The Adoption Center
Previous threads: Adoption Center I, II, III
I suppose the name speaks for itself, doesn’t it? Either way, this thread is here to aid all Plazaites, newbies and oldbies alike. Here, you will be able find your future Plaza family.

An Introduction To Plaza Families (FAQs)

What is a Plaza Family?
A Plaza Family is a group of individuals who generally hang out with each other, and share the same surname. Most of us do this for fun, and some of us also do it for RP purposes. Plaza Families do not have to be very large. In fact, they do not need to be large at all. A Plaza Family can consist of two people, or as many as twenty, or even more.

How do I get a Plaza Family? aka I want to get adopted! How would I do that?
Those looking to start a Plaza Family, please see the next question. So, to address this question. How would one get a Plaza Family? Simple. You sign up in this thread and fill in the Adoption Form. It’s in Blue below.

After which, you wait around for offers to begin coming in. You can choose to pick the first person who wants to adopt you, or you can look around in the different family threads located usually, in LotR Site, Shop and Plaza Related and pick a family that you think would be best; then post the request here or the acceptence. If you choose the second option, you can respectfully go in that family thread and ask around, work your magic and make them want you :smiley8: Either way works fine, so there’s no need to worry at all.

Some families often use the free roaming threads of thier Regions and in them set up family households. Try looking around on plaza; not all names will be found here. This is a service offered that one must request to have thier family's name displayed here.

How do I adopt someone or request for other then an adoption?
You can do this by checking this thread on a regular basis, and offer to adopt anyone who wants to be adopted. If they accept, voila. There's no need to fill in any form if you are the one doing the adopting. If you have a possible desire that is not the usual adoption, then read below to the color codes to see if a need can be met. Post your intent in that color of choice, then wait and see.

How do I start a Plaza Family?
(View the above question.) There you have it, a Plaza Family. (Of course, there are other ways, involving getting Plaza married and then starting a family. But this is primarily an Adoption Thread, so of course that's what I would advocate :smiley8:). There is also the way of posting a request to have your family's plaza name added to the active list displayed below. Good luck to you all who come seeking a family connection.

There were a lot of rules in some of the old Adoption Centre threads, most of which I think are unnecessary now (if they ever were). If you are interested in being adopted into a Plaza family, simply express your interest, possibly by filling out the form below. If you are interested in being the person who adopts someone, feel free to post here indicating your interest. My big sister @Nia making such a post is how I initially got involved in all this, 11+ years ago. :smiley11:

I figure either this thread or Dimcairien's Plaza Family Trees thread can serve as a place for general discussion and housekeeping related to family business, should there be anything to discuss. I know we have current or former members of (at least) the Alarion, Banba, Dagda, Dunami, Eltoran, Girarion, Indaril, Laegiel, Mordagnir, Nenharma, Sadril, Silverleaf, and Suchi-ru families on the Nu Plaza, though I don't know how many of them have any interest in resuming activity.

If you have are a member of an established family from the OG Plaza, I'd love to hear from you in either family thread. If you have ever been a family head, are the most senior active member of your family, and/or just don't mind being a point person, I'd be happy to include a list of extant families and contacts. And if you want to create a new family, the more the merrier!

I think I'm the only Banba. Happy to represent/be the point person for us in case any one else turns up or just wants to join :smiley8:

@Aigronding Mordagnir I don't think I ever actually joined the Mordagnir family OOC and got added to the tree, did I?

I am (was?) a member of the Feorsteorra family. I think I was adopted circa 2004...I haven’t seen anyone else from the fam on here yet, hopefully some will wander in!

Wooow I'm cringing so hard at myself... reading through those old adoption threads... I'm surprised anyone adopted me. No loyalty whatsoever; got adopted and then 2 weeks later back I was again wanting more parents :smiley9:

I feel like there must have been an even earlier thread though?

I'm too scared to look through the old threads, I was a Dunami and we were a weird bunch, but I was Weird, oscillating overly friendly to super grimdark. If the families start up again in earnest, I kinda want to start my own family.

Definitely, it began in like 2003

Poking around in the Wayback Machine, I've found a couple more adoption threads, these from 2007. The older of the two is numbered as the second in a series, but I have no doubt there were multiple threads preceding it. This was before my time, though, so I can't rely on memory to guide my searching.

I remember the blue dots! And yes, they are very sentimental.

If anyone is looking for a family, I’m happy to adopt/plaza marry anyone who might be interested. Dimcairien (Lorien elf) can be either OOC or IC and Artanis (Mirkwood elf) needs to be at least conceivably IC

Thanks for your hard work, @Eldy Dunami !

Name: Orco del Oro
Kingdom: Mordor
RPed Character’s Race: Orc
Desired Relationship with Adopter: Would like a wife-husband relationship (Orco is male). Keep in mind Orco may pursue or have mistresses on the side because Orco would be a disloyal lying scumbag to a wife.
Desired Adopter(s) If Any: So long as it's not an entwife. Orco would find that weird.

Haha! I remember I went on an adopting spree! Though (I believe) most of my children didn't stay on the plaza for long. I think Rochindil was the only one to stay around. :smiley9:

I don't think so, @Moriel *le gasp! :smiley12: Can that be remedied and want me to create a Mordagnir OOC house :smiley17: ?* Do you want us to adopt any members or do you think we have a lot as is? :smiley9:

It may not help with the blue circle emotions-- but the wonderful Narv did create a way to link to specific posts. Our individual Kingdom (or lack thereof) icons are now a specific link to whichever post they are tied to. If you click one, you can use it to grab the url and use it for linking to specific posts.

I think that explanation made sense... :|

Alright @Rivvy Elf , I volunteer for unholy matrimony if you'd like :smiley9: But upon the understanding that I, an honorable and ordinary maid of the Riddermark, made a grievous error in entering our union, am trying extremely hard to keep it a secret outside of Mordor, and that if you EVER show up in Rohan, I will have the Cavalry run you off at once :smiley8:

@Thalionwen Orco accepts. He loves horses so that was probably how the conversation started

Okay, but @Rivvy Elf does he love horses to look at or ride, or does he love horses to *eat* 😂😂😂 I feel the need for clarity

@Thalionwen He likes petting them. He prefers to be a cannibal than to knowingly eat such a cute animal like a horse or a giant spider.

Well good, cannibalism Thalionwen can overlook, horse-eating would be difficult for her 😂

I'm guessing Hannibal is the caterer? My advise: don't stiff on the payment, that would be rude.

Heads up to my big sister @Nia—who adopted me in an iteration of this thread from nearly 14 years ago—and any other Dunamis who still visit the NuPlaza that our surname just appeared in the Journal of Tolkien Research! My friend Doug Kane reviewed Brian Sibley's The Fall of Númenor for JTR and, with permission, quoted several times from a post I made about the book last month. I asked to be credited as Eldy Dunami, mostly because I've tried to make the connection between my IRL and internet names less obvious in recent years, but also because I liked the idea of a Plaza family surname appearing in one of the more prominent academic Tolkien journals. Fortunately, the book reviews editor (Douglas A. Anderson) signed off on citing an internet nobody by her forum username.

Ohhh, I didn't know this was a thing! 😆 very interesting!

I don't currently have any interest in finding a family, (I may later though!)
but I do have a group of bandits in the northern lands, if anyone would like to join them, haha. Their primary enemies are rangers of the north. (Pre-war)
Atm it's just my handful of bandits and a bunch of unnamed npc bandit subordinates lol but would enjoy having some fellow bandits to rp with and cause trouble with 😀
Not an adoption exactly but they're sort of a "family"
