I VOLUNTEER AS TRIBUTE. *ahem* I mean... are you an actual decent artist? Because there's a medallion/pendant that my character wears *all the time* IC, and I would love to have an actual artistic-ish rendering of it.

However, if this ends up being a cheesy Narv-style Windows Paint image I will still enjoy it.

Here's the description:

It was silver, both the medallion and the chain it hung on. Engraved on the medallion was the image of a running horse. Its mane, tail and hooves had been carefully colored with gold, and a small emerald had been used for its eye.

@Taethowen

I gave it a try. I've been mostly drawing peoples all this time, so the horsie gave me trouble. Still, I hope you like it.

Hi Vorondir, that medallion you made for Taethowen is fantastic! Do you take requests for banners? I wanted to make a great banner for the new Hobbit Hole Homes thread, but I got frustrated quickly and chose to just put a random picture in there instead.

https://lotrfanaticsplaza.com/forum/vie ... 517#p12517

The banner would preferably include the words "Hobbit Hole Homes" but not "A New Day". Thanks in advance if you choose to take this on!

Holy moly, this is amazing, @Vorondir! And done so quickly! Out of curiosity, what are your preferred tools for a drawing like this? (I'm assuming this was done digitally?) I have next to zero drawing skill myself but am always curious how others do it.

I have a long list of things I'd like to request (sorry in advance :smiley15:) and will be back once I can think of what I'd like to ask for first.

@Tarawen I did this on clipstudio. I am trying to learn the ropes, but it's very different to krita which is the software I'm used to. I use an old huion tablet which I'm also trying to upgrade soon.

Thanks for the new requests guys!

I've been looking forward to seeing your art, but it's just a wee Image square for me, which is very frustrating when everyone else is blown away! :smiley9:

I am on Chrome also, but can see the image in the thread just fine and can open it in a new tab. Weird that you can't see it at all, @Lirimaer. Thanks for messaging it over, @Winddancer!

I will, for sure! I'll try playing with cookies first ;)

It is so pretty, Vorondir - I'm a little in awe! I may have to come to you with a commission of my own at some stage! Will you put up some of your more usual people art for us to see, too?

Edit 28.06.20: It's appeared for me - I still don't know why!!! But thanks, @Winddancer for sending it to me via discord!

Weird, it didn't show up on my computer (chrome) or mobile. I will go take a look at what might be going on for me, too.

EDIT: And it showed up for me now! Holy WOW, that is absolutely stunning!

I think the thing I'm most proud of is this piece here. It's not too bad and I think it's bordering on professional. But I am a bit embarrassed because I'm turning 30 soon and I've been through art school and I've had all this time to practice, and yet there are people who do so much more than me in just a few short years. I know I shouldn't think that way; a lack of confidence can make you really unproductive. But, you know, it's hard to just flip a switch and suddenly be confident. It's why I find it so hard to get on social media with my art. Or commit to a project of my own that someone didn't hire me to do.

That is frigging awesome though! I play a lot of boardgames and that looks like boardgame art! Even Discworld art! <3

Wow, @Vorondir - that medallion is AWESOME!! How you've picked out the horse, and the detail on the metal of the little chips and scratches is so beautifully done! Even the chain is exceptional.

That second image is fantastic too. Particularly love the way you've got the light from the flame to pick out the detail on the clothing, his face, beard, and fingers.

You should be brimming with confidence - these are fantastic and you are quite evidently an incredibly talented artist! I know confidence has to come from within, but honestly - you've nailed both these pictures! Take it from someone who dropped art at school as soon as it was possible to do so, but who would have probably swapped her right arm for improved artistic abilities, you've got it in spades!

Two things:

First, Imposter syndrome is totally real and legit. I feel it all the time as a software engineer, but the feeling transcends discipline, I think. You know this community will support your art, as much or as little as you care to share it with us. And I don't think I'm alone when I say it's amazing you're offering to create art for people here for free. <3!

Second, this is an incredible image. I absolutely LOVE the way you've made the torch cast the character in warm light and shadow. Thank you very much for sharing!

Hey Vorondir! Thank you so much for sharing your work, it's gorgeous. This latest work is beautiful, I love the style and really like the colour pallette.

And as for imposter syndrome-- I think way more people deal with that than we ever think. I run into it constantly as an artist/performer- I've got a degree in theatre & music and have been working almost nonstop on various projects, but it's hard not to compare myself to others, or simply feel that I should be in a different place with my work.

Your work is amazing, and I'm so grateful you've chosen to share it with us. I hope you'll continue to do so, if/when you choose. <3

The only way to compare your art is with yourself: Then And Now. I do get that it is so tempting to compare yourself with others or with how you think you ought to be at # age, if only you'd given more time to it ... but that way lies madness!! It's also likely that as an artist you often see only the things you wrestled with and didn't quite get right - but you're in good company, because I think we are all in the same boat.

That being said, WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?! He's really good. It does look professional, and your use of coloured shadow is lovely. Nice job. Be prepared for oodles of character commissions! :smiley9:

Ohhhhh!! I absolutely love the medallion! Taeth, if you ever get tired of being burdened with it, I shall take it on and carry it for you! :smiley8:

Thanks, everybody! :grouphug: You're all too kind and it's very nice to feel seen and heard... And @Tarawen & @Burnt Toast , yes, I suppose it is pretty much a version of imposter syndrome. I never thought about it that way. Thank you.

I've been away from the drawing board for a while, and work was mostly about brainstorming and design instead of actually drawing, so I feel very awkward with a stylus in my hand again :embarrassed:

@Dwim, I made this for you but don't feel obliged to use it. I understand it might be that a photo you find online sometimes works much better than a sketch. But hey, I gave it a shot. Sorry for the delay.

@Vorondir, thank you so much! I couldn't have imagined anything better.

I have wasted no time adding it to the thread (with credit to you of course): https://lotrfanaticsplaza.com/forum/vie ... 517#p12517

This is so much better than using a photo from Google image search. I love that you went with the sketched theme, because that's really what the idea of the thread is, to bring to life the hobbit holes we've sketched an idea of in our minds. I love the cartoon feel to the sketch too, it fits the mood perfectly. Thank you again!

Hi @Vorondir! You did a marvelous job with the banner, especially if you were feeling rusty, as you say. It is understated yet so homey - precisely as I imagine hobbit homes to be.

I am here with a request of my own (as promised about 5 million years ago). Here is a description of the character:

The character is a minion (Númenórean) from Umbar named Zôrzimril. She's a cunning and mischievous flirt.

Here's a physical description: Quite slim, fairly tall (~5'11") with thick, wavy black hair. She has grey eyes, a pale complexion, and is, of course, beautiful. She wears marquise-cut ruby earrings when she's feeling dressy and her wardrobe consists of all dark colors (lots of greys and blacks. And silks. She likes nice things. :googly:). She is in her 40s but, thanks to those Númenórean genes, looks much younger.

I've been imagining her to look a lot like the woman in this image, but I welcome your interpretation.
