Just Stuff On a Wall

Alrite All, Rochindil or Roach here (I do recall Roach being one of my nicknames) I used to dabble a little in here over a decade ago *Cringes by the very thought of that much time passing*

I've been meaning to create a blog or something for a while to document some of my hobbies. In here you'll be able to find some of my writings,

needlework, knitting and occasionally some images my home town and travels (when we can all travel again that is)

and even some of my psychotic cat Marbles she likes to keep me on my toes literally :smiley9:

Above we have an image of my local park I took on my allocated one hour of exercise :smiley9:

Writings on a wall

(Main Entrance to my local park)

*Working title*

The flies are the first to know, when a person dies. They will gather around the eyes, mouth, nose and even the anus of the still breathing. The cadavers were piled twenty feet high and around forty feet wide this was just one pile of many. What was once a busy city park is now the eternal resting place for these poor souls. The only visitors to this haunted decaying monument of a park are grave robbers, the brave and the damned.

One such soul could be seen now hurrying in the dark of night. Fast approaching the grand entrance way to the park the mysterious figure shrouded in black hesitantly checked behind them to ensure they were not being followed before proceeding through the archway and down the parks main boulevard. For you see it was dangerous to be out in the dark of night, you could never be sure who was watching and no one absolutely no one wanted to end up on the next pile of fresh corpses the following day.

The mysterious entity passed a gas lit lamp which illuminated its features. A prominent sharp bird like beak with glassy eye openings could be seen protruding from a waxed leather like overcoat coated in what appeared to be blood, in its hand sat an old pitchfork. It made its way to the nearest corpse pile pausing just for a second, before proceeding to use the pitchfork stabbing at the corpses like a vulture would its meal.

My first impression is a description of the aftermath of the Black Plague. The description of the figure sounds like the beak-like masks that were worn during the Plague.

Your descriptions are extremely vivid and impressions strong.

Oak - Thank you for the kind comments and you would be correct in thinking of a plague, although I do expect some form of twists coming soon. Just have to see where my imagination takes me I plan on updating this storyline at least weekly time permitting of course.

I was hoping that cat would actually be on a wall. But I was disappointed. Very cute kitty though! @Rochindil Eltoran

KITTY! Please feel free to summon me upon the publication of future cat photos. I will bring treats and comment all other content as well. :smiley16:

Your local park(s?) sure have cool architecture. What a dark, creepy start to your story. I missed the reference to the Black Plague, so it had a potentially supernatural feel, like maybe the figure was some kind of minor god.

Oro - Sorry for the disappointment she is a house cat so no pictures of her on the wall. I'll see if I can find any with her hanging out on top of doors.

Aerlinn -Its just the one park I've not really ventured out to far at the moment as soon as I can i'll be sharing more of the local architecture. Thanks dark is certainly where I am going with this Story and in terms of supernatural just keep an eye out. I will be sure to summon you when the Kitty next makes an appearance.

Oooh! Loving the pictures! That is such a adorable cat! I mostly take pictures of my in-law's dogs - since we're not allowed to have pets where we're currently renting. :smiley13: But I always love to pet my friends cats! You have really nice parks by you! The parks near me are mostly trails through the woods. Some rivers and such.

I'm interested to see where you go with your story. It definitely feels dark and eeri. I picked up on the plague references. Especially with the bird beak mask and long overcoat.

I love all the photos! It's so fun getting to glimpse another person's world like this--and my goodness, what a juxtaposition between the first picture of a park and the story you're weaving around the second. Serenity, and then something absolutely bone-chilling :o I can't wait to see where it goes--all the imagery is so immediate and visceral, it ropes you right in!

I've done little to no writing of late this whole situation going on in the world has just had me essentially shutting down finding the whole thing rather stressful if i'm honest. One thing that has been a bit of an escape at the moment is my new found love for Cartography. So lets have a fantasy map, depending on how i'm feeling I may design a middle earth one and then onto a whole series of fantasy based maps, so for now enjoy my version of Narnia.

Sidra - She looks adorable but don't let her fool you she can be so mischievous and is constantly after food. I've recently moved house and now live in a village so most of my pictures of the outdoors will mostly be woodlands or costal now. I've started working on my plague story again so hoepfully more posts from me soon.

Thalionwen - Yes its brilliant to catch a glimpse of other peoples worlds especially if they live overseas. Hopefully be bringing in more bone chilling tales soon enough :)

Love these maps, @Rochindil Eltoran! And I completely understand about diving into a passion as a means of distracting oneself from the world right now - you've created some marvelous art and shot some lovely photos here. I love the color scheme of the Earthsea map particularly

I am a bit of a map nerd and yours are gorgeous!! I am curious if I can ask what program you used to make these? I just learned about Wonderdraft and I am tempted to get it.
The Narnia map gives me a nice sense of nostalgia. I used to stare at the Narnia map and imagine what all the places we never visit in the books would be like. I agree the color palette of the Earthsea map is perfect. I like the tasteful creatures and ship you chose to add to the map to evoke an Old World vibe in a more modern style (at least that's what I get from it).

Following up on @Lailyn's query, are you using Wonderdraft? I actually bought it a year or two ago, but haven't had much opportunity to play with it yet because I needed a slightly more powerful computer (which I acquired this year, lol!)

Both maps are gorgeous! I do love the color theme of the Earthsea one as well (which is partly why I ask about Wonderdraft because the coloration theme looks *very* familiar.)

The uh, story that is with your Writings on the Wall is excellent dark, but fantastic in how uncomfortable the descriptions are especially the opening lines.

As well I quite love the colour saturation for the kitty! Did you play with it in a program or use a setting on your camera? (I know some cameras and phones have a similar setting to that) as it works very well.

Great map of Earthsea, Roach! 😃. It seems like ages ago, actual it has been years, since I read that tale by Le Guin. I too enjoyed it!

Thanks for sharing!

Maps! I love maps! I didn't read Earthsea for the first time until a couple of years ago, but isn't it wonderful? Narnia, on the other hand, I haven't touched in...almost two decades (fredegar that makes me feel old ) and some of those names just hit me right in the heart.

I love the addition of the dragons and sea monster in Earthsea. Hope you'll make more soon!
