Wow @Menolly , I was beginning to think I may have made that one a bit too difficult. But you've got it!

Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun, and I couldn't think of anything that rhymes with 'fourth'. As for the other lines, Mariner 4 was the first spacecraft to successfully observe Mars closeup. Mariner 3 failed due to technical issues and was on course to miss Mars by several million miles.
