The dwarves were so uncomfortable above ground that they used umbrellas to simulate the crushing weight of thousands of tons of dirt and rock.

Kili was beginning to be a bit suspicious of the whole "umbrellas will keep you safe from roving bands of orcs and other disasters" thing, but Fili was just happy his looked like a peppermint.
