This is a theoretical of course... If the movie was never made back then but was being made today, who would you cast for the roles?

Arwen - Biatriz (Bia) Arantes
Galadriel - Amber Heard
Eowyn - Rachael Taylor
Now for the guys:
Saruman - Sam Elliot
Faramir - Jordan Patrick Smith
Theoden - Linus Roache
Denethor - Lothaire Bluteau
Frodo - David Lindström

I'm not the most up-to-date on who's trendy in the film and tv industry anymore. I love watching old films, but don't keep up what's playing in theaters like I used to.
I did go see the Dune remake recently, primarily because I loved the first novel and the 80s movie was a disaster. I couldn't imagine how the remake could be worse and I did enjoy it. I think give Jason Momoa a sword and it instantly makes a movie better and Josh Brolin was a perfect Gurney (although I'm not sure Brolin would fit in any LOTR role). The other difficulty I'm having is it's hard to imagine other actors and actresses in an LOTR remake (at least at this time). I mean, Ian McKellan is Gandalf, Sean Bean is Boromir, Viggo Mortensen is Aragorn and I can't imagine other people in many of those key roles. Perhaps many years from now that will change.
If I recall correctly, Sam Neill was considered for the role of Gandalf and I think that fits better for him now than it did 20 years ago.
I also like Derek Jacobi in everything and I can picture him as Saruman and Sam Elliot is a good shout.
The Green Knight is probably one of the best made films I've seen in a long time and Sean Harris' portrayal of "the King" was great. I'd be interested to see him play Theoden.

Thanks Boromir88 for replying to this. I too had to go see Dune on the big screen, and was mildly impressed with it. Jason Momoa and a sword works on so many levels. I think with a more accurate screenplay that doesn't emasculate a core part of the story and of a few of the characters, it would be pretty good. I have tossed this out a few places around the webz and have gotten some really interesting picks once I weeded out the random derogatory 'political woke' comments (yes, there is at least one on every site) and the Peter Jackson-worshipping crowd who refuse to imagine anything different. I've got some updates for my list of actors for the characters I'll edit into my first post and am working on compiling an overall list with all the character references.

As long as you don't do my boys Denethor and Faramir as dirty as PJ did I would be happy.
Personally I think you cast Frodo too young. PJ did that too and I didn't like it. Frodo is the same age as Bilbo (50) when Bilbo goes on his adventure in TH, and I think Martin Freeman was much more age-appropriately cast. I didn't like that Frodo was practically a teenager in the films, he's not supposed to be.

I'm having a hard time coming up with someone to play Samwise Gamgee. It's really hard to beat Sean Astin's performance, and the character screenplay was pretty good. Still giving him some more thought...

I have to say, you're choice for Theoden was inspired! Linus Roache was one of the best casting choices Vikings ever made.
In general I am terrible with coming up with "prospective cast lists" but I think Rosamund Pike would be terrific as Galadriel. She was fantastic in Gone Girl with a very ageless quality to her.
