Well that was a very successful guess. Thank you for the link which I skim read at speed as usual, whilst delirious with tiredness, but I got talking ship cat. Now installed in the library.
I shall go and find a nice library book and the talking cat.
The Adamanta Chubb Librarian
Saranna was sitting in her study, quietly contemplating, as she so often did, the multiplicity of tasks in which she ought to be engaging; a pile of aged tomes that needed examining for damage repair, an empty teapot that needed refilling, a plan for regression to the Third Age - Hmmm, that was likely to be a long and hard task, so she went to put the kettle on, almost tripping over Nukomtdeaapuitdemouw as she went.
Once supplied with fresh tea, she hoped, her thought processes might become more focused and efficient. Or not. She drifed off into thinking about the notion of 'Silence in the Library.' Where did the idea come from? Was it really necessary? Did any Librarians and library users ever actually obey the plethora of signs urging them to silence?
And could the rule of silence ever be enforced? Probably not, in a library where a talking cat lived, and where a Dragon so often clattered into the Towers, beating his enormous wings.
Shaking her head, she scribbled a note to remind herself to ask @VelvetineZone and @Chrysophylax Dives thought about the matter.
Then she made another cup of tea, and began to read ........

@Saranna, esteemed Librarian of Elostirion, Greetings!
You are most kind to invite the thoughts of myself and @VelvetineZone on silence and the library, but I must warn you that your fellow librarian is broigus with me. For some reason, I have offended her - possibly by criticism of a LotR read through and/or other. I am sorry that I am once again calling on you to make peace between myself and other plaza members, but honestly it is not me! I am always nice and polite, to everyone! It is just that people have very thin skins. Possibly, you might ask her - in the nicest but firmest librarian manner - not to take offence all the time?
Also, could you thank her from me for the badger thing?
Thank you!

As a librarian who's been asked by library patrons to please shh, I'm not the best at enforcing silence. Laughing face emoji.
Dragon, I'm not offended! That was ages ago. I already explained I was just frustrated that I couldn't delete the thread. Why am I here interacting if I'm so thin skinned and offended?? And why are you trying to unoffend people by suggesting that they're thin skinned, and prolonging a state of offendedness instead of leaving it and moving on. I'm too knackered from laundry and feeding and all to have time to maintain that much offendedness, particularly with pesky troublesome dragons who think they're nice and polite. P.s. Have I stopped being relegated to some Roadrunner category yet?
Saranna, I definitely don't think we can enforce silence. Except maybe for dragons. Winking face emoji.
Also I'm bored of being a Hobbit. I would like to be an Elf now. Not a very highbrow floaty one though, more of an adventuring one, maybe part ethereal elf, part wild ranger.
And now I shall read quietly with the cat, as even librarians can be quiet sometimes.

Please could you change back my pic @Chrysophylax Dives.

As in, maybe if I could I would; but I cannot. Alas, I have not that power.
Maybe I would not. I don't see what is so wrong with learning about TV cultures of long ago. If you are bored with Hobbits maybe a Roadrunner is the next step?

@VelvetineZone, if you wish to change from a Hobbit to an Elf, and if you do not like the TV icon, I am not the person to talk to. This above is from the OP = Opening Post, which sets the rules of the particular thread (this one).Chrysophylax Dives wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2024 3:42 pm The Adamanta Chubb Librarian is the mistress of Elostirion, the great Library of Undertowers housed on the Hill on which stands the tallest and most western of the three Elf-towers of the Westmarch. The proper name of the Librarian is @Saranna, and her word on this thread is law and lore.
The thread is open to all who care to visit the Library. When this thread began we envisaged the Library with two external doors on the ground, but events involving our first visit left the tower without its original external staircase. These are how the towers look at present.*
All and any disputes on rules are decided by @Saranna, the Adamanta Chubb Librarian.
