Lieutenant Arnyn Dealedwen
Headquarters - Dec 25th, Midday
"Your father wanting you to do the best you could, and to look after each other, both sound like good things," she said, more careful now than before. "I wonder if...Gwestion was more like your father, or whether you were," she mused thoughtfully. "My own father once told my brother and me that he was more easily frustrated with Tercen than with me, because he reminded himself so much more of what he used to be like, himself, when he was younger. And because he knew the mistakes and the pitfalls that came with that personality. My father once told me that he had learned tough lessons, and had forced himself to change - but how seeing those qualities reflected in his son..." Arnyn lifted one shoulder. "Apparently that was more difficult than it was for him, with me. Because I was more like who he had become over time, rather than who he used to be. Which also meant he probably had more difficulty to tell where I was likely to go wrong while finding my own way. That wasn't his experience. So it bothered him less." She didn't mean that her own family's situation was transferable to others, but you never knew. Parenting was, apparently, a strange and difficult thing. Or so she had been told.
When Gladhron thanked her for what she'd said earlier, Arnyn offered a faint smile in return. "It's the truth," she simply said. "And... well, I'm not your parent. Or your mentor." Her faint smile grew just a little. "I'm your friend. As your friend, what I'm hearing are different things. Strength. Commitment. Your refusal to give up. Your urge to protect." All things she admired in people.
Arnyn slowly shook her head when he stated he hadn't wanted to bring the conversation down. She also frowned a little when he apologized for seeing the room, and wanted to say something, but he beat her to it. It almost felt like he was putting her into her place, even though he was talking about her having the skills to put others in their place if they'd think badly of her drawing.
"Yes, Lieutenants are allowed," she began, rolling her eyes. "And I never claimed I was ashamed," she pointed out. "I'm not ashamed. It's only..." Her frown deepened as she assessed his grey blue eyes. Their colour was very alike to Trastion's, part of her mind noted. "And what kind of woman do you know me to be?" she demanded, shifting to lean back in her chair and crossing her arms in front of her.
