I'm currently trying to teach myself to play the Tagelharpa, which is a four-stringed bowed lyre. I've been mostly unsuccessful so far but ah well
Thank you so much! I was once a casual member of LotRPlaza, a few years ago. It's good to be back.
@Cellinion - ohh Mamma Mia would be super fun but to be honest that's one I'd rather be on stage for! I've played violin for 20 years and I should not be intimidated to restring mine but I am.
@Dunulf welcome back! so I had to look up the tagelharpa. looks cool and not easy! good for you. I once tried to teach myself mandolin and that was challenging. I thought it would be easier to convert violin-mandolin but it turns out its pretty hard and I didn't end up getting very far.

@Dunulf Good to have you back then! :D
@Lailyn ooh you have a mandolin? The tuning and fingering is practically the same as violin isn’t it? I haven’t picked up for ages and my tremolo is dreadful.

In awe of you all. I've been struggling (on and off) with the guitar since 1997. I've only managed to get 8 or so chords under the belt so my repertoire is extremely limited. I'd hoped to put in some hard practice over Lockdown in March, but that came to nought.

the face of his fathers -@Aodh Hammerhelm I understand that. As someone who always wanted to be good at music but never was, I had such high high high hopes...

@Sil - I did. past tense. its now getting dusty and out of tune at my parent's house. Yes, it has the same strings and tuning but since there are TWO of every string, tuning it is a baggins and at the time I had very little experience with chords and strumming. I managed to learn a little but then I moved and didn't take it with so haven't played in ~10 years. I'd love to try again now but I moved on to guitar instead which is slightly easier and more versatile.
@Androthelm
It's good to know someone else is in the same boat. It's the hours of practice required that thwart me --- that and the sore fingers and wooden ear.
