Say you have a cool lotr pic you gotta show your cool lotr friends

1) Upload it to a free image hoster like https://imgur.com (won't work for mobile!) or https://imgbb.com (should work for all platforms).

2) Option 1: imgbb lets you copy the BBCode once you upload - you can copy that directly into your post! It should look something like this:

Code: Select all

 [url=blahblah][img]https://blah[/img][/url]
Option 2: Copy the image url -- note that if your link looks like "https://imgur.com/a/T7ecpgK" (without a file extension) that won't work! You need to grab the URL of the image itself (something that ends with .jpg, .png or something like that). Then, add it to your post like this:

Code: Select all

[img]https://URL.jpg[/img]
3) Complain to me about how that's a crappy user experience that I should fix.

[edit: finished my sentence, a day later]

[edit 2: imgbb apparently works a lot better]

(something that ends ....) ends what? with jpg I assume :p
However imgur only gives me a generic link like the one you said won't work.
Gosh darnit, this is just as hard as back when :D

uhhhh oops yeah thanks :P

On a computer if you right-click the actual image and do "Copy Link Location" you should get the the actual image URL with extension. I think Sil found out how to get it on her phone but I forget how, or if she even did. Lemme do some experiments...

Ok actually Sil used imgbb to get it to work on her phone - my bad, I only tested my method on a laptop. Revised instructions coming soon....

Hmm I haven't tried on my phone yet.

Don't mind me while I test this potato to see whether you were right or not

Yep! I used imgbb.com

Upload your image
On the drop down go to BBCode thumbnail linked

Copy paste this into your reply box. (no need to enter the image code, the [ url ] bit should be included.

Thank you for this. Or I would have never figured out how to post images. imgbb is pretty simple both on computer and mobile from what I've found, so that's nice.

Letters, numbers and "_" What the heck is "_" ? I've tried all different combinations for a password. What are they asking for? Imgbb It says 4 to 16 characters (check) and "_"

While I look in to it though, FYI you don't need an account in order to upload a picture to imgbb.

Edit: Not sure what's going there, sorry! I was able to make an account from my laptop using numbers and upper/lowercase letters for my password. Hopefully the no-account uploading will work for you ok in the meantime?

@Narv Okay, I got it. I was overthinking what they wanted. Apparently, it's just an actual _ (line) after the letters & numbers for the password. :smiley16:

It's tricky to do with the 'Quick Reply' box, but if you open the 'Full Editor & Preview' screen, there should be a button there with a little paint drop kinda image on it - click it to choose a color, then type your text in between the tags that show up in the editor (see below):

Code: Select all

[color=#4040FF]YOUR TEXT HERE[/color]
And don't worry, it's not that you're out of touch, it's that web forums are - nobody uses this BBCode stuff on the rest of the internet anymore :smiley15:

OH my gosh. :smiley20:

I totally see it now.

Thanks for the reassurance! :smiley24: I only got my first smart phone not even 2 years ago and am out of touch with all the new fads and tech yet I've also learning programming languages... I don't know how those two things go together to be honest!
