Name: Haarith Gimlân.

Physical Appearance: Descended of King’s Men Númenorean stock, Haarith is tall and grey-eyed, with an olive complexion and a slender build. Often found wearing flowing robes of white, beige, or black hues. As a token of his immense wealth, Haarith is often found wearing medallions upon his breast and rings fitted with gemstones upon each hand.

Personality: An accumulator of wealth, Haarith is analytical in thought and dry of speech. He has a quick mind for mathematics, though beneath this exterior of numbers and wealthy façade, he is deeply committed to the Temple of Zigûr, the Wizard-King of Lugbúrz and is a leading figure in terms of donations and renovations to the local shrines within Umbar and nearby localities. Alongside his rooted fanaticism is a deeply held disgust of the nimrubên, the elf-servants of Gondor, whom he holds responsible for the downfall of the legendary Yôzâyan. Not personally a warrior, Haarith prefers to pay and employ others to do his fighting, while leading and advising from the shadows.

Biography: Haarith was born a legitimate son of the ancient lineage of Gimlân, who’s origins are found in the legendary past of the Second Age colonization of the Firth of Umbar and the surrounding regions. The family was deeply immersed in the arts and traditions of the King’s Men faction of Númenor, worshipping and becoming enamoured of the dark as preached by Zigûr and his servants. For countless centuries, the family has been a backer of the rulers of Umbar, whether it be local Umbarin rule, Haradrim leadership, or even in the tenures of Gondorian rule over Umbar. Sometimes warriors, sometimes enslavers, sometimes merchant princes, the Gimlân family has always found it’s wealth and influence through the power of silver and gold, whether by sale of commodity, strength of arms, or the trafficking of slaves.

In the last years of the Third Age, the recent scions of House Gimlân have been staunch supporters of the living God-Emperor and Wizard-King, Zigûr, helping to propagate His ideals and influence amongst the locals of Umbar and even abroad against His enemies. Haarith was indoctrinated from an early age to despise and hold in contempt the elf-servants of Gondor, forever deemed his mortal enemies to the utmost end. Haarith’s father himself was slain upon Thorongil’s raid on Umbar, with Haarith coming to inherit and command the tremendous wealth of his family’s name, which he put to immediate use to strengthen the defenses and armies of Umbar. While not serving in any command capacity, he has used his wealth to outfit many ships, whether for raid, war, or enslavement.

Both his father and mother come from Black Númenorean stock, as much as remained in those later days of the Third Age, though there is much local Haradrim blood in his lineage too. However, he deems himself as having gotten the best of both worlds. All victims of Gondorian imperialism of the last three millennia should be united in common effort to stave off and defeat the poison of elven influence in their lands and even abroad. Zigûr worship has proven to be the most unifying concept in achieving this goal, with Haarith at an early age serving as an acolyte in the local temples, to using his family wealth to fund and enlarge temple holdings across Umbar.

With his investment in raiding and enslaving upon Gondor shores booming in the years prior to the War of the Ring, Haarith has utilized his wealth in enlarging his family estate. He has a hold or silent investment in many markets, such as the farming of cedar trees for use in Umbarin shipmaking, the ownership of auction blocks for the movement of slaves captured in raids, to more benign commodities such as olive farms, date trees, carpet weaving, incense processing, and the harvesting of myrrh for use in temple rituals. He commands and oversees many estates across the Firth, though with such a vast merchant empire, Haarith cannot be everyone at once, right?

In recent years, as the War against the traitorous nimrubên intensifies, Haarith looks to build and foster relationships with all the war chiefs of Umbar and Harad, whether on land or by sea, attempting to have his hand in as many pockets as possible to earn the greatest return on his generous outpouring of coin into their militant activities. And those who fail, and cannot pay their debts to him, Haarith always finds a way to make a return, whether by seizure of assets to pay off what is owed…or to seize the person themself, and make a sale on them, and their families, into slavery. Like the dark master he serves and worships, Haarith has no mercy for failures, even those of his own kin and kind. And the market places and auctioneer blocks are full of tales of Haarith’s ruthlessness in selling off his own failed subordinates.

• History and Biography •

Gilrénna was born in the winter of the year 76 of the Fourth Age on the Hanavía estate in Minhiriath on the coast of Cardolan west of the Port of Lond Daer. Her grandmother Rosmarin was granted this estate by King Aragorn when he came and settled affairs in the north after the great war of the ring. Rosmarin's heritage had been recorded to be of the lineage of Cardolanion royalty of old, having lineage to Cäontar, second son of King Eärendur of Arnor and the first King of Cardolan. King Aragorn based his decision on various records contained in the Library of Imladris and the Archives of the Library of Gondor.

After Hanasían and Rosmarin passed, the estate was divided amongst their children with the house and surrounding lands given to Gilrénna's uncle Hanavía who was the eldest. But Hanavía had no desire to live there, instead opting to go to live in Rivendell, and he passed possession to the 2nd-oldest, her mother Elían. Gilrénna was Elían’s 1st-born child, and she has a younger sister named Gilraena and a younger brother named Hanílas. Elían bore all three of her children at the estate, and though Gilrénna would ask at times, Elían was never clear as to who her father was, for she spoke not of him. This would remain a secret until after Elían passed, for she had recorded the events of her life in a book she wrote.

From a young age, Gilrénna had shown skill in her calligraphy and artwork, and she took keen interest in the history of her family. So it was a joy when she discovered several journals and parchments stowed away in the wine cellar written by her grandfather Hanasían. With the reading, restoration, and preservation of these writings, Gilrénna ordered cataloged the writings, and made copies of her family history. It was quite by accident that she discovered a cipher written in many of the parchments, and it explained why Hanasían would leave some lines shorter than others. Once she realized the patterns, she went back and made notes of what was hidden in the writings. It was fascinating, but it made little sense and Gilrénna was sure there was a missing link she had yet to discover.

But life slowed for nobody, and in time Gilrénna fell in love with a young Dúnedain soldier from the line of Halbarad that she had met at the markets in Lond Daer. After a year of courtship, she agreed to marry him.

History & Biography
Life Summary

Hanasían, along with his twin sister Halcwyn, were born in the wild near Lake Evendim in the year TA 2990. He was the second of three children of Halasían, Ranger of the North, and Lady Forcwyn of Rohan. His younger twin sister Halcwyn was born later on the same day. Their brother Hayna was much older, and Hanasían would not meet him until the battle of the Corsairs in the War of the Ring. With the birth of the twins, there was hope that his father and mother would heal many wounds between each other. But the darkness that held Halasían had not let go of him. It only went to sleep for a time. One day he came back from hunting with worry, and he gathered what little they had and made their way to Rivendell where his wife and two children were allowed to pass, but he was not. Elrond had not forgiven him of his excesses in battle, and Halasían said goodbye to his family and was never seen again.

Hanasían was raised in Rivendell for a time, for though Forcwyn desired to return to her people in Rohan, travel was perilous, and she stayed until Hanasían was nine. He learned horsemen skill from her kin in Rohan and would return again to Rivendell some years later to study and learn the arts of the Elves and train. After a few years he started to ride with the Rangers. He was considered young of age, but the times were ever darkening, and it was deemed that the time spent in the field would be better training for the evil days to come. Hanasían learned much skill from the Rangers, of which many of the elder ones knew his father. During this time, he refined his skills of bowmanship and of stealth and evasive movement. He mastered these skills, and they would serve him well in the years to come.

Unlike his father, Hanasían was a relatively good-hearted man and would visit his mother Forcwyn and sister Halcwyn in Rohan whenever he had the chance. It never seemed enough.

Name: Cael (short for something no doubt but no one, not even Cael herself, knows what)
Age: Likely very old, but Cael has no memories further back than a century. Any time she tries to remember anything past this, she is highly susceptible to stroking out or an aneurysm. Given this setback, she's determined it's not worth looking into. Ineluctably, this means something from her forgotten past will arrive to ruin her good time.
Physical Appearance: Slender, almost bony, and gaunt, she has dark sea-grey eyes and wildly cut (shaved in a few places) hair of dark grey with random streaks of teal. She has high cheekbones and slightly sunken eyes, a perpetual, knowing smirk, and the barking laugh of a trickster. Her prized feature, however, is the dozen and a half piercings she's accumulated over the last century in a variety of places, in a variety of sizes, and a variety of decencies.
Biography: She doesn't remember anything past a century and has given up trying to discover who or what she was before that century. Dying is not something she's keen to tempt. Why bother when she's having a good time anyway? She a bard by trade, bouncing back and forth with dozen or so different troupes over the years. She plays the oud, an instrument she picked during a trip to Near Harad that had enough alcohol to drown a dozen rangers. Her favorite kinds of songs are the bawdy, immature kind. She's unwelcomed in most elven establishments due to her proclivities and chaotic, almost nihilistic nature. Even by the standards of the hardest partying elf of the Woodland Realm, Cael is crass. She's come to Minas Tirith to, well, she wants to be free to do what she wants to do, she wants to get loaded and she wants to have a good time. And that's what she's going to do. Rarely is Cael found distant from a bottle of spirits (the harder the better) or surrounded by a halo of fragrant cigarillo smoke.

Always a loyal Gondorian, Halvarin supported the Line of Kings even when that line was being called into question by most of the senior members of the Mariners Guild. When the Captains Guild eventually sided with the claims Castamir, the Master of Ships of Gondor, made denouncing the new king not long after the death of King Valacar. Halvarin did not immediately commit, saying that he was a Mariner of Gondor. As a navigator apprentice, he did his best to plot his course to stay clear of the shoals of rebellion that brewed within the Mariners Guild. He reluctantly sided with the Guild and his father, but did not disavow King Eldacar. When open rebellion came and Castamir demanded his officers swear allegiance to him as King, Halvarin had to choose which side of the chasm to keep his feet. Unfortunately, his father had decided for him when they moved on Edhellond, the home of his childhood friend, Amarwen.

Amarwen
(Gondorian Sindarin – Earth Maiden)

Image

Born: Third Age 1398, Edhellond
Heritage: Dúnedain
Height: 5’ 8”
Physique: Clean lines, curvaceous

Appearance: Blue black, glossy hair that falls straight to her hips, large clear grey eyes, fair skinned - Amarwen is a classically beautiful woman.

Skills: Amarwen is educated and trained in all the various arts a noblewoman is expected to have mastered. She dances well, plays a number of instruments, but does not sing. She is well and widely read, has studied the history of her people extensively and can speak several languages. She rides well, hawk and hunt, and has a skill with the bow (at the archery range). She most certainly is not a warrior and has received no martial instruction in combat or war. However, she has a sharp mind and this has been encouraged by her parents.

Character: Amarwen was a warm hearted, rambunctious and joyous child with an honest nature, largely innocent of the world. Amarwen has been raised to place her family ahead of herself. She is very easy to love but she is far from passive.

History: Amarwen is the only child of the Lord and Lady of Edhellond. She was born into a family distantly related to Eldacar through a daughter of Hyarmendacil, and she was cherished. Noble and wealthy, well loved by the people of Edhellond, Amarwen’s childhood is a happy and safe one. Her family enjoys the peace their life, retired from the royal court, affords them. They are far enough away from Osgiliath that the cut and thrust around Gondor’s throne little affects them.

All of this changes when Castamir usurps the throne and deposes Eldacar. Her father, having ridden out to support Gondor's king is taken captive as Eldacar flees in such haste that he cannot even take his son with him. The first Amarwen hears of this is when her mother received tidings in Edhellond that Osgiliath has burned.

In time, after the sack of Osgiliath a group of men arrive in Edhellond to demand fealty to Castamir and the re-opening of the important harbour. It is on this day that we meet Amarwen and it is a fearsome day indeed. Gondor is turned inside by the kinstrife. Kin turns against kin and friend against friend.

Cadil
Age (bracket): 20ish

Physical appearance: Cadil tends to look younger than his actual age with his mischievous, playful brown eyes and his short dark hair sticking out every which way. He is not overly tall, standing at about 5 feet 8. Since he has great trouble with saying no to any food, he can easily put on weight and grow soft and chubby; however, if he would put his mind and effort to it, he could easily turn the soft, plump body into lean and strong muscles.

Personality: Cadil is very friendly and open to anyone whoever pays any attention to him, he has a bubbly, easy-going personality, and can be awfully silly at times. It can appear that he handles things and life in general with irresponsible carelessness and does not put effort into anything. To a casual observer it may seem that there is not much to him beyond that careless and laid back attitude that he always shows off; yet there may be more to him than meets the eye.

Biography: Cadil comes from a relatively wealthy family, being the only child and seemingly spoiled to no end by his parents. His father deals with court and legal matters, while his mother is a housewife and makes sure their home and small garden on the third circle of the city are always kept in perfect order. When his parents pressed Cadil to try and do something with his life, he eventually joined the military, though he dropped out of it without achieving anything of note, mostly just getting into trouble of various kinds with officers and not being of much use. Left without a purpose, he gave himself to pub crawling, getting into occasional brawls and being generally lazy. While he may ignore the constant reminders of his parents that he should start his own life, since he can live at home and be supplied for without a care, he still feels the nagging need to be useful even though he had been able to silence it this far. Perhaps the change of environment and meeting friends other than drinking buddies in pubs would help him make better choices.
