Already the Ring tempted him, gnawing at his will and reason. Wild fantasies arose in his mind; and he saw Samwise the Strong, Hero of the Age, striding with a flaming sword across the darkened land, and armies flocking to his call as he marched to the overthrow of Barad-dur. And then all the clouds rolled away, and the white sun shone, and at his command the vale of Gorgoroth became a garden of flowers and trees and brought forth fruit. He had only to put on the Ring and claim it for his own, and all this could be.
@VelvetineZone, @Periantar, @The Good Hunter

You have all volunteered for the magic post office quest. Thank you. As explained, I ended up delivering the letter myself. However, now I have the idea of a Great Plaza Post Office Quest, a hunt for Golden Eggs laid by a real dragon (myself). Unfortunately, I am still trying to get the eggs fertilized, and until I find a suitable necromancer volunteer this quest will have to wait (no point seeking non-fertilized eggs, the whole point is to get your hands on an egg that will hatch!!)

In the meanwhile, given Mordor is so desolate, anybody want to start a small Hobbit garden-allotment in Goblin country? There might be wraith-badgers.
Eat earth. Dig deep. Drink water.

Periantar sits, listening to, of all creatures, a librarian Dragon who was short sighted and suffering a distinct lack of necromancer.
"Well, I have always wished to see for myself, the great Argonath of the Anduin, and walk through the beauty that is Ithilien. I suppose a short stop off at Mordor might not be a bad thing. Shall we simply walk into Mordor might I ask?" *stifles a self-satisfied chuckle*
"Just let me consult some of gardening lore." *takes from his satchel a thick volume, 'The Subtle Art of Gardening: written by Mr Chobobble and Mrs Cherry-Blossom Sodfoots-feet.' Peri flicks through, back and forth in earnest.*
"Ahh, yes good Sir Dives, I think this is something I may wish to do."
*loveliness returns the book to his satchel*
Periantar:
I am a multi facited hobbit, for I am a gardener;
a leader, hobbit second regiment of the HDS;
and fireworks meister of TISAPA.

Can I find time in the busy whirl of the exciting reality of my daily life to set up an imaginary hobbit garden with wraith badgers? Checks today's plans: laundry, cooking, washing up, trying to get the kids out, giving the cat medication at midnight. OK, that's a YES then.

Is there a hobbit left in Middle Earth? Yes, there is! And since the Shire is awfully empty, she is more active elsewhere.
But if hobbits return... this post will help them find her. Just tag me in your message and I will welcome you home!

Hello Shire-folk! Figure this is probably the best thread to pop in and announce that I have joined your little kingdom. Back on the old Plaza you needed a certain amount of points before you could move on from being a new soul, if I remember correctly. Kids these days on the NuPlaza have it easy! I have slipped in the door with a whopping total of 0 points and am now a hobbit child, ready to marvel at Gandalf's fireworks.

Joining the Shire this time around was an easy pick. As a kid obsessed with the PJ films, it was the heroes of Rohan and Gondor that I was enamored with. As an adult who has reengaged with Tolkien's world, it's the hobbits that have captured my heart through and through. Sam Gamgee has usurped Théoden King as whom I would name if I had to pick a favorite character from the Lord of the Rings. If I were dropped into Middle Earth, there's no doubt I'd be a hobbit. I love good food, good drink, pipe-weeds of different varieties, and I quite literally have hair on a few of my toes. I'm a simple bloke with a love of plants and things that grow.

More specifically, I think I'd be one o' them queer folk from Buckland. One, for the aspect of counter culture relative to those stuck-up hobbits of the Westfarthing (no offense), but more importantly because of my appreciation for rivers. I'm a hydrologist IRL, so while I like my garden, it's flowing waters that are my domain. I'm a river hobbit, pushing through the reeds along the banks of the Brandywine in my small boat, hoping to catch tonight's dinner. This is the type of hobbit character that I have in mind if I ever try some RP (which I probably won't, but we'll see).

Anyways, I'm 33 this year, the year that hobbits come of age, so I think it's fitting that this is the same year I become a hobbit on the NuPlaza.

I believe @Eamila Bolger wants me to tag her in my message.

Tobold: True that was before joining any kingdom. I believe it was a kind of setup to explore first before settling on an area you wanted to join. But with the knowledge halls it was easy to have the points to join the same day if you wanted and was quick to make them. I was first member in Imladris, then Gondor for a little while and finally Lothlorien. After the hack in 2018 the site was lost, part of us created an alternative in early 2018 where we dwelt for a few years, before somewhere in 2021 this site was established. That alternative Rivvy's place is still around. Most of us came online by the movies at the time, me included. But long before I read the books. Still welcome back online. *g*

Eamila: I do have a Hobbit character: Nora Shortbranch. :nod:
Just call me Aiks or Aikári. Notify is off.
Find me stuff in Gondolin.
And let us embark to Valinor!

This hack sounds crazy. That's really too bad, but glad it was sorted out.

I am so sorry I never responded to this @Tobold ! My deepest apologies. Since there's almost no activity in the Shire, I spend most my Plaza time in other places.
So you go back to the old plaza as well! Who were you, in those days?
I had no idea about that hack either. How terrible, so many good things were lost...

I love your description of how you are now, at this age, feeling you fit in the Shire. Same here, although I am a good deal older. I was 26 when I joined the Plaza back in 2002..
I hope to see you around!
