Feedback & Feature Requests
I also endorse all swear words being filter-changed to narv.
Funny thing is, all the "kids" from back then, are now frigging adults with kids of their own! :O
I think that's the main reason we're not concerned, Windy. I mean Narv was a fetus when he joined the old Plaza and now he's recreated the thing from his old folks home. Even the youngest members are adults now.
But if this ever spreads further than a nostalgia trip for us then things may change. Like the introductory post said, this is essentially beta testing and we're not looking to control too much.

I endorse the occasional swear. Baby Cair would not have. Leveled up adult Cair sure hecking does.
That made me lol :PUruva wrote: ↑Fri May 15, 2020 3:17 am I think that's the main reason we're not concerned, Windy. I mean Narv was a fetus when he joined the old Plaza and now he's recreated the thing from his old folks home. Even the youngest members are adults now.

And yes, thats kinda where I was going with it, though never got there. This is just beta. Hell, I am just hoping we survive the move :P
I don't think any amount of swear filters will save me if we don't...
It’s crazy how much older everyone is. I was 15 in 2003 and now I’m 32 and have 2 kids who are 6 and 4. The fact that my kids are closer to how old I was when I joined the Plaza than I am is ridiculous to me.
I was 14 when I joined the plaza back in 2008 and am now 25. So, yeah, the occasional swear is fine with me. It, along with wine, is sometimes a necessity.
On the more frivolous side of feature requests, here are some smilies I had in my custom library before. Any chance of adding them/some of them? Or at least the whip one? :smiley8:

Today has been kinda bonkers with how many people have showed up and actually posted. I was worried at first that the Nu Plaza* would just be a slightly participatory diorama, but it feels like we've actually got a shot at rebuilding a viable community here. All praise be to Narv.Winddancer wrote: ↑Fri May 15, 2020 3:48 amThat made me lol :P

* "New Plaza" has been used, by my count, on at least three previous occasions (the big overhaul in January 2007, the introduction of Regions in late 2009 or early 2010, and the move to vBulletin in late 2012), so I'm trying a slightly different term.
I know nothing about coding so this might be incredibly hard to do, but would it be possible to add a feature to "tag" other users in posts (like how on Twitter you can @username someone)?
Narv or Sil or Uruva, the Gondorians are trying to figure out some stuff to organize the kingdom, but it would be easier to gather opinions if we could have a couple of polls... If we're allowed! Could I appeal to any of you about a poll or two?
Sure, do you want to post here or email us what you want the poll to be?
Hey Arnyn, actually that was just a permission switch I needed to flip - you should be able to create your polls now I think. Let me know if you still can't!
@Mojo there are extensions for that out there I think, I just haven't investigated it very much yet. Probably not a good idea for me to try to roll my own mentioning system, but if there are 3rd-party ones that look well-maintained then that might work.
Hey Narv, is there a time frame for getting KD open? I know you probably have lots to do but I have a ton of ideas and I want to organise the kingdom as soon as possible so we can get this thing moving:)
Thanks, Narv/Ace!
@Thorin, see viewtopic.php?f=8&t=33&p=1280#p1280 -- so like, today, if I don't screw it up
Bowes to the big Narv and then asks: "Will there be Isengard somewhere? " I need a pub to open...
Narv wrote: ↑Fri May 15, 2020 8:42 pm Thanks for all the votes and input -- on the scale of debates over Plaza RP forums this has gotta be the most respectful in history. It's almost like we're all 10 years older or something![]()
For now, I'm gonna put up the top 2 picks: KD and Fangorn.
Isengard is a bit of a distant 4th (I guess 5th after Mirkwood & associates), and it's also something that (as others have mentioned) might work well as threads within Rohan and/or Fangorn. That has the benefit of boosting some of the less-active forums and Istari were a wandering folk anyway. Uh at least like, the good ones. So I hope our Wizard friends can find a way to make that work.
Lorien is the hardest one for sure, as it was the first time around IIRC, so I'm gonna leave that open for discussion. It's hard for a bunch of minions like Sil & Uruva & I to get inside the mind of an elf - is having the icons and ranks sufficient to allow coexistence with Rivendell given that this is almost surely gonna be a significantly smaller site than the old plaza, or is there a core contingent of yall that feel like you need a separate forum and would keep it active?
Other more region-type places I'm gonna recommend stay as threads in whatever existing forum it feels appropriate to have them in for now.
Yeah, that ^^
For now I would recommend setting up an Isengard pub in either Rohan or Fangorn (when it's up), as it was always the lot of the Isengardians to share space with those two sometimes-awkward neighbors. Until we see enough wizzies around to support a whole forum I think that compromise is best to avoid too much inactive space on the board.
(that's just my call for now, and there's nothing stopping a future mod team from changing that once they exist, which will hopefully not be too far away!)

Probably Rohan then... once the wizzies settle we'll get those damn horses away anyway...
...most of the wizzies are still in the undying lands...drinking the funky stuff I suppse. It takes a lot pressure and bribing to get them here...
Ult you can always drink in KD - if you get past the doorkeep (lol!)
Now that Fangorn has a kingdom, I'd be happy to set up a "Treegarth of Isengard" thread to let the displaced Wizards assemble
This angling for the allegiance of the lone Wizard is a political development I did not foresee but entirely approve
yaas, let's offer lonely wizzies a refuge among the trees. we could just stand by, hoom a bit and be treeish of sorts and of course be watchful. I was posting an intro topic but Mojo beat me to it...ha, like old times, too slow. and I deleted it again, like old times too
darn -1 point already!
darn -1 point already!
For you and any former Wizards to explore the long-empty tower --> viewtopic.php?f=16&t=93
Isn't that odd now? Yet after all, why not? Why shouldn't it stay there [on my browser tab]?
don't mind me everyone I'm just typing @Uruva and @Sil for no reason in particular
Who dares speak my name
Is it @Narv ?
@Narv how does it work?
my narvy senses are tingling
Stay tuned Oro...
*sends Narv spyware to get ahead of the game*
@Narv
AHA
Lemme just speak Uruva’s name too...

@Uruva
Thank you Fangorn and Rohan for giving the wizzies a welcome...probably you don't know what you offered yet once they start to fill up the place...
And I hope we can just forget about all those points. I never cared about them, or the thing you have to post so long and so long to get a point. Or even worse the deleting of posts. Thanks Narv for all the work. I have to say I'm rusty in doing the old stuff and how it worked those days.

Yeah Ult I hemmed and hawed a bunch about bringing back points because they are indeed very silly. But some folks get a kick out of seeing their rank go up with points and such, and in the end nostalgia won out in my brain and I left em in. But you're definitely right that they're totally meaningless (especially now since they're not tied to changing Kingdoms or whatever). Not sure when I'm ever gonna get into the positives myself but I'm not too fussed about it
Oh, you got a favicon. Your website is growing up a little bit at a time.
Narv, as much as it pains me to say it, I actually have some experience with the languages of web. I'm not offering to take on a big role in building this shire because I'm actually more than busy with my real job (apparently I'm an essential worker) and I'm also quite lazy. But if you get stuck I might be open to being poked. Fair warning it's a couple of years since I last really delved into the worlds of php and css and the like, but the knowledge is tucked away somewhere in the back of my necktop computer.

Ok so I havent actually tried writing a long post, so forgive me if this is already in place, but I seem to recall there was some kind of "auto save" that it could do, so that you didnt lose your post when posting?? Anyone know what I am on about?
@Winddancer - I accidentally closed my browser window on a half-written post yesterday and it was still there when I opened it up again from history. But not sure if that had any relation to the forum itself or just Chrome being nice to me?
@Narv - I know it's just a name, but any of chance of re-re-branding Art, Poetry and Fanfiction as the Cottage of Lost Play? I'm find myself kinda missing the place, though I have no immediate original work to post. I'm no coder, but I could make a banner inspired by whatever designs/graphics I can dig out of the Wayback Machine for nostalgia points?
(this tagging people thing is pretty freakin' sweet!!)

Yep. It was called "write all your posts in a text editor because the internet will swallow you whole if you make yourself vulnerable."Winddancer wrote: ↑Sat May 16, 2020 2:06 pm Ok so I havent actually tried writing a long post, so forgive me if this is already in place, but I seem to recall there was some kind of "auto save" that it could do, so that you didnt lose your post when posting?? I am too lazy for that!Loke Clogwearer wrote: ↑Sat May 16, 2020 2:55 pm Yep. It was called "write all your posts in a text editor because the internet will swallow you whole if you make yourself vulnerable."
The old Plaza had an autosave feature, at least in its later years. I don't think vanilla phpBB has one, but if you click the "Full Editor & Preview" button there's an option to save drafts there.
Fun fact: If you're using the Plaza from a mobile browser (show in Desktop Mode seems to be ideal)...your phone's regular emojis will also work

Plaza is what taught me to always do ctrl+a, ctrl+c before pressing the post button
