Amadhrill smiled warmly as Eldrith greeted her. Years might have passed, but the memories from their years as pub mistresses came rushing through her mind, and she laughed at Eldriths comments to Shiva. Ah, yes, there had been more then one fight in the Ældsel, some bar brawls from time to time. But the soft words of EldrithMemories from the Ældsel and the old cavalry pub, the Æthel, ran through her mind. Amas eyes ran up to the bar again, half expecting Cnith and Getale to be there as they had always been in the Ældsel. Her eyes returned to Eldrith again, noticing that the woman seemed to ease as she joined them even as her eyes seemed to scan the pub, old habits die hard. Yet, it was good that some things had not changed, and Ama smiled at the quick update from her old friend. It warmed her still more to hear the laughter from Eldrith as Hasufel was greeted with a prophesy from Eldriths mouth. She shivered slightly to the words, adventure awaits or a plot needs foiling, she hoped for neither, all she wanted was an easy evening at the pub, catching up with old friends. Plots and adventures, those days were long gone in her mind.
Ama chuckled gently as her eyes did as Eldrith and scanned the pub for any needs awaiting to be tended to; «Be careful now, or you might find yourself a pubmistress once more, then you might need to travel more often again...» she whispered softly towards Eldrith as she walked towards Euridice and added as an afterthought to no one in particular. «I for one, find I am too old and tied up at home for those duties. That is a young person's work! Thought I do miss seeing Getale and Cnith working their magic in the Ældsel!»
She turned her green eyes towards Shivased and nodded. As a young woman she too had travelled to Gondor, searching for her first husband after he had gone missing. She had no fond memories from neither time nor place, though the city was impressive and the people not unfriendly «I am sorry for the loss of your mother, and I am sure it was a great help to your grandparents to have your help.» The conversation quickly moved on, as Shiva offered a return to the cavalry. Ama shook her head laughing. «Cnith was the barkeep, and Getale the bar maid. The best that Rohan could offer in those days! It is a kind offer, I am sure, but not one I will take up.»
At the thought of the cavalry her right hand, the sword hand, however went to her sides where the sword now seldom hung. The hand found only the hælend bag now containing the rarest herbs, needles, thread, a small pair of scissors, and a half-mended knitted sock. «Come now, you know I'm the most innocent rider there is» Shiva claimed, trying to look innocent. Ama lifted her tankard towards the other, eyes glittering with merriment as Eldrith nudged the newcomer Euridice into their midst and introduced everyone. «A first marshal of the cavalry with no knowledge of knives... what have the cavalry come to? These days, I only wear my sword when travelling or leaving the city walls. And what training I get is teaching the children how to wield their play swords. No, my friend, the cavalry is not for me any more, that is a place for younger people!» She was about to continue when the quiet voice of Rowena interrupted her.
Ama nodded to Eléos words. «I can relate to that myself. I am sure I should fight should the need be dire, but I pray it will not come to that!» Her attention returned to Shiva and she lifted her cup towards the first marshal. «Are any promotions in the cavalry still celebrated» she hesitated for a moment, not sure that celebrated was the correct word «with the biletwidox?» the mere thought made her shiver and laugh.
She smiled to Euridice «Yes, a long time ago I held a pub with Eldrith, it was known as the Ældsel Inn. These people, and many more, frequented here, and I must say it is a strange coincident that we should all meet here again tonight. But, Gwai this must be the most productive thing to do after a long travel. Food and drink and good company will have you productive again, but perhaps not in the morning» She added in an afterthought, remembering well how some pub evenings had turned into long nights. Just then Leal joined them and Ama stood up to push another table to join with the table they were seated by so that more people could fit around it. Ama too looked to Gwai as Eldrith asked if she planned to return to the cavalry. No, that was not her, she had children and she had always been more of a hælend then a warrior. «It seems as if you are limping, Euridice, have you had anyone have a look at it? I am hælend, perhaps I can have a look?»
Her words were soft and friendly, an offer, not an order. As a hælend in the cavalry she had often had to order wigends and marshals alike to suffer her medical examinations, but as a civilian she no longer held nor needed the authority for that. Most of the time people came voluntarily to seek her help. Her train of thought was interrupted by the casual comment of Eldrith, making Ama spin round. She knew Eldrith better than to take this for a casual comment. «Thefts?!» For a moment she hesitated, now that the word was spoken... «Yes... now that you say it... perhaps... in our neighbourhood it has been talked of clothes and livestocks and food that has gone missing. But we have put it down to the strong winds and wild animals...»
