Lord of the Rings Fanatics Plaza

So I’ve been thinking for some time that we need some games in here, so I’ve decided to get imaginative and create a series of games. So, being brilliant, I decided I’m going to call them, drumroll please, The Gondorian Games. In any case, I am working on creating five games, run one at a time like individual sports in the Olympics. My idea is to run them one at a time as I don’t have the to keep that many threads updated. I have a solid idea on the first, a Tolkien trivia game that I hope to have up and running soon, and the second will be a horse race in Ithilien (held by Faramir in honor of Eowyn). I have some not well drawn out ideas for the other three, but since my imagination could use a little assistance, does anyone have any vague or detailed ideas for a game they’d like to see or participate in?

Ooooh, Durien, that sounds fun! Random ideas: archery; skateboarding/cart racing/somesuch down the circles of MT; some sort of paintball; cooking competition... *goes back to work*

@Durien that is a wonderful idea ! I was going to suggest a scavenger hunt but I see they’re doing one of those in Rohan already. Cart racing though, @Pele Alarion That would be a real nostalgia hit ! And really, what is the point of living in such a high circled city if you can’t race something down the heights ?! :smiley8:

I found a way to include a cooking challenge Pele. And I love it, muwhahaha!

All of your suggestions have inspired me. I’m reluctant to recreate races as they used to be, primarily because I don’t have the knowledge of how they were run before to successfully recreate them. I think I can incorporate many of the ideas into new and hopefully interesting games. I opened a sign up thread for the games, and hope to have the first ones going up soon

Looking forward to it already! Not sure if I'll be able to compete in the trivia round; Tuesday 9pmEST won't be an option for me in any case, since then it's 3pm here and I'll need to be working XD But the weekend days might work, we'll see XD

I was just trying for variety on dates and times. If Tuesday is generally obnoxious I can bump it to the weekend. I was trying to give everyone a chance to play, but without all the inherent problems that used to pop up in IK drill. By making it a short speed event at a set time, you avoid the the worst of the issues that plagued drill, but it also creates its own issues.

lol... I might have issues with time too, but will participate as much as I can!

Hey all-- maybe this conversation has already happened, and I missed it-- but I really love some of the archive threads popping up on the Plaza in various areas.

I really like what Dwim's done over here in the Shire, and would love to have a Gondor one.

I like that format it's in, and the organization-- and the listing of rulers, etc.

Has anyone started anything like this for Gondor already / have an interest in a Gondor one?

@Mor Toast That looks like a great idea, but a lot of work. I might be able to help talk through who was when etc.

It would be fun to reminisce (I've been doing plenty of that myself :smiley8: ) but I do have one comment.
While I can definitely see the value of links to old threads to reread and relive the fun / refresh our minds about some past RP/fun/games/etc, and I fully support anyone willing to take on such a Herculean effort, I am in doubt about the added value of a list of past rulers/scr's/mayors/etc. The people who used to be rulers/mayors/held scr's don't hold those ranks anymore anyway, and I'm afraid listing everyone who was "in power" or got "appreciated" in the past, might make others feel left out because they were never a ruler or an scr or held any lofty ranks at some point or other... I don't know?

About the SCR/Ruler icons, there is a thread in Cottage of Lost Play where they are collecting them all :) @Arnyn

Also it makes the thread load more slowly when there are a lot of icons :P Found that out the hard way lol as I was doing icons in my archive thread.

Fair points, @Arnyn. And I see that a separate Cottage thread has been made to separate out ruler icons and figure out timelines now, in addition to the general icon thread.

I know Naith was made ruler in 2003 and Hoyamir and Mathen Nors were before him.

After a little digging, I found the old Dol Amroth region on old Plaza. In case it is of interest ! As per recent posts/conversation in the Rangers OOC thread on the DA subject. :smiley10:

The 'On a Clear Day' RPG is also accessible to read, which is the joust/invasion adventure that I was remembering !

And on that note, would anybody object to our having at least one Dol Amroth Free RP thread in Nu Plaza Gondor ? Or at least our being permitted to RP in that setting within the Free RP thread which has been already created ? That one currently apparently excludes RP set in the Southern Fiefdoms of Gondor , almost as though there was thought for a separate thread for those Southern Fiefdoms.

@Ercassie - I agree with Windy. Go bonkers. I can also give you the reason, though: the Northern Fiefdoms RP thread Toasty recovered and reworked hails from the Regions era and the Northern Fiefdoms Free RP was located in MT subforum of the Shadowed Lands. Dol Amroth had its own subforum and the southern fiefdoms were RP'ed in there. :smiley8:

I put up a Dungeon thread as it didnt seem like anyone was really wanting to do it, but I made a Gondrian write it! <3

Oh yes, the Free RP thread I created was not intended to be exclusionary of the Southern Fiefdoms-- I combined whatever free RP threads I could find (since especially at the beginning, I wasn't sure how much interest there would be, so was consolidating)-- but yeah, it's a free for all! Create away! Also, if you have anything you think should be there or shouldn't in that OP, feel free to let me know; I'm happy to edit and make adjustments as well.

@Arnyn thankyou for the explanation ! I did think it was strange but that properly makes sense now.

@Burnt Toast, did you have anything stored anywhere in preparation for a southern fiefdoms thread ? I recall you were mayor of DA for a while back when.

I utterly agree that particularly with things being so new, there is no need to have a separate thread for absolutely every possible potential RP setting. That is where the regions stretched thin like butter over too much bread. But I think perhaps a thread which incorporates things such as Dol Amroth, Ithilien and Harondor perhaps might prove of some use.

The Rangers of Ithilien may no longer be a part of our recognised RP military, but chances to explore the land where Faramir holds sway does offer new intrigue for fourth age RP.

Dol Amroth, well there are several ICs now kicking about who boast a history/backstory in that region and the likelihood of RPing out their lives/relatives there could be a refreshing change, focusing upon the nautical side of RP.

Harondor, well, this is Gondor: we’ve been trying to own Harondor for literally centuries ! Again, a different landscape for potential RP. The notion of what it’s state might be after the War, etc ? But I’m apparently maybe preaching to the converted here.

If there’s an entire thread just for criminal shenanigans @Winddancer :smiley8:, I’m sure some southern RP could equally hold its own. I’ll see what I can gather up. Even if it only becomes an inclusion of descriptions to add to the existing northern Fiefdoms thread. Thanks.

I've dug through my drive and notes from running things, but unfortunately I either didn't have anything drafted yet, or hadn't saved it to my drive somewhere useful. I'm all for some DA action!

The conclusion will be to send her to the Royal dungeons, where someone else will be taking over there. (got that lined up, so just need the initial interrogation or more like attempted interrogation :P)

Yes, thank you Ercassie for making the new thread. Although I've never written much actually in the location of Ziran's home, it is nice to have Anfalas and the green hills an option, as they are rarely included.
