Westmarch Huorn Farm

Growing food and eating it occupied most of their time.

Welcome to our secret hourn-breeding farm, hidden away in the Westmarch and of very dubious Lore. Those who wish to learn more about huorn eggs may inquire within. Simply stick your head down the hole and shout for help. Within moments of your call a couple of security huorns will appear from behind and either push you into the hole or send you on your way. If you find yourself at the bottom of the hole we will endeavour to assist you with any inquiries.

If you wish to purchase some huorn eggs please make sure to have something to barter in your pocket.

Why are you breeding trees in a hole in the ground? Are these a different kind of creature than the tree-like ent-like Hourn? Did I miss something? I might have. I have been a little flighty lately since the spring.

As the Dwarf was kneeling on the ground with head in hole shouting out questions about huorn-breeding, Teykh Shretl and Zaydike Gandz, the two huorns on security duty, looked at one another and, as one, nodded. The huorns gave the Dwarf a gentle shove, and the Dwarf tumbled into the hole.

Hello Dwarf.

Everything inside the hole was dark. Yet the Dwarf recognized that voice. Something twitched deep in a Dwarvish mind - a memory, of another hole in the ground, far, far, away, where Gollums chewed rocks seeking nuggets of gold.

The Dragon!

Yes @Drifa. I have been awaiting you for some while.

Welcome to our huorn farm, the origins of which you would know had you paid just a little more attention to the various court cases of the plaza. It was an ill wind, that court case. Incomplete and unconcluded. Yet out of it grew all the wealth of the Westmarch.

If you wish, Dwarf, you may clamber back out of the hole that you were dropped into and run back to your dark mines to the East.

But maybe we might walk together to the other end of this dark hole? Then, when you have passed by in darkness the illegal Lore that is the foundation of the wealth of the Westmarch and been amazed, perhaps we might discuss the mutual benefits that may arise out of a trade deal and alliance between Khazad-dûm and Orthanc?

Drifa, let me come straight to the point. Would you be willing to design some new Rohan postal stamps? We are looking for stamps that represent our desire in Rohan for peace between neighbours, so basically stamps with the white hand of Saruman; but the tower of Orthanc with a wizard atop controlling the weather would also work, or the king of Rohan on the external steps of Orthanc making peace with the owners of Orthanc - that would be a pretty nifty postal stamp for the Edoras postal office.

What do you say? We could pay in huorn eggs and offer the friendship of both Orthanc and the Rohan post office.

'Oi!' Drifa called out as she was shoved inside the hole by two tree-like beings. Tumbling into the darkness, she came to a halt and heard a voice she recognized and words that only caused her to grow wary.
'Dragon? Is that you? You devilish worm! Confound you? I know nothing of court cases and eggs. My time is spent creating, not plotting. What illegal Lore of the Westmarch? Speak in plain words to me!'

As she waited for a response, she imagined herself tucking her beard into her belt, scrambling out of the hole and running. She could not help but note the sound of something not right in what she detected in the dragon's voice, and suddenly, a strange image scuttled into her mind's eye.

Typical. As I explained it all clearly and cogently you were talking over me with a picture!

So the long and the short concerns postal stamps, as set out in the (edited) post above. We can show you the huorn farm, but it is illegal and top-secret and so we would have to blindfold you. But the huorns will let you go if you agree to the Rohan stamps.

But @Drifa, in addition to the friendship of Elostirion and Orthanc, the two towers, we maybe could manage also one of those three Rings of the Dwarf-sires of old if you came up with a Rohan post office banner.

My vision for the Rohan post office banner: the white horse of Rohan, the black tower of Orthanc, and a white hand between them as a symbol of peace between horse and tower.

Sigh. I guess I should have put more definite rules in my OP. I don't really see how you can complain about being pushed into a hole by two security huorns given the OP. But I see that you are not happy with it all, so I will explain about the huorns because this also touches on my plaza art competition entry.

Some years ago, a party headed East from the Shire in search of forgotten Lore. Where they ended up and who they talked to it is perhaps better not to go into. It is enough to note that the darkest Lore of Middle-earth concerns generation, the making of Orcs and other fell beings by terrible magic. Our Shire party returned with the knowledge of how to fuse trees and birds, generating huorns that lay eggs within nests within their branches. There are many, many varieties of such cross-breed huorn because you can take any kind of tree and any type of bird and fuse them.

The wealth of the Westmarch is founded on our huorn-egg harvests. From the profits we support our Library and its extensive program of acquisitions. However, as the whole business is very dark and dubious and the kind of thing that we might get in trouble for doing in the Shire, we keep everything out of sight down this dark hole - which you have just been pushed into by two of our houorns.

I was going to offer you a tour of the huorn-breeding farm. But I have been told that your security clearnance is not high enough. Still, do feel free to ask any questions.
