, upon closer scrutiny, he confirmed that Gladhron had fallen asleep as well!

Sitting back in his chair again, Gwestion then glanced over his shoulder to see that the final member of the expected party had joined them. He offered a brief nod to greet him, but since he would be going to sit on Seri's other side, Gwestion didn't try to speak to him, not wishing to disturb any of the others.

Seri was not quite sure how late Dom was going to be, but she had saved him a seat next to her. She had chosen the corner in the back, to hopefully keep his late arrival from disturbing anyone else. At first, she kept briefly glancing back toward the door of the box, to watch for him, but as she got more involved in watching the play, she began to go a bit longer between such glances. So, since the hall outside of the door was dimmed as much as the box, she did not notice when he did arrive at the door.

Meanwhile, Brooke jumped slightly in surprise when a cold nose touched her hand. She stared in bewilderment at Chewy as he seemed to smile proudly up at her, as if to say 'I made it! I'm here!'. "What are you doing here?" She whispered softly, eyes widening. While she had wished he could be here, she had certainly not expected him to actually show up!

Naturally, Chewy did not answer the question, and instead, he came the rest of the way through the gap between Brooke and the empty chair. Then hopped into the empty chair beside her and sat there looking very pleased with himself. He looked at her expectantly, letting his tongue roll off to one side as he waited to be told what a good boy he is.

Brooke couldn't help a soft giggle, then glanced over at Aislin to see if she had noticed him. She reached out and scratched around one ear, shaking her head in amazement. "You have to be really quiet, Chewy." She whispered, and wondered why his fur felt muddy. She glanced at her hand, squinting, but she could not see very well what was on it. She looked around, trying to figure out how he'd come to be here, and that was when she noticed that Dom had arrived. Why had he brought Chewy, though? She wondered about that, but since she couldn't ask him about it now, she shrugged and turned back to face the stage, hoping they weren't going to get in any trouble for this.

As for Ava, she was contentedly leaning against Tercen, enjoying the play. It was certainly a nicer form of entertainment than what Umbar had to offer, and she was pleased to be here to see it. She was going to miss things like this, she thought with a little sadness. Soon, she would be going back there. And while a part of her was eager to show Tercen around her home and let him see where she usually lived, and meet her beloved Izre... on the other hand, she was nervous and worried for him. She couldn't stop worrying about the possible dangers that lay ahead. And the thought of that spy, or whoever he was, kept returning to her mind. What if he had been working for Pharak? What if, the reason she hadn't seen him anymore after that night, was because he had already returned to Umbar to tell Pharak that he had seen her here? The priest likely needed no more than a rumor to decide she should follow in her father's footsteps. Or maybe a spy had simply laid low, watching her, observing all that she was doing while she was here. What if Pharak had already heard about the man Ava was spending so much time with here in Gondor? Maybe he'd had spies on her since she left her home, and she had been foolishly ignorant of being followed and watched all this time...

Taking a slow breath in as these thoughts and worries began to crowd into her mind, Ava gave a tiny shake of her head, as if to try and shake them off to the back of her mind. Focus on the play. Enjoy the evening, she told herself. It was probably the last one she'd get to spend here, simply enjoying her time with Tercen, without anything else to focus on but the actors down on the stage and the story they were telling. She was aware of some stirring and quiet whispering, down on the end of the row, but she didn't look over to see what was going on, and figured maybe the girls were whispering among themselves. She ignored it since it didn't bother her, and wasn't directed at her.

Domanol Raxëlilta
Arrival in the balcony/box seats. At the White Tree Theatre
Fifth Circle. Evening, 30th December

Though the dog led the way into the little balcony, Chewy was still smart enough to do so with great stealth. And since the two shorter heads down in front matched up with Brooke and Aislin, Domanol let the shaggy beast reunite with clearly .. the reason he had come all the way here. Smart dog indeed .. For here were their people, it seemed.

Recalling who he knew would be attending this thing, the late arrival assigned the long blonde hair to Arnyn which made the two men along from her the Northern Ranger Bros. He pushed his tongue into one side of his mouth, so that no snort would escape him, at the state of Gladhron. But he managed to return Gwestion’s nod with one of his own, counting down the clan as he wove his way fluidly across the back of the balcony. Another blonde, though this time a stranger, and a man, was sat further along the front row, with a brunette close beside him. So Dom pegged them for the Lieutenant’s brother, and that fellow’s ladyfriend. If his own ladyfriend had told him their names however, Dom had forgotten them both.

The most important person in their close collective was the only remaining brunette, one he recognised even from behind, to be the reason he had come here. And since the dog had found his favourite cohort, so too did the older Ranger in his turn. With a single glance back to the now closed door from where he and Chewy had emerged, so stealthy, there seemed no cause to delay any further. But seeing as all the others had clearly removed their coats, the new arrival did likewise, draping it over one arm so that it was kept close to hand. Who knew where everybody else had managed to stow their outdoor gear, for certain they would not have walked here in this cold without any. Perhaps they were sat upon them, like cushions .. And who knew that he might still need to launch his own, as a makeshift harmless net to conceal the dog at some stage ..

Still, for now all eyes seemed to be on the stage. Or closed. The Ranger had to look back to be sure he had just seen that .. sleeping ? In the theatre ? There was far more advantage to be had, in this lighting and Dom tapped Seri on her left shoulder, even as he quietly made it behind her and sat down on her right. By the time she turned to see .. he was already smiling.

Did you think I had forgotten about you ?” he put to her in a quiet tone as he settled into the seat she had clearly saved for him. “No such luck, sweetgrass. I have been looking forward to this ..” He took the healer’s hand to cement the sincerity in such a comment.

Tercen
Fifth Circle - White Tree Theatre
December 30th, evening

The play wasn't bad. In fact, the actors were quite good, and the stage and decor had been wonderfully adapted to the scene. Tercen found he could almost fully relax, something he hadn't really expected. The woman by his side played a bigger part in that than she would likely ever know. With a content little sigh, his arm momentarily tightened around her before relaxing again.

Still, he was one to easily be distracted. And when he noticed something small and furry sliding up to the front row, his lips parted in surprise. He leaned forward in his seat a little to follow the creature with his gaze. Chewy!? The dog was very charming in his unapologetic hop onto the last remaining empty chair. And Tercen chuckled quietly as he leaned back into his chair, casting another glance over his shoulder to look whether Arnyn still had her head on Gladhron's shoulder. Tercen's jaw nearly dropped. "What the..." he mumbled in a whisper, as he saw that not only did Arnyn most definitely still have her head on Gladhron's shoulder, but that Gladhron also had his head leaning against hers in return! And they... both... seemed to either be asleep - or be awake but in a bubble all their own.

Some movement and whispers behind him made him turn further. Another late arrival, which helped explain Chewy's presence, probably. Tercen smiled and nodded as he saw a man he did not know sitting down next to Seri. Although, if the man was too focused on his lady to notice, Tercen would certainly not blame him. He could understand that all too well.

Ava | Seri
White Tree Theater, Fifth Circle
December 30th, evening

Feeling the light squeeze of Tercen's arm, Ava glanced briefly at him, checking that he was doing alright. She had no idea what to expect, but she was keeping in mind that Arnyn had said he didn't like to feel 'trapped' or something like that. So, as long as he seemed content and happy, she figured it was alright.

When he looked toward the source of the whispering, down on the far end of their row, she halfway glanced that way, then she did a double-take. Was that... wait, how did the dog get here? She was a little puzzled by that, as she recalled Brooke mentioning that she had left him at home. She tilted her head, then looked at Tercen curiously, as if he might have an answer. But he was now staring behind them, at the corner where Arnyn and the ranger brothers had sat. Where Arnyn had been resting her head on Gladhron's shoulder, she recalled with a faint smile. She nudged Tercen lightly, as a gentle reminder that he ought not stare, while trying her best not to turn and look over her shoulder as well. She was very curious, of course, but she didn't want to make it into a spectacle, and potentially embarrass either one.

While she was trying to focus her attention on the play once again, she heard the voice. “Did you think I had forgotten about you ?”

Ava caught her breath, her eyes widening as her shoulders tensed slightly. She had only heard that voice once before, but she recognized the accent well enough. It was the man from the masquerade! The maybe-spy was here? So he was following her?! And now... what was he going to do? Why was he making himself known to her? And should she answer, or ignore him? Pretend like he had the wrong person, maybe?

A little chill raced down her back at the words that followed, which she heard quite clearly despite the whispered tone. Was that a threat, directed at her? What was he looking forward to? Ava's thoughts raced, trying to decide what to do, and thought briefly of the others in the box with her. Why would he choose to confront her now, with all these other people around? What should she do? What could she do? What about the others? Was he going to threaten harm to any of her guests?

Seri, meanwhile, glanced over at Gwestion when she thought that he tapped her shoulder, only to hear Dom speaking at her other side as he slid into the seat on her other side. She turned toward him with a smile, pleased that he had made it so soon. She had begun to worry that he wouldn't make it until the intermission or later. Not wanting to disturb the others around them, she merely gave a shake of her head in reply to his question, though she looked amused. As if he would have forgotten her.

When he took her hand, she gave his a light squeeze, while her other came up to put a finger to her lips. She didn't want to start whispering so much that others would begin to be annoyed, so instead she leaned close enough to his ear to whisper where only he should hear her, "I'm really glad you came." She wanted to tell him more, like who was who, and how they'd come to be in the box seats, rather than the other, but it would have to wait until the intermission, she supposed.

Tercen
Fifth Circle - White Tree Theatre
December 30th, evening

He felt the change in the set of Ava's shoulders, and looked at her, wondering what was wrong. Tercen realized she had already nudged him just a moment before. Perhaps she was getting tired of him looking everywhere but where he was supposed to be looking? He brushed his lips against the top side of her head. "Sorry, Starlight," he whispered quietly. "I should probably focus more on the play." But the look he now saw on her face as he pulled back a little, made him uncertain that she was simply perturbed at the lack of attention he was paying to the stage. Tercen's other hand reached for Ava's. "Temptress?" he asked quietly. "What's wrong?"

Ava hardly registered Tercen’s apology, as she was too caught up with worrying about what to do. And whether the spy was planning to do something. And what she could do about it if he did.

She was also trying not to react too visibly and draw a lot of unwanted attention, but she couldn't help the fact that she was alarmed by this. She leaned close to Tercen, whispering softly in his ear, "I think we'd best wake your sister." She hated to disturb the woman's rest, when it was obviously much-needed, but this would surely be a matter best dealt with by the lieutenant, right? She went on, lowering her voice even more, if that was possible, "it's him. The man from the dance, who might be a spy. He's right behind us..."

He was not too concerned about having missed the start of the play. Scouting, reconnaissance, his past had taught him how to overhear whilst being underseen by the speakers, to fill in from the evidence any comprehensive gaps of what he was witnessing. Sometimes his interpretations were rather more interesting than the truth. Though he did not fret at all that tonight would hand him any sort of disappointment.

Raising his chin to acknowledge the attentive blonde man seated just in front, Domanol was soon distracted by the delight beside him. As was his counterpart of course. Seri squeezed the Ranger’s hand meanwhile, the universal language of fond affection which requires no words. And he wasn’t even sure she saw him raise one eyebrow as the woman gestured for them to refrain from open conversation.

There was no time to question any more before she had leaned in and laid her speech more gently, privately, in his ear. And then there was no need for questions either. Though he did raise his right hand slightly, to indicate the couple in front of them were also whispering .. so what was the danger really ? They wouldn’t be disturbing anyone, .. unless his date had actually come here with intentions to focus on the play itself …

In moving as he had, however, Domanol managed to lose grasp of the coat he’d hung over his right forearm. Sign language persevered, as the man raised now his own forefinger, kissed it once and then pressed it harmlessly against her own lips. Before he dropped down to the floor between his seat and that in front, to see about retrieving his (brother’s) coat.

Tercen
Fifth Circle - White Tree Theatre
December 30th, evening

He raised his eyebrows at Ava's request to wake up Arnyn. Why would she want to do that? Arnyn wasn't bothering anyone by sleeping here - besides Gladhron, anyway, since she had fallen asleep against the poor man - and... Oh. As it turned out, he needn't wait long for an explanation. The man from the dance, whom she thought might be a spy for that heinous blood priest? Right behind them?

Wait- had he just smiled and nodded at some spy assassin who'd come to, in a best case scenario, watch Ava and learn more about what she was doing here, or, in a worst case scenario, to kill her? And who knew who else?

"But," he tried to fight such bad news, whispering into Ava's ear whilst keeping his head turned so his peripheral vision gave him some notion of what was going on behind them, "Seri clearly knows him. And trusts him. So maybe--" Tercen shifted in his seat then, creating some distance between him and Ava so he could see what the man behind them was doing. "He is on the floor behind us..." he finished in a mumble, just loud enough for Ava, but probably also the stranger and Seri to catch the words.

Lord Abrazimir “the Dauntless”
January, Minas Tirith, Gondor

The nickname confused her, which was humorous to Abrazimir. Yes, fruit. He was sure she could figure out the context why. He was learning more and more of her. He knew that her relationship with this Uncle was strained, given the way she needed to down an entire cup of wine. A little liquid bravery to deal with that topic, huh? Without missing a beat, his strong arm reached over with the flagon, topping her cup up. But forget about that for now. She talked. He listened.

Her Uncle…was not a nice man. Territorial. Abrazimir quirked his eyebrows. High standards for who courted his niece then, huh? Well, turns out her “Uncle” wasn’t her actual uncle, but just the man who adopted her after her parents left her. Abandoned? Passed away? Why would he be so jealous that Torniel should find herself a man, removing herself from depending on his resources? Or maybe he saw her successes and felt it all belonged to him? Now he really wanted to meet the man, see what manner of man he really was. Abrazimir still found ways to justify the unpleasantness, knowing what little he knew. The War had been hard on many folks. Embittered them, with loss and fear. Time would heal…or it wouldn’t.

Their eyes met, as she talked about her other names. Truer names than the moniker he labeled her with. The Secretive One. Her birth name though…forgotten. And that was a sad thing. He reached out, putting his hand on her forearm again, patting it sympathetically. ”You don’t have to tell me anything…but I would love to know your other names. There are many facets to you, I can see that. I want to know them all. But only with your permission.” Abrazimir said to her, his hand stilled, but still resting on her arm.

And would stay there as long as she let it stay there.

But what about is family? It seemed cruel to talk about a happier family after the way she described her own dynamic. ”Two sisters, one older, one younger. Older is married, living in the vales of the Ered Nimrais. She has two small children. My other sister, she is grown but she is not…grown,” he described, tapping the side of his head to indicate in what manner she was lacking, ”if you know what I mean. She was at the masquerade too, acting like she was in a fairy tale.” He rolled his eyes humorously. ”She was rather taken with your outfits, though if she ever dressed like you, I think my father and mother would both swoon, clutching at their hearts. Sensible though. No one can wear it the way you do, Torniel.” He praised her style, purring her name and all.

And that reminded him. ”Shall we dine? I can assist you. Whatever prep work you need me to do. I have…some skill with a knife.” He hinted modestly, being a trained knight, he was of course very skilled with a bladed object. Though probably not in the same way she was. They talked, about some unhappy things, let them return to the joy at hand. Do something together, even if it was as banal as meal prep. He drank some of his wine, then offered his hand to her, to help her stand, and head together into the closed off kitchen area behind the half-wall.

”I too would like to live in the City one day. Maybe we’ll be neighbours.” Abrazimir mused, eyes still roaming around her home, appreciating it all. She had built quite a life for herself, without a man or companion. Quite formidable. He wanted to know all.

Lady Gaerlothriel Dimaethor
December 24th, Minas Tirith Streets, Gondor

”Another day,” Gaer agreed to Brooke’s offer of showing her notes, reaffirming the commitment. Gaer really did want to. She was meeting so many new and memorable people here and she was eager to build links with all of them. The White City of Gondor really did feel so magical. And she knew she hadn’t even seen a tenth of it. ”Never say never.” She encouraged Brooke, when she doubted if she would make it to any of the big, fancy parties in the future. The world was changing so much, so rapidly, who knew what might be possible.

She smiled knowingly at Linny who jested about the rules and stiff decorum of these parties sometimes. Honestly, the only silver lining was the people Gaer got to meet, like Linny, at these parties. Comradeship almost always made the misery more tolerable.

”Please ask her. Tell her we would love to have her.” Gaer nodded to Brooke stating that Aislin would love to join as well. The more the merrier. Brooke though asked about their current chaperone and it felt like the Sun was just knocked out of the sky and replaced with an inverted one. One that sucked all the light and colour out. Gaer though might be the only one having this severe reaction to the mention of Toggornir. He was Linny’s brother, and a bully, but to Gaer he was destined to be so much more. And it…was…terrifying. Her heart panged. A lump got started in her throat. She fidgeted her hands nervously. But she kept on a polite smile for the other girls.

One can hope she wanted to reply to Linny’s remarks but it would be…rude to degrade her intended in front of guests. So Gaer kept quiet. At least the topic changed to Brooke and Aislin’s chaperone, whether Gwestion or the brother. ”That makes sense, you all came so far, to a strange land, and the City is so big. We’re from Gondor,” she indicated herself and Linny, ”and we still need chaperones. They don’t have to be related, just moreso your parents and family trust them to have your best interests in mind. My brother will chaperone us tomorrow and I’m sure he will get along splendidly with your guardians.” Gaer said, assuring them it would be pleasant even if the chaperones did not get to watch the show.

And then came…Eryn! In a beautiful pink dress. ”Oooh,” Gaer cooed, rising to her feet and clapping her hands to mimic applause. ”You look gorgeous, Erynneth!” She praised the young woman. ”Like a pretty little flower, and- by the Valar, I sound like my mother.” She clapped her hand to her forehead in mock anguish at her comparison and laughed, slumping back on her chair. ”Are we all finished here, then? Shall we adjourn to the street and join Sir Chewy?” She suggested, missing the dog already.

With their business concluded, if they weren’t going to leave the shop wearing their dresses, the Chief Dressmaker had their dresses packed up and bundled for the girls to take home, along with their accessories. For a small fee, they could even have them delivered, which Gaer paid for. ”You should come by my lodgings tomorrow, we can prepare together, and we can meet Eryn at her farm, and we can proceed into the City together? And meet Wisteria, Brooke, and Aislin at the café.” She suggested to Linny, able to save some money by having the package sent to two locations instead of three.

And with that little piece of final business handled, they could proceed out of the store and back to join their menfolk and the cute doggy. She could have sworn Toggornir or Gwestion had peeked in through the window, but always vanished when Gaer looked back. She had been too caught up in the excitement and conversation she hadn’t been aware of her surroundings. And remembering what happened a few months ago, that was a shortcoming she needed to overcome. The City was safer, but not totally safe.

”Brooke, how long are you in the City? I forget if you told me. But we might have time to meet up again after the Ballet show, talk history, and do other things perhaps?” Gaer asked of the other girl, moving to walk with her out of the store. ”We can practice your elvish too!” She said, stepping back into the winter sun and peering around for their chaperones and the dog. Toggornir should have been here but…the less they saw him, the better.

Ava | Seri
White Tree Theater, Fifth Circle
December 30th, evening

"Seri clearly knows him. And trusts him."

This had her a little puzzled. How well did the northern woman know this man? Had she met him at the masquerade? After all, that was how Ava and Tercen had met, and things had developed rather swiftly between them. If the man sitting behind her was, in fact, a spy for Halsad, then he could be deceiving Seri... Ava's heart and head were both racing, trying to make sense of all this.

What was his goal? What sort of plan did he have? What she found most puzzling, was how could he have known that Seri would end up sharing a box with Ava? Even Seri had not known that, when she invited her date to join her at the theater. Had he, then, been eavesdropping at her house earlier, and heard Ava telling Tercen her plan to get a box seat, and invite those rangers from the north and their friends? But that didn't explain how he could have known to get acquainted with Seri at the masquerade...

There was not enough time to really sort through her thoughts and come up with a logical explanation. All she could think of was that this man was here, now, and possibly posing a threat to her and the others... and she kept coming back to the fact that he had somehow managed to get invited by Seri. Unless this fellow was not actually her date? She hadn't actually heard Seri say anything to this man. Maybe he had simply sat beside her and she wasn't sure what to do?

Seconds before Tercen added that he was on the floor behind them, Ava became aware of the stranger suddenly there, at the gap between her seat and Tercen's. Instinctively, she turned to see what he was doing, alarmed and prepared to prevent him from any sort of attack he might be thinking of. "What are you doing?" She only just managed to keep her tone to a whisper, but the question slipped out before she could think better of it; it was almost a demand, yet with a hint of alarm mingled with puzzlement in her voice. She did, however, make sure that she maintained the Gondor accent she had been keeping up for most of her time here.

As their generous host for the evening turned, with apparent startlement, to ask what Dom was doing, Seri winced slightly. She felt a bit bad that they had managed to disturb the other couple, regardless of.. well, her efforts, at least. She had heard Tercen's mumble about him being on the floor, too, albeit she had barely heard it. Still, it seemed that Domanol's arrival had been as disruptive for the couple seated in front of her, as it had been joyous for her.

She was also aware of Gwestion looking over to see what was going on, and she offered him an apologetic glance before looking over the rest of the seats, to check if anyone else had been disturbed. Brooke looked like she was busy, but due to the dimness, and her angle and the fact that Gwestion partly blocked her view, Seri could not see what had Brooke's attention, nor was she yet aware that Chewy had managed to make it here, along with Domanol.

While Gladhron remained asleep, Gwestion couldn't help but noticed the slight 'commotion' to his right. And somehow, he was not entirely surprised that Gwandhyra's arrival had stirred things up a bit. However, he couldn't help but note the startled tone in Ava's voice, although it was half-hidden under that authoritative tone. His gaze flicked to Gwandhyra, to see what his answer might be. The play was interesting, but he wanted to make sure everything was alright here.

Dulinneth, Eryn Raedor & Brooke
Dec 24, afternoon
2nd level, inside the dress shop

Brooke nodded with a little smile, pleased to have found someone interested in sharing history notes with. She rarely found anyone else so interested in the contents of 'dusty old books', so it was nice when she did. But when Gaer was so encouraging about the thought of maybe attending one of those parties, Brooke wasn't really sure how to reply. She didn't think Gaer quite understood that Brooke wasn't actually interested in attending something like that, but she also didn't think it would be very polite to say so. So, instead, she just smiled faintly and didn't comment further about it.

It was a relief that, for one, that it seemed as if Linn's brother would not be coming along for this ballet thing, but also that no one seemed to mind if Gwestion or Gladhron tagged along as Brooke and Aislin's escort or something.

"Yeah, I wish we didn't have to," Linn sighed softly. "But both of our parents insisted." She shrugged. "At least Togg didn't insist on tagging along with us in here, though." She wrinkled her nose at the thought of her brother in here, looking at women's clothing with her. At that moment, she was distracted when Eryn came out, and she smiled. "Very pretty!" She declared happily. "I think that color looks very nice on you, too!" She added.

"Thanks," Eryn felt a little silly, dressed up and all, but she also couldn't help but smile at the compliments. "I guess we're done, yeah." She grinned. "I just have to pay for this.. and I should probably change into my regular clothes, too." She added with a little laugh.

Once all the arrangements had been made and agreed to, they prepared to leave the shop. Although Brooke hadn't bought any new dresses, she did feel that she and Aislin had something suitable to wear that wouldn't make them look too 'underdressed' compared to the others. "Oh.. um, I'm not sure how long," She answered Gaer's question as they left. "Like... maybe.. a couple of months, perhaps?" She made a guess, thinking. "I um, I think I heard Aunt Seri say something about us planning to return in the spring... so, I guess we'll be here longer than you will, maybe? Cause like.. it's a lot harder to travel in the winter, you know, so um, yeah. We figured we'd try and wait out the worst of the.. winteriness. It's not that bad here, you know.. just a light dusting of snow maybe, but up North, the further you go, the worse it gets."

She smiled at the suggestion of practicing her elvish, as well as meeting up to talk history and such. "That would be nice, yes. We're staying at the Wayfarer's inn, on the second level." She added. "If you want to find me... or, usually I've been spending a lot of time at the library."

"So, what now?" Eryn asked. "Some hot chocolate or something?" She suggested, nodding across the street. "That is where the guys said they'd be, isn't it?"

Torniel
January - Third Circle, Minas Tirith

How was it that this man showed sympathy? When all they had done was... Well. They had done plenty. But they did not really know each other. Could attraction be this honest? Torniel had always seen a man's attraction to develop into nothing more than lust. Or perhaps it had mostly been lust to start with? Except for one other time, one other exception, which she suppressed for altogether different reasons.

But then what in the world was it that this man was now doing? What did he feel toward her, if not mere attraction and lust? He wanted to get to know her, that was clear. He enjoyed her. That was also clear. And she thought... she thought she had seen appreciation, for what she had accomplished. The 'business success'. The money. Which had lead to her expensive belongings. This place. Yet he did not seem merely blinded by the material side of things. He seemed to be attracted to more than just her pretty face and nice curves. He seemed to be attracted to her wits and her smarts, as well.

Go figure.

And yet. For all his curiosity, he did not press her. He did not demand. He only stated what he would love (not like) to know. And then he simply left it up to her. With her permission.

Trying to wrap her mind around that, she listened as Dauntless spoke of his own family. A little smile brightened her eyes when he spoke of his younger sister acting like she was in a fairy tale, at the masquerade. "That must be nice," Torniel said quietly. "Growing up safe enough to be able to play at such a thing." She only realized that what she'd said might trigger all the wrong questions, once the words had left her lips. Best move on, quickly. "My clothes are far from scandalous, Dauntless," she objected, with a little smirk and lights in her eyes. "At least - most of them." She leaned toward him a little. "In fact, you have yet to see my more daring pieces."

When he suggested to assist her with meal prep, Torniel raised her eyebrows. He wanted to cook together? Her lips parted in surpise as he guided her along with him and they both stepped into the kitchen area. Shaking her head a little, she fluidly pulled open a drawer and took out a knife, which she flicked up with one hand, so the point of the blade was held between her thumb and index finger, the handle pointing up toward the knight as she stepped into his space and offered it to him. "One knife, sir knight," she spoke quietly, her voice low and velvety as she looked into his grey eyes. "Neighbours, you say? The kind that can stroll into each other's abode when they're home?" she asked, in a slightly teasing tone. "Unanounced? Perhaps wearing something a little more daring?" Humour danced in her eyes. "Unless your father and mother might pay a visit, and choke on their drinks if they saw such a dress?"

Domanol Raxëlilta
Seated in the Balcony with ‘the group’, at the White Tree Theatre
Fifth Circle. Evening, 30th December

For a split second Domanol had believed that it was Seri, asking what he was up to now. But the ask came not only from the wrong direction. It also came almost in tandem with another’s response that he ‘is on the floor behind us’. Which, combined with the edge in the other voice, suggested that the two who had clearly by now turned back to make demands of him had already been talking about him, before he’d even stooped down to retrieve his coat.

To meet such a reaction was not entirely as bracing a blow as it might have been, if he had not been .. well, him. The only thing that Dom was unsure about was which of the things he’d managed to accomplish so far, was what they were angry about. Sneaking in without stopping to purchase a ticket, because he’d been following a dog which he knew ought not to have been permitted entry either .. But how was either of those things any of their business ? They could not be annoyed at his whispering a greeting to Seri, for they’d been well engrossed in whispers themselves. So with a sigh, the man leaned back on his knees.

Well,” he whispered back, and gestured for the woman to lean closer, since he did not want to disturb everybody else. “I’m answering your question,” he pointed out, regardless of her reaction, being quite unbothered as he was by admitting this very blatant truth. What else did she want from him after all ?

Placing his borrowed coat upon his seat, he then followed suit, but leaned forward still from this sitting position, now upon a coat/cushion, so that he could afford better scrutiny toward each of the apparently affronted pair. Aware that by now Seri and Gwestion both were loaning their attention to the exchange as well, Domanol blinked without any urgency and refrained from the urge to sigh. This was why it was better to watch from the rafters. Honestly ! There were far too many eyeballs on this situation already for it to simply dissipate without assistance, and he was not willing to dismiss himself from their entire company just because .. what ? Perhaps this was not the Lieutenant’s brother and his date after all. Perhaps this was some undercover theatre staff sat there. And what ? They couldn’t have known what had happened back in the foyer. Had they seen the dog come in just before him ? Did they think it would be somehow less disruptive to try and extricate said dog now .. or demand apologies … in the middle of the performance ? Of course it wasn't. That was how he'd known the attendant back at the foyer would not follow him within ..

Yes, Domanol struggled to see their issue. Had he inadvertently sat in somebody else’s seat ? No … the play had started already before he had gotten there, and Seri had made him welcome, not warned him he was not supposed to sit there. She had only … ahh. He recalled now. The finger that the healer had raised to her lips. But it was not as though he had been the only one whispering clandestinely in the dark.

So if they had thought that he was done, they would be wrong. For once more, he leaned forward, fingers summoning their interest closer, regardless of whether they were in fact enraptured or had turned their thoughts toward pretending he was just a bad dream. Then he offered what he thought would be the resolution. “You want me to be quiet ?” he uttered in a low tone of apparent realisation. “I can be all kinds of quiet,” he assured them, in a hush, this time with a friendly wink. “Won’t see me, won’t hear me. Not if you turn around and watch the stage.” Would that not be a more pleasant conclusion for all involved ? He even pointed helpfully over their twin-turned shoulders toward the action on the stage beyond. “You don’t want to see how it ends ?” he wondered. Encouraged. Smiled. As his left hand sought out Seri’s right, and he settled back to make himself comfortable.

Assuming there was no reason why everyone else at hand would not do likewise themselves.

Tercen
Fifth Circle - White Tree Theatre
December 30th, evening

What if
Ava's suspicion, or fear, or whatever he was supposed to call it, turned out to be right? What if this man behind them was a spy for the priest? Something tightened in Tercen's chest as the thoguhts jumbled together in his head.

One part of him wanted to move Ava as far away from the stranger as he could - just in case the man was a spy and was thinking to harm her. That part of him would place himself firmly between her and the stranger. If only to be certain. If only until the threat had proved no threat at all, or until it had been neutralized. Another part of Tercen whispered that the exotic beauty who'd slipped her way into his heart was likely to put up a better fight against a spy than Tercen would himself. For while Tercen had received weapons training, that had been years ago - not to mention rather basic - and he had not exactly maintained those skills once the War had drawn to an end. Other than the strength of his muscles and his willingness to protect Ava, Tercen knew he had little to offer if it came down to a fight.

A third part of him figured that if the stranger behind them was indeed a spy, then it might be safer for everyone in the box if they simply played along until they left. If the spy did not know his cover was blown, would he not continue to do what he had been tasked with, after all? Watch and learn? If the man was a spy, and they did nothing, they could avoid an altercation altogether? The thought of a spy trying anything here, did not seem likely? Or did it? A fourth part of him insisted the man might be no more than exactly that. A man. And no spy at all. It was possible, wasn't it? That Ava's instincts were off? Didn't fear, or caution - or whatever, again with the semantics - make people see things, sometimes that weren't there?

Tercen was not used to being in such a position. A position that involved possible danger. Possible life-threatening danger. He was not used to quickly balancing out all the options, all the consequences, all the risks, and then making a quick decision and acting on it. He was no soldier. He was no ranger. He was no leader. Everything was whirling around in his head, but it left him more immobile rather than anything else. Unsure of what to act on.

So all he could do was watch and listen as Ava demanded of the man what he was doing. As the man in question remained seated on the floor and wiggled his finger at Ava before putting his coat on his seat and then reclaiming it himself. And then answering Ava by not answering at all. For he did not say what he had been doing on the floor. Perhaps, Tercen dimly noted, the coat had been involved? He hadn't seen it slip onto the floor, but the man had been handling it when he was down there. And why would a spy do such a 'notable' thing, anyway? Tercen blinked, trying to calm his mind. Trying to think of what his sister might do. He definitely noted the way the man took Seri's hand in his, and leaned back into his seat. To Tercen... none of his actions screamed 'spy'. Maybe... maybe he should just... maybe he should just try and... see?

Tercen swallowed back his insecurity and, despite the newcomer's strong suggestion, did not turn back toward the stage. "We were not exactly quiet either," he admitted with a little smile, and then shrugged at Gwestion, who was clearly paying attention to their exchange. "Sorry," Tercen mouthed at him, for the whole thing might be sullying the man's experience a little. "I'm Tercen," he then introduced himself to the stranger sitting by Seri's side, and he even turned a bit more to extend a hand to the man. Leaning his head forward a little, he added, managing to actually make it sound like he was genuinely amused and apologetic at the same time: "And I'm not the biggest play enthusiast in the city." Thus explaining why he was not simply following the man's suggestion of focusing on the play.

Gladhron | Gwestion
Ava, Seri, Brooke & Chewy
with Aislin, Arnyn, Tercen, & Domanol
White Tree Theater, Fifth Circle
December 30th, evening

Ava stared incredulously at the stranger when he replied that he was 'answering her question'. Was he actually being sarcastic? And at the same moment, she wondered whether she should have spoken to him at all, thus alerting him to the fact that she was aware of him here. But.. had he not spoken to her? Or.. had he spoken to Seri? She began to doubt herself now, wondering whether she had actually read more into this entire scenario than she should have. Yet, with all the things that had been discussed lately, with talk of spies and what she might return home to if word had leaked to Pharak about her being here, and who she had been talking to and so forth... could she really blame herself for feeling a bit edgy? After all, this man had to be the same one she had danced with at the masquerade. He had the same facial hair, the same accent, everything about him seemed the same, unless it was her imagination and paranoia playing tricks on her?

Even as she was struggling to make herself relax, and trying to decide whether there was really any immediate threat here, or not... the stranger beckoned her again. Her stomach twisted into knots, her chest tightening a little. What now? What was he planning to do? She did not lean closer as he indicated that she should, but continued to frown slightly at him. What was his game? What did he hope to accomplish by all of this? It didn't really make sense for him to show himself here, if he was a spy. So... was it all simply a misunderstanding? Perhaps he wasn't a spy? But... the coincidences seemed too uncanny. Right?

Even as he encouraged her and Tercen to return their attention to the stage, and Tercen himself began introducing himself to the stranger in that friendly manner of his... another startling fright presented itself, drawing a startled little half-gasp, half-yelp from Ava before she could stop herself.

Having found his person, one would think that Chewy would be content to sit there and enjoy her company. He did, for a few minutes. Then he became aware that someone had dropped something on the floor. And obviously, that meant that he had to go investigate! Maybe they'd dropped some food? He'd be doing them a favor by cleaning up such a spill, after all. So, down he hopped from his chosen chair, before Brooke could stop him, although she did attempt to hinder him by hastily throwing arms around his shoulders. This ended up with Brooke tumbling out of her seat and into the chair even as the dog expertly wriggled free of her grasp after licking her face until she moved her hands to try and block him. Then he happily trotted over to investigate whatever had been dropped.

There was an unknown woman there in his way, however, along with the man who had given him such a fun game of dart chasing. Chewy wagged his tail at him before sniffing at the unknown lady, since he'd have to squeeze between them to get to the dropped thing. She was not giving him her attention, however, and remained turned away facing Domanol. Thus, Chewy decided that drastic measures were called for, because he should be getting all of the attention. He put his paws up on her lap, to demand pets. When she let out a startled noise, Chewy tilted his head to the side in confusion. If a dog could look offended, he somehow managed it...

"I'm so sorry!" Brooke exclaimed in an anxious whisper, hastily getting up from the floor as quickly as she could, and hurried over to where Ava had suddenly found Brooke's dog halfway in her lap. "I'm sorry.. I'm really sorry," She repeated, while grabbing him by the collar.

Ava stared at the dog while Brooke dragged him off of her. "I..it's fine," She managed to say, heart racing as she recovered from the alarm of having a dog suddenly in her face. "Really," She managed a weak smile, a little more embarrassed by her own reaction, in fact, than anything.

"I had no idea he'd do that, I'm so sorry.." Brooke bit her lip, unsure what else to say, but she felt really bad, because it was her dog.

Letting out a slow breath, Ava shook her head slightly. "It isn't your fault," She assured her. "He only startled me, that's all."

Beside Dom, Seri had lost all track of what was going on down on stage, and stared with a slightly open mouth at what had just happened. It was like it had somehow, happened so fast that she couldn't have intervened, and yet at the same time, happened in slow motion. She was very relieved to hear their host say that it was alright, of course, but she immediately began trying to think of how to minimize the possibility of something like that happening again.

She glanced briefly at Dom, biting her lip.. honestly, this was getting a bit out of hand and she felt bad about it. She leaned forward, keeping her voice low, in hopes of not disturbing anyone down in the main audience. "Ms. Ava, I assure you, we're very sorry about this, I hope you aren't upset." She told Ava, despite hearing her tell Brooke that it was fine. "Brooke, do you have your leash with you?" She whispered, offering a little reminder to her niece.

Chewy was straining against Brooke's grip on his collar, trying to get another sniff at Ava. "Oh... um," She had sort of forgotten about that, since at home, she never carried a leash around. But, with Chewy all excited about what he perceived as some sort of game, she had difficulty digging into her bag to look.

Having decided that there was nothing to be concerned about, earlier, Gwestion had briefly returned his attention to the stage. But, of course, Ava's mini-shriek had immediately drawn his attention back. But, seeing what had startled the Umbarian woman, he ended up trying not to smile in amusement as he observed the chaos. Until Brooke began trying to look for a leash. "Here, let me hold him." Gwestion spoke up in a whisper, stepping carefully over Gladhron's legs, then passed the two empty chairs that Brooke and Chewy had vacated, and went to aid Brooke in holding her dog while she searched for a leash.

Ava's half gasp, half yelp, pulled at the edge of her consciousness. Even if Arnyn wasn't as deeply asleep as she would be in her own house, in her own bed, she was still exhausted enough for her subconsciousness to choose and ignore the bit of commotion in their box. She shifted a little against Gladhron even as Gwestion stepped over his brother's legs, but she did not wake. Gladhron's head resting on hers limited her moving her head, which instead had her moving her left hand over to the right as she let out a deeper breath and settled back into the rare quiet sleep offered her mind. Her hand ended up somewhere half on Gladhron's lower arm and half on his upper leg. Not that she had any idea of that.

Domanol Raxëlilta
Seated in the Balcony with ‘the group’, at the White Tree Theatre
Fifth Circle. Evening, 30th December

Domanol could not really disagree with the blonde man’s admission, that the couple in front had not been exactly ‘quiet’ either. And as this ‘Tercen’ introduced himself and confided his somewhat dulled intrigue in the players on stage, Domanol could not really blame him for that. After all, it was not those on stage below who had tempted him here tonight either. So he had gotten as far as tilting his head toward considering the offered hand, when the woman .. who had left all of the talking to her apparent partner .. suddenly showcased even further noise making. And this time it was not he that had inspired her outcry.

It ought to have occurred to Domanol perhaps that Chewy would be unable or unwilling to sit still and quiet during the performance. It seemed to be impossible even for those who should recognise the rules of the place, to obey them. And maybe the dog had only come over to investigate what all the noise was about, perhaps in his dog mind to even warn them all to quiet down ?

The outcome was the same. But as everybody took turns in apologising and dismissing each others’ apologies, Domanol matched Seri only in trying to keep a straight face. It was growing intolerably difficult to do so, under the circumstances. And honestly he never would have expected for a night at the theatre to be quite this entertaining.

It was no surprise at all that Gwestion was the one to step up in hopes of returning to order. And yet Dom found his own hands heading for his coat pockets, in a want to help. But this was not his coat and therefore not his pockets, and there was nothing remotely useful within.

You could use this, if you want,” he suggested, to the younger man in a hush that he recalled the need for and employed, only half way through the offer. “Could swaddle him somewhat maybe ? Though that might start him whining ..” he supposed, with no mind over what a mess that might make of the coat until he had already offered. But nobody else about seemed to have even such a resource to hand. Really, had they all run from a carriage to the theatre ? Or was everyone cold blooded and not even brought a wrap ?

At least all of the excitement with the dog had stolen some of the awkward atmosphere that froze between him and the startled woman. Ava. He had noted Seri name the stranger. So he now knew everybody’s names. It hardly seemed the time to introduce himself however, As far as first impressions went, associating his forever with this moment might not be the best way to be recalled ever after.

Aislin
White Tree Theatre
December 30, evening

Aislin had responded with an eager nod and a hearty smile to Ava's asking if she could see the stage well; besides, she had an excellent view not only of that, but also a part of people seated down in the main hall, and she could look at how they were dressed before the lights went dim and she turned her full attention to the play. Soon she found herself engrossed in the story played out on the stage and had lost the sense of time and place until commotion began in their small seating area.

Distracted, the girl looked to find that Chewy had somehow managed to find his way here, apparently along with Gwandhyra, as she concluded from his looming figure and quiet voice. The pair of them seemed to be the culprit, causing the disturbance which others then joined.

"Shhh!" Aislin tried to make them tone down their hustle and bustle, and then decided it was easier to focus back on the play and try to ignore them rather than get everyone to be quiet.

Tercen
Fifth Circle - White Tree Theatre
December 30th, evening

Ava's reaction to Chewy startled Tercen, and he was distracted entirely from Domanol by - first of all - that very response, and - second of all - Chewy himself, and - thirdly - Brooke's intervention. In an attempt to help settle Ava down, whether from the surprise Chewy bestowed upon her, or from the possible embarrassment of her reaction to the dog, Tercen put a reassuring hand on Ava's arm. He still wasn't sure what to make of the man behind them, but at least he knew everything happening with Chewy and Brooke was entirely innocent. It was a welcome distraction for him, really, and even more so because he was not at all involved in any of the forthcoming apologies.

He had been about to glance to the stranger behind them, trying to see if they had any common ground - for the man had not actually responded to him at all earlier, but whether that was due to the distraction Chewy had provided or a different reason, Tercen was not savvy enough to tell. The stranger in question invited attention himself, though, by suggesting Gwestion use his coat to... what? Swaddle the dog? Tercen almost choked on his own saliva, vividly imagining Gwestion sitting in one of the chairs with a swaddled Chewy in his arms, as if the dog were a baby.

Tercen had to lift his hand to his mouth, to cough a few times, and clear his airway. In the meantime, he was trying to be as quiet as he could about it - for Aislin's emphatic 'shhh!' reminded him that two of their group were actually asleep - and he knew his sister could probably use the shuteye. Even if her chosen locale to actually get it was kind of dumb...
