One of my first introductions to the history of the Angmar Wars was Battle for Middle-Earth 2: Rise of the Witch-King; and at least a couple of Angmar's units were Black Numenoreans: warriors, rangers, and sorcerers. Ever since I learned about Black Numenoreans they seemed to fit perfectly in Angmar, as the Witch-King's elite class in Carn-Dum... except Tolkien never said there were Black Numenoreans in Angmar; in fact it was written in lore that their main base of operation was in Umbar, with maybe some in Mordor or Minas morgul, and I didn't find this out until only several years ago.

And yet the concept of Black Numenoreans journeying to Angmar alongside the witch-king (who was possibly of numenorean heritage himself); heirs of The King's Men involved in a campaign to destroy the kingdom of the heirs of Isildur oddly makes to me, though how they even got to Angmar or where they even came from to begin with is a headache. Though I suppose they could've been corrupted dunedain, in fact I think the "Black Numenoreans" in ROTWK were meant to be "Dark Dunedain" but then got rebranded as "Black Numenoreans"

Heck, even LOTRO and War in the North was partial to the idea of incorporating Black Numenoreans in Angmar.

But IDK, what do you lot think of this concept? You ok with Black Numenoreans, or at least "Dark Dunedain" in Angmar?

I suppose it couldn't be dismissed out of hand, but is definitely fanfic lore, which BFME and LOTRO is. I think the chances of any men with Númenórean blood being in Angmar would be extremely limited to possibly some Rhudaurian Dúnedain descendants through lines mingled with the Hillmen.

Angmar was the name of the far northern reaches of the Misty Mountains that angled northwest from the main spine of the Misty Mountains, and the witch-king didn't go there until around 1300 of the Third Age. Did Númenorians in the second age journey so far to the north and east? Doubtful, but then they were always looking for hearty trees to log to build ships with.

I suppose the question fits in as one of those 'if it isn't specifically mentioned in canon, it could have happened' things. It would make sense to have an 'elite' in video game and why not name them 'Black Númenóreans' since that was what Castamir and his followers were called when they were driven out of Gondor in 1447 of the third age, becoming the 'Corsairs of Umbar'.

I guess a fleet of them could have sailed from Umbar when Gondor raided it and took control of it for a while, at least as far north as the enedwaith and secretly migrate into Angmar from there?

Either that, or some defected Dunedain held out in Angmar when during Arnor's civil turmoil just before the Witch-King got there.

Either or could (kinda) work, but I can understand why either of these would be ruled out

I would call them Misty Numenoreans because of their proximity to the Misty Mountains and because they have a bunch of brain fog forgetting how or why they settled there.

I mean Angmar did technically include the Misty Mountains, and even a bit of Rhovanion

The Dunedain are of Númenorian origin. I know that the Dunedain are descended from the Númenoreans. Also, the presence of Black Númenoreans in Angmar is not related to geography. It is entirely to strengthen Angmar in every sense, especially militarily, and to gather forces. Black Númenoreans can travel to Angmar from anywhere in Middle-earth. I think Tolkien didn't see the need to elaborate on this.
