Yeah, I see what you mean now, @Aeros, about Celebrimbor. I think they nailed the demeanor, his motivations and ambitions, but the appearance doesn't fit with his backstory. They've gone with like an older "mad scientist" look. While Celebrimbor, in my imagination, wouldn't have Feanor's fiery temperament, he's still a rebel that joined in the exile from Valinor.

I think I saw you guys discussing Theo. One thing that stood out to me on my second watch. The kid in the tavern when we first meet Ismael Cordova says "When our true king returns," or something. So maybe Theo is a sort of true king of prophesy. Which would be cool because the Nazgul were supposed to be kings of men.

I think you might be onto something there @Lokktar. The show has been quite heavy with foreshadowing thus far. I hadn't made that connection until you pointed it out and now it feels almost obvious. This makes me wonder who his father was and why he ran off. And if anyone can remind me, whose barn was it that Theo found the broken sword? Was it his mother's or someone else's?

I've never seen him that way, I'm partial to a bookish introvert with jeweler's loupes permanently attached to his head, but I don't think that invalidates how you see him.

Conanbrimbor is my new favourite thing, although I’m slightly alarmed by the apparently naked dwarf who is squatting in the top right, watching him with a very menacing gaze. Surely in a forge you should be wearing heavy protective gear, no??

-That's Elendil on the boat who is greeting Galadriel and Halbrand
-Halbrand is Theo's runaway father
-Meteor man is the balrog. Fire did not seem to effect him. Wings disintegrated on the fall down to Middle-earth.

Honestly the shirtlessness and the sleevelessness of EVERY image in the forges has always bothered me as a person that actually had smithed and welded. Like welding has the least spatter and slag but like.... I've only dealt with welding gloveless twice and I did not like it I did not like it at all and generally it was done because my dad was pulling a 'do you want it fixed or not cause if not I'm not bringing the mobile welder back.' and telling me to hold the pieces of metal in place and don't move to reassemble things that I had him cut apart so they were easier to move 6 hours.
Blessedly he was just tacking so I only had minor sparks and no slag burns but those stung enough.
I WANT BURNS ON THESE BEGGARS.

Also after watching this for the umpteenth time (I feel like I'm gonna watch this entire series every week...)

I figured out why I dislike Elrond in this as much as I do after a FB chat with PG.... And it's because he's being manipulative. Or at least it's reading as manipulation instead of sincerity with Durin. He is being the perfect guest agreeing to everything that During has said after finding out why Durin is upset and the Disa invites him for dinner and flat out overrules Durin and then at the most opportune time for Elrond, and most inopportune time for Durin Elrond announces he's going and makes a big scene about imposing and Disa can tell Durin not happy and etc.



Also the pompadour haircuts are meh. I LIKE Arondirs cut I like the short but curly other elf commanders hair cuts etc.. it's the pompadours I get they are in a way a period hair cut but I feel it's not far enough back period wise for me? I'd probably accept friar bowlcut mullets easier than pompadours

While I can see where that particular conclusion came from, I don't quite see that scene the way you do. Take it with a grain of salt though because I've only seen the episode once (once the entire thing airs I'll watch it again to give a true, full Frostian analysis), but it felt to me like Durin wanted to be upset and have his tantrum at Elrond, but Elrond was so apologetic that his anger didn't have the power he thought it would have had. And the more I see images and watch the show, the more I'm on board with these new fantasy haircuts, men need more style options!

Also, @Boromir88, regarding you newest siggie, I think it's amazing that Robert Aramayo played a young Ned Stark in a flashback, an even deeper link between Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings

That's a good point @Fuin Elda. Elrond was described as a "politician" in one of the articles prior to the show coming out, and he was called one in Episode 1, by Galadriel. I disliked hearing Elrond described as a politician, because it has such a negative connotation (as well as just being a word that doesn't seem to fit in Middle-earth). I would say, he was being manipulative with Galadriel as well, in convincing her to get on the boat. Because Gil-galad came by to tell him "you did the right thing" by convincing her to go. Politician just sounds slimy. They need more of his role as being Gil-galad's herald in the Second Age. More speech writing scenes! I will say though, I think one of the strongest scenes in the show was the elevator conversation with Durin. His reaction to "20 years? That's all it's been" was perfect to give an elvish perspective on time, and why Durin was so upset with him.

@Metatron Omega I knew he played Ned Stark but didn't make that connection until you brought it up!
