War Of The Dwarves And The Orcs - Early Morning Scrimmage

And of old it was not darksome, but full of light and splendour, as is still remembered in our songs.

War Of The Dwarves And The Orcs - Early Morning Scrimmage
Character Elimination
When Thrór came to Moria the Gate was open. Nár begged
him to beware, but he took no heed of him, and walked proudly
in as an heir that returns. But he did not come back. Nár stayed
near by for many days in hiding. One day he heard a loud shout
and the blare of a horn, and a body was flung out on the steps.
Fearing that it was Thrór, he began to creep near, but there
came a voice from within the gate:
'Come on, beardling! We can see you. But there is no need
to be afraid today. We need you as a messenger.'
Then Nár came up, and found that it was indeed the body
of Thrór, but the head was severed and lay face downwards. As
he knelt there, he heard orc-laughter in the shadows, and the
voice said:
'If beggars will not wait at the door, but sneak in to try thieving,
that is what we do to them. If any of your people poke their foul
beards in here again, they will fare the same. Go and tell them
so! But if his family wish to know who is now king here, the
name is written on his face. I wrote it! I killed him! I am the
master!'
Then Nár turned the head and saw branded on the brow in
Dwarf-runes so that he could read it the name A Z O G. That name
was branded in his heart and in the hearts of all the Dwarves
afterwards. Nár stooped to take the head, but the voice of Azog¹
said:
'Drop it! Be off! Here's your fee, beggar-beard.' A small bag
struck him. It held a few coins of little worth.
Weeping, Nár fled down the Silverlode; but he looked back
once and saw that Orcs had come from the gate and were hacking
up the body and flinging the pieces to the black crows.
Such was the tale that Nár brought back to Thráin; and when
he had wept and torn his beard he fell silent. Seven days he sat
and said no word. Then he stood up and said: 'This cannot be
borne!' That was the beginning of the War of the Dwarves and
the Orcs, which was long and deadly, and fought for the most
part in deep places beneath the earth.

make no beautiful things, but they make many clever ones.
They can tunnel and mine as well as any but the most skilled
dwarves, when they take the trouble, though they are usually
untidy and dirty. Hammers, axes, swords, daggers, pick-

well, or get other people to make to their design, prisoners
and slaves that have to work till they die for want of air
and light....

¹It is said that Thorin's shield was cloven and he cast it away and
he hewed off with his axe a branch of an oak and held it in his left hand

Liggin wiped the sweat from his eyes. The sun had not broken over the horizon yet. The diamond dew still covered the green valley along with the red blood and greyish guts from the battle. Having been called to arms when it was still dark, the young dwarf felt a chill on his neck as he stopped to get his breath, the breeze drying his sweat. It would be a long day. Hefting his axe, he charged back in and swung at the first orc his weapon reached.

Urgi, the best damn mama bear that ever climbed a tree, was in no mood to deal with orcs this morning, or dwarves either for that matter. Normally, she was a friend to the little hairy folk, but they were getting too damn noisy with their axe throwing this morning. One of her cubs might clamber out of the cave and, lured by the raucous sounds of day drunk dwarves, might wonder into the line of fire. She was not having that today! She extended her claws and roared.

Fali for her part was a bit confused about what exactly was happening as she came blinking out of the dwarven mines onto the mountain side . It didn't take her long though to catch sight of Liggin and gave her fellow dwarf a nod. "A good day for Orc hewing I think" She called and hefted up her axe and swung hard.

Liggin lower his head quickly to avoid a blow from the orc, who swung a curved blade in a wide arc towards his neck. This orc was quite nimble on their feet for an orc. The dwarf suddenly realized why. It was a female orc. So the scum was training the females now, like the dwarven females. No matter, nibble feet falter just as quickly as heavy feet. Wading in with his axe held high, he heard his name called out (by Fali) but had no time to look around. Two things happened at the moment. First, his axe nicked the orc's knee, causing her to stumble and roll. And secondly, the skies suddenly opened up, and the rain pours down like sheets of steel...

Snak rolled and cursed. The bloody dwarf had got her knee. She crashed into someone's legs and came to a stop. The sudden downpour drenched her in seconds. Rising to her feet, she glared through the rain to find the scum that sliced her. "Ah! There's the maggot!" she snorted and limped hastily back towards him - her weapon raised and her teeth bared.

ANWYAYS Rhafna continued to harry the poor male dwarf that had been beaten to a pulp so far but charging orcs and dwarves clashing as well as at least one club that had cracked his help solidly. Indeed he'd be dead soon and she could happily eat to her hearts content which would be a few beakfuls before she was onto another dwarf.

The noise of battle was intense as Kali emerged from the tunnels, and her eyes flickered over the scene in front of the mountain. Across the rocky terrain she could see dwarves and orcs locked in combat, and to her horror she could already see bodies of her kinsmen left where they had fallen.

Rage rose within her swiftly, and hefting her seldom-used axe she charged into the battle with a battle cry worthy of her ancestors, "Khazâd ai-mênu!" and swung her axe blindly at first towards the first orc she came to.

...Kali's axe swung swift, left-right, left-right. Seldom-used indeed, indeed, but the blood-fury was a-rising to her head and it was a glorious thing to hew the bodies of the hated slayers of her kin. An instinct drove her forward, forward, hacking evenly -- but what was this? An assault from above, on high. "Down, horrible bird!" she cried...

She let out a little surprised caw as one of the dwarves actually managed to hit her as she continued her assault on Tomu, if there was one thing Rhafna was it was tenacious and she wasn't about to let a little swat deter her... DEATH upon black wings from doing what she did best. She looked this Kali dead in the eyes she landed on Tomu and then pecked hard at the back of his neck where he lay struggling to continue to breath

Why that little ... Kali couldn't believe it, not only was the horrid bird continuing its attack on the dazed dwarf but it locked eyes with Kali as if challenging her. "Leave him be, you curséd animal" she cried, her fury growing at the insult the bird offered. Smoothly she bought the axe round, powerful arms aiming the blade sideways, directly at the crebain but away from the wretched dwarf prone upon the ground.

The dwarf was after her that was clear enough but Rhafna let out an angry croak as she attacked again before she plunged her beak into the dwarf one last time killing him. With a few flaps of her wings she was off. Hopefully this Kali was smart enough to leave her alone.

Kali cried out in anguish as the dwarf fell beneath the cruel beak of the crebain, but there was no time to mourn as the battle continued to rage about her. A flew flaps of the birds wings were enough to take it out of her reach, but only for now she silently vowed. Her eyes marked well its appearance, and she knew they would be meeting again. With a grim smile she strode back towards the orc she had already injured, joy filling her as she sank her axe once more into his side.

The dwarf in question was leaving her alone that was good she scanned the battle field for another victim and soon settled on one. Perhaps this one would be sweeter if it wasn't a male dwarf. A bird could hardly tell such things especially during a fight. With that she swooped down and began the task of unaliving the dwarf she'd set her eyes on. And the dwarves looked like they were taking care of the orcs and goblins so her sisters and brothers would eat well enough on their corpses...

Velm was pretty sure that she had bashed her hammer into an orc's head and was waiting for it to die. But now, there was chaos all about her. Dwarves and orcs and carrion all swinging and winging and flinging weapons and enemies. Her victim was gone, trampled into the earth. But the nightmare was still absolute, and she was sure to find another foe to hammer in its brains.

She swooped down driving the dwarf to run swatting her wings against the help on his head undeterred by the bustling mass that made up the orcs and dwarves fighting. She wanted to panic them and run him right off a nearby cliff.

Her aim had been true, but inexperience showed when she allowed the orc too close, and shortly found a meaty fist swinging towards her face. Wrenching hard on her axe, she pried the blade from its side, managing to bring it up at the last moment to deflect the worst of the blow. Adjusting her grip, she swung once more, determined to prevail.

Another several flaps of her wings and the dwarf kept running glancing back at this bird that was coated in gore from dwarf, eagle, elf and orc. Rhafna indeed was a grizzly and horrible sight to behold as she dove pecking at the cheek of this particular dwarf driving them onward in fear, Rhafna from her vantage point in the air every time she beat her wings to gain height could see it looming ahead dangerously.

The orc was tiring, its movements growing sluggish as they traded blows amidst the chaos of their surroundings, but neither were willing to accept defeat, and there was still some power behind the sword that tried to pierce Khalis defenses. Swiftly she ducked as one such swing came towards her, the foul creatures blade passing just above her head. Kali laughed as they traded blows, the blood-fury warming her heart and strengthening her resolve.

She did not realize it at first, but Velm was suddenly enjoying the sound of her hammer crushing bone. As she swung at the orc's shoulder, avoiding a blow from its crooked sword, she grinned as she heard the bone crack under the weight of the weapon. It was not a gleeful grinned, mind you. It was the grin of one in a state of shocking wishing only for a reprise from the fighting and dying. Her grin, frozen on her lips, Velm swung her hammer again.

Doubt and fear seemed to flicker in the orcs squinted eyes as Kali pressed her advantage. Already she had managed to push the foul creature back, its resolve faltering before the strength of her attacks. Close it had come a few times to injuring her, but luck had held for the dwarf and she had few wounds to slow her, and it was that luck she counted on now. A few more blows would surely finish the creature she thought, as she hacked at its leg, straining to throw it to the ground.

Shrieks of fear drove the mean crow on, indeed they were a sign that she was doing exactly as she had been planning to do with this dwarf, the question was would the fear ruin the meat? Did she have the tastebuds to care? She wasn't sure on either of those but she did make sure to ping her beak off of the back of the dwarfs helm as she kept chasing her.

Feebly now the orc tried to ward off her blows, and Khali delighted in the look of defeat that seemed to overtake its cursed features. A hard blow she dealt to its already injured side, its shriek piercing her ears as it fell to the floor, its weapon almost falling from its grip. A well placed stomp of a boot sundered the orc from its sword, and Khali felt only grim satisfaction as she realised one more blow would be all that was needed.

The edge was getting closer, Rhafna needed to keep the dwarfs focus and terror on her. She cawwed loudly right in her ear and kecked at the opening near the dwarfs eyes nearly taking it out and earning a terrible a terrified shriek from the dwarf that clearly had no business being on a battlefield. The cliff was getting closer and closer...

The orc was defeated, it was evident even before Khali raised the axe high above her head and brought it down to cleave the abomination almost in two. Panting slightly she rested on her axe for a precious moment as she scanned the battlefield for her next target. The battle continued to rage, and there were still no shortage of targets. Swinging her axe as she waded back into the fray, Khali let instinct guide her.

So close she swooped and dove hitting her beak of their helm and their armor. Pecking and tearing at neck and hair and whatever else Rhafna could find as she drove this dwarf on towards the cliff edge. The dwarf was scrambling to avoid other attacks and keep their footing looking behind them trying to avoid the increasing attacks of the blood thirst crow that was behind them.

A fine path she had hewn through the masses when her axe was caught with a reverberating clash. Strong and tall was the orc that now faced Khali, squinted eyes burning with hate as it tried to overpower her smaller frame. Close came several of its blows, and she was hard-pressed to land any of her own, but there seemed to be a gap in its defences, and Khali was ready to take advantage. As it raised its sword to strike, she ducked underneath its arm, and rammed her axe into its side, hoping at least to knock the wind out of it so she could land a real blow.

@Nerys Golag should be at 6 lol

And suddenly the dwarf that she was chasing dropped out of sight with a shriek that lasted seconds as she plummeted down a 50 foot cliff onto the rocks below. Quite tenderized Rhafna thought as she swooped down the hill and pecked at a few choice morsels before her brethren came to join her. Indeed it was a few minutes because it was a way from the battle field, but soon they came and began eating and feasting happily before Rhafna took wing once more.

Thanks @Revered Grandmother, maybe I should check it on the calculator this time, lol

The orc instinctively doubled over as the axe made contact, and Khali seized her opportunity. There wasn’t the space to swing the axe as powerfully as she would like, but she had the satisfaction of seeing it make contact, the sharp edge opening up an impressive wound, and the orcs foul blood gushing out. The accursed creature wasn’t to be felled by one blow though, and almost faster than Kali could track she saw it’s wickedly curved scimitar coming at her.

The vile creature had cut Velm on the leg with a rusty knife hid in its filthy armour. Velm stood and took off one of the leather gloves she wore for battle and slapped the orc across the face; the orc down on its knees from her last blow that broke bones in its leg. She then swung her hammer once more. But the orc was wily and fell sideways, avoiding a fatal strike to the head and receiving only a clip to the ear.

Despite her best effort to twist away from the scimitar, Khali felt pain explode in her shoulder as the blade scored her skin. Gingerly flexing her arm, she was relieved to find that the blow had only done slight damage. Gritting her teeth against the pain, she swung her own weapon with a cry, hoping to take the creatures arm off in retaliation. Not the best plan for an inexperienced warrior, but the fury she felt had taken control for now.

This dwarf was a good bit tougher than the last bunch of encounters that she had had but she had no doubt that she would manage it just as well as she had before. Rhafna might just have to be extra careful especially at first as she darted in and out on this much more battle experienced dwarf. Her beak pinging off of armor at first still causing disorientation and fear just not as much as it had with the last dwarf.

Luck was clearly on her side, for there was certainly little skill in how she basely hacked at the orcs arm. Though she had not the strength to cut through the arm, she had the satisfaction of seeing the axe blade bite deep, and open up a new wound. The orc howled in pain as Khali wrenched her axe away, the arm hanging almost uselessly at its side. Even with only one arm, the orc was still a formidable sight as it launched another attack, however its balance was off, and Khali hoped she could exploit this new weakness as she raised her axe to counter its strike.

Rhafna slammed her chest into the back of the dwarfs helm thrashing her feet against the dwarfs neck scratching at it cutting deep into it. The sound had to be terrifying and loud in the ears of the dwarf as her wings struck the metal of the helm as she pushed off to circle once more and find some other weak point in her armor

Shifting her weight to the side seemed to do the trick, with the orc unable to adapt to her quicker movements. Sharp eyes quickly assessed her options, she knew she couldn't spare the energy to hack away until it succumbed to its wounds, instead she needed a way to even the odds. The creatures sword glanced off her axe, the power behind its swing making the foul creature lurch heavily to one side. Taking advantage of this new opening, Kali swung her axe down this time, the blade heading straight for the leg which now supported almost all of the orcs weight.

The only thing that Sog could think of as the battle rage around the bow-legged orc was his empty stomach growling as fiercely as the combatants that swung and stabbed with their weapons. There was plenty of dwarf flesh lying dead on the ravaged ground, but Sog wanted something warm.
'Ai, warm meats would be a treat!' he croaked as he eyed the blackbird clawing at a dwarf's neck. He knew that this would be a complicated meal to come by but thought it worth a try. And his stomach growled in agreement as he swatted at the bird with his sizeable flat blade.

A satisfying crunch sounded as the axe bit deep into the orcs leg, an anguished howl erupting from its vile mouth as the leg basically crumpled, bringing its greater height down to the perfect level for Khali. Baring her teeth in a grim smile, Kali relished the sight before the final moments of their battle. "Khazâd! Khazâd!" she cried as her axe swept out and back, the orcs scimitar falling uselessly to the ground. Unarmed it slumped, blackened blood gushing from its wounds, waiting for its doom to fall.

The bird appeared to have lost its balance momentarily, but it seemed strong and soon flapped its wings. But not high enough that the orc could not get another swing in and grazed the bird's underside with the tip of the blade. It was not a fatal blow, but it did slow the bird's ascent somewhat, which gave Sog time to lick his lips, hopefully.

Pity might have made her hesitate, being so little used to the grim realities of battle, had she not glanced around and found more of her kinsmen cut down in the most chilling way. Khali let the rage that bubbled in her blood power the next mighty swing of her axe, the blade cleaving the orcs head from its body almost cleanly. Foul curses she spat over its body in the secret language of the dwarves, as she turned away from the gruesome sight in disgust. But there was little time to rest, as almost before she could gather her wits another sword came swinging toward her.

Sog jumped up, his long arms flying in the air below the bird who, because of the two strikes to its body by the orc, was having trouble gaining altitude. The orc was having somewhat the same difficulty due to his bow legs. Every time he jumped, his knees ached painfully, for his legs had bowed for a long time. He used to be able to run fast with his bowed legs but not anymore. A stiffness had set into the joints, and now he hobbled. However, hunger made him jump regardless of the pain. He jumped with determination and plucked a feather from the bird's tail. The bird cried out while the orc shoved the feather into his mouth. He began to choke and quickly spat it out.
With tears in his eyes, he stared at the bird hungrily, determined to try and catch it again.

Khali stumbled slightly trying to get herself out of range of the sword that came perilously close to taking off her nose. As she backed away quickly, desperate to create some space, she bumped into something ... furry? Swinging round, sword forgotten, she looked up, and up again into the face of one very annoyed bear. While she was still debating the chances of an axe triumphing over an angry bear she felt a presence behind her, ducking quickly, she felt the air displace above her as the orc overshot and sank its blade into the bears side. Then she got to feel and see the wrath of the ursine in action as with an angry roar that massive paw crunched the orc into the ground.

The Crebain still appeared to be struggling to take flight. Sog took this opportunity to use a fallen cloak that he pulled from the trampled ground. He used it as a kind of net to capture the bird. Flinging it up into the air, he grunted and fell as the cloak missed its mark and fell on his head. Gaining his feet, he flung it again. This time the bird disappeared under it, and the garment seemed to float heavily to the ground.
Sog hastily ran to it and grabbled with the moving shape beneath it. He had the bird when suddenly its sharp beak found a hole in the material and pecked at the orc's hand. Sog called out in rage and released the cloak. The bird began to flap its wings. Up it, and the mantle rose. Suddenly the bird appeared from a fold, and the cover fell to the ground. The orc had injured the bird once more, but alas, it was still free from his hungry grasp.

Khali gulped as she looked at the ... remains of the orc. Another quick glance at her axe and she was not at all convinced that the odds were in her favour. Quickly she darted off to the right, the bear lumbering after her. Desperately she glanced about, knowing she would need help for this one. Maybe she could make it to the cliff? A desperate thought, but no there, a knot of dwarves still standing. Sprinting now she headed straight for them, several faces reflecting her own fear as she came closer, but to their credit across the group axes were raised, and several blows aimed straight at the bears thick hide as they arrived.

Sog heard a charge and saw a group of beardlings attack the large fierce bear that had been hanging about with its cubs. The orc's mouth watered at the thought of warm bear meat. He looked at the struggling bird and considered. There was a mere mouthful of meat on that bird's breast, whereas; the bear had rolls and rolls of meat and fat.
'Ai, ai! Gah!' groaned the orc.
He would never have a chance with all those pesky dwarves charging. By the time he got to the meat, it would be cold grizzle. Frustrated, Sog picked up a rock and threw it at the bird clipping its wing. A small feast was better than no meats.

The blows seemed hardly to phase the angry bear, and the thick fur made it hard to see what, if any damage had been done. Trying not to be daunted Khali raised her own axe, ready to swing, only for the bear to rise up on its back legs its huge paws swinging out and knocking down several dwarves at once. Mahal help me, she thought as she aimed under those huge paws, and aimed at its vulnerable stomach, knowing it might be the best chance she'd get to injure the creature.

The bear stood up, and Sog watched as a dwarf attacked it. He then turned back to smaller prey, the bird, thinking the dwarf was not right in the head for going in on the beast with just an axe. It wasn't his fight, and his thoughts turned back once more to capture the bird. For, it had landed on the ground not far from the orc. Slobbering, he rushed towards it but tripped before he could get a hold of it, though his sword did shave its wing.

So this was what it was like to fly, Kali mused as she went airborne for several heart stopping seconds. Even the stupidest orc would have been able to predict the enraged bears reaction, and of course she had never made it under the beasts paw, instead it had slammed into her with the force of a battering ram, and flung her away. She landed with a crash and what sounded like a crunch from her poor abused bones, and a rather scary dent in her armour from those wicked claws; blinking rapidly she tried to clear her head enough to think. How could they bring it down? Clearly axes weren't going to be enough; with a shout she gestured at the archers she'd landed close to, who took aim at the bears head.

Rhafna let out an angry squack as the orc attacked her and fluttered away she had been busy and if orcs weren't the absolute trash of this world she didn't know what was. Bears were better. No She wasn't putting up with this and she rounded on the orc in question and pecked at his eye swiftly with no mercy. She did not like this orc at all.

Velm watched as the orc squirmed on the ground clutching an ear. The clip had been more accurate than she first thought. Blood seeped from out between the orc's fingers. She turned her eyes from the orc and noticed a bird diving violently at another of her enemies. Any other time she would have cheered the attacker on but, not this time. She had seen this murderous villain pecking at more than one of her kin. It was quite the bully.

Before she knew the why of it, she was running towards the orc and bird. With the flat of her axe, she swatted the bird, kicked the orc, then fell and rolled out of the way. She came to a stop and jumped to her feet, waiting for some retaliation.

Unfortunately for Sog despite the fact it was a dwarf attacking her now the crow had it's mind set on destroying the nasty orc that had decided to bother her in her hunt of dwarves. She pecked at it violently once more looking to exact violent revenge upon the orc with several hard flaps of her wings and her sharp beak plunging in at the orc

Velm watched as the bird, apparently not injured one bit by her swat, kept on pecking at the orc. She had heard that these birds could see far and were used as spies for some evil purpose at times, but she did not know they were indestructible. Rushing towards the bird and orc again, she swatted at the bird, putting some oomph behind her swing. Then she dashed off and let the bird do its thing. After all, it was trying to peck out the eyes of her enemy, which was good; yet the dishonour it had caused to her kin was not.
