I do just want to say that I am enjoying terrorizing all the shopkeepers with my presence, but please, let me know if anything gets to be too much. I know you've all worked hard at figuring out your shops and everything else that is going on with the scavenger hunt.

I'm so grateful people overcame their fear of my stupidly long and complicated rules to sign up to the Tournament, and so excited to see them all beating the daylights out of each other. Thanksies (jumps up and down)

So by way of update to people:-

I've chatted to a lot of people off-plaza and in discord chats about how to properly wrap up the festival and celebrate all the winners when there are a bunch of minions eager to burn everything down.

By way of compromise, @Shivased and I will be opening a festival after-party thread to enjoy some brief drinking and socialising, have a big cheer and round of applause for each of the competition winners, and celebrate everyone's contributions to the festival overall by handing out some special awards to people for their multi-thread engagement. If you have any nominations for any such awards please contact either Shivased or myself (privately if possible so we can surprise people in the thread).

IT'S PARTY TIME

The after-party thread will likely begin before all the festival events are actually finished so there may be a little overlap in time. I can see that the Bath-Tub Race and the M Meduseld pageant have already finished. Both the Badger Chase and the Scavenger Hunt appear to be wrapping up. Campian is progressing swiftly so I imagine after the next round is over (Thur) we will move to sudden death.
:fence:
That said, the last couple of threads being tied off at the same time as beginning the party should not stop people from being able to show up in their party-gowns, role-play chatting about their experiences and enjoying the buffet and drinks. When the last competition thread is finished either Shiva or I will do a big IC announcement declaring all the winners so they can each have their moment centre stage in a kind of catwalk-like manner.
:encore:
I suggest each winner is allowed to write their own entrance/cat-walk speech that poor Allacan or Shivased have to read out; Mx Meduseld @Sil and Team 'Drowned in the Rapids' @Queen Nerwen and @Balfur feel free to send yours to Shiva and I privately. We can ask the Badger Chase, Scavenger Hunt and Campian Tournament winners to write theirs once a winner is declared.

The in-character event itself will take place in the re-decorated M Meduseld pageant tent just outside the city walls of Edoras, and to ensure no interruption of anyone's fun, I have had assurances from the 'Minion & Co' contingent that they will not burn anything down until the after-party thread is due to close (stern look at the mischief makers).

Shiva and I will try and get the opening post up in the next few days but in the meantime anyone who wants to role-play as helping to set up the after-party (e.g. bringing food and drink for the buffet, putting up decorations, make a futile attempt to clear away all the leftover bright pink sequins, secreting some fireworks away ready for a surprise display, etc) please feel free to post in the remnant thread of Mx Meduseld and we will attempt to honour your contributions in the after-party opening post. However we would ask that you please not interfere in anyone else's preparations though.

And lastly, a few of us put our heads together to try and figure out the general time-line of the festival to help with consistency of our own role-play. It is by no means strict and is timey-wimey all over the place, so feel free to completely ignore it or adapt it if it breaks your own timeline, but in case it helps any other people I will share it here:-

- The festival took place over three days
- The M Meduseld pageant took place over all 3 days and ran alongside nearly all the other events, with each round taking place on different days
- The Festival Fairgrounds similarly took place over all 3 days and is the most timey-wimey wibbly-wobbly thread of them all
- The Badger Chase took place on Day 1 or Day 2 (probably Day 1)
- The Bath-Tub Race took place on Day 1 or Day 2 (probably Day 2)
- The Campian Tournament takes place on Day 3 immediately after the last round of M Meduseld
- The after-party takes place a few hours after Campian finishes (to give time for people to lick their wounds, smooth their ego, have a wash, and get changed into all their finery for the big ball)

Any questions please feel free to ask.

P.S. On a separate note, @Eldrith:- If we are going to open a whole new pub so people can reflect back on the activities of the festival, can I ask that we please at least allow those who were already RPing in there a few days to wrap up their pre-festival story-lines while the after party is ongoing, and then maybe open a new pub when the after party thread closes?

@Allafyrefleorhtlig AWESOME! I love it, especially the timeline! I never even thought of that given how wibbly-wobbly the plaza is in general. Can't wait to chat more and get the OP ready, and start the fun!

@Allafyrefleorhtlig I think for now we can definitely keep the riddermarket/ foodstalls open. Do you think the new thread (continuation of the pub we closed down for the festival) Should run concurrently or after?

@Eldrith maybe re-open the old pub to run at the same time as the after party for a week, but giving people a date when it will close (IC “last orders”) so they can wrap up their rp if they want, then open a new tavern after that.

@Allafyrefleorhtlig I am a bit confused what I am supposed to do exactly. I am not necessarily acquainted with cat-walk speeches  Also, how do I send things privately?

@Balfur Imagine you turned up to a big party, and someone at the door has to announce to the room your name, what amazing things you have done, how awesome you are, etc.when you come in.

It could be like the introductions in 'Knight's Tale' film or in 'Miss Congeniality', it could be a song like at the beginning of a wrestling/boxing match, or the introduction stand up comedians sometimes have before they come on stage. It can be as serious or as silly as you like, and can include your Festival title along with any other title you have/fancy giving yourself.

You can either send it to me on Discord, where I am Beorhtlig#1176 or by email at [email protected] (Allacan). Or you can post it here in white text and we will trust people not to peek :smooch:

If you don't feel keen on doing it yourself, I am happy to write one for you.

I hope that makes sense :smooch:

EDIT:-

IT'S PARTY TIME

The Riddermark Summer Festival After-Party is now open. Come drink, dine and dance, hear the official announcement of each of the Festival Event's winners, and find out if you have been lucky enough to win one of the special award.

@Lirimaer Hey, if you show up in the After Party tent, as a heads up, there's been quite a bit of development in Éomund's character over the last few days. He's an awkward teen who has just joined the Cavalry. I guess I can keep the semi-competent boating aspect of his character, but discard any comments about him being a married individual.

@Dimcairien Luiniel Okay, good to know! I probably won't end up there as Laewyn, tbh - she's off to become a healer, but I'll bear it in mind. Best wishes for the awkward teen years!!!

@Amadhrill I always prefer audience participation over the GM doing everything. We have an injured @Turin Ringhûn in need of a healer in Campian; do you want to give him a hand? Or shall Allacan fix him up when I put up my next post?

Ama will come for @Turin Ringhûn, @Allafyrefleorhtlig , poor Alla is very busy after all. ;)

Edit: Seems like he is already taken care of

@Amadhrill Aren’t they lovely, these Gondorians, healing themselves back to good health. I think they could teach our minion delegation a trick or two.

Thanks for being willing though Ama, maybe next time 😘

@Allafyrefleorhtlig I really don't know what to do with the whole "yield" thing, I've been playing this assuming some kind of "3 strikes" rule in effect like I've seen at SCA fights etc., enforced by judges (or an honor system), not a submission/surrender result. Actually I think you threw that in before (when Taeth went down?) and I just ignored it then because I couldn't figure out how to put it into a continuous melee, but this time you've roped @Arnyn in as well.

@Elvheimdros

“Yield” (verb) give way to arguments, demands or pressure. To concede, surrender or capitulate.

The rules state that after a competitor has lost their last life they are expected to yield (I.e except defeat) and quit the field voluntarily;-
Allafyrefleorhtlig wrote: Thu Jun 25, 2020 7:27 pm For those interested (the detailed mechanics):-

1) Every competitor enters the same arena. The melee is a free-for-all that begins as soon as the horn is sounded.
2) Each player has 3 'lives'. If you lose your last life, you are eliminated and must yield to your opponent(s) and leave the arena.
In my mind, Allacan hasn’t actually been eliminating anyone, but some people have chosen to godmode her calling ‘out’ because it isn’t fitting for their character to just give in, and I’m ok with that. Sometimes people’s injuries make it sufficient alone that they are out, sometimes not. Either way, any opponent who has been bested or does not wish to risk injury in continuing the fight may yield. I think IC it could be a confusing mixture of all three.

But sometimes I want to ensure particularly feisty people definitely don’t get injured or can leave with respect (CoughEldrithcough), so I have occasionally godmoded Elvh asking for someone to accept defeat; it seemed to fit with his honourable nature. I apologise however if this has confused you or upset you; I can certainly edit it out of my earlier updates of you prefer?

Ah, I see. I think it's fine to leave it in, I just wasn't sure what was going on there.

If people are trying to post in a festival thread but can't because it is locked, that is my fault. See my post here for an explanation, and if I have caused you any annoyance, upset or confusion then I sincerely apologise.
