(Banner by @Dimcairien Luiniel)

It’s a beautiful day in Fangorn Forest, and you are not a deranged squirrel - unless you particularly want to be!

You do have a mission. A purpose. A juicy, delicious, thirst-quenching purpose. The sun is beaming down merrily above and what you really need is a drink. But not just any drink! Treebeard has promised a reward to anyone who can fetch him delicious fruit and berries to improve the taste of his latest batch of Entdraught.

As you wander through the forest, what fruits will you find, and what will you take? What combination will you choose before Treebeard makes his final judgment?

HOW THIS WILL WORK

You will RP wandering through the forest and choosing paths according to options that I, the GM, will give you. When you see signs of fruits and berries you will be given the option to pick them (how many you get will be determined by die roll).

Once you have enough fruits you will find your way to Wellinghall, where Treebeard is waiting for your juice! You will be able to make various combinations based on what you’ve collected (e.g. two raspberries, a blackberry, four red currants) to try to reach Treebeard’s IDEAL combination. Pay attention to what Treebeard likes and doesn’t like: who will create the ideal drink?!

JUICING RULES

- you may combine as many ingredients as you like, but it must be at least two to create a proper entdraught cocktail
- Treebeard will react by saying he likes something about the drink or he doesn’t like something about the drink. Your job is to figure out what he wants
- Once you have “found” a location, you may travel back to it in your choices (I’ll make this clear with prompts)
- Some berries may be bad - if you juice all your berries at once and get a bad one, you’ll have to go pick more!!

GENERAL GAME RULES

- no all bold, and no gifs, please
- I will play Treebeard and have godmode powers as GM - no godmoding by anyone else unless with prior agreement via OOC
- any disputes will be solved by bees
- You may play as any character. You may also play as multiple characters. If you wish to play a canon character, please clear it with me in the OOC (but should be fine, just to ensure we don’t have duplicates). Your characters may play as a team, or solo, but if you’re a team you’ll only get one chance per round to pick your activity, and if you’re solo, you won’t magically know the places your other characters have discovered
- Double posting is fine within reason (for different characters, a day elapsing etc) but you’ll only be able to choose an action per update
- Post your action and your location in bold at the top or bottom of your post. I’ll keep track of your fruit but it wouldn’t hurt to state those either

GO GET SOME FRUIT

Opening prompt:

You wander through the Forest, everything in dappled light and bloom. Rich scents drift through the air. Which track do you choose?

Mister Black (Mirkwood Squirrel)

Mister Black squeezed out of his den (he had put on some weight in his new forest home, his old haunt, Mirkwood, having not been as plentiful), and gazed down from the great Willow into the dappled forest below. He suddenly caught the scent of something sweet wafting in the air. His little round belly rumbled and his nose twitched.
He scuttled-waddled down his tree. He could use something sweet, or so his rumbling belly told him, and headed off in the direction where the chestnuts and white birch grew.

Three Raccoons

Well they'd eaten all of their nuts. Now was the season of berries and the three brothers were not the type to miss out on perfectly good food. Indeed they would be right in the thick of it even if they could not see where they were going. Well at least two of them could not because Hob was in the front followed by Bob and then of course Reginald the Third as they marched into the forest to try to find berries not understanding that they shouldn't just eat them that there was some sort of prize or something if they appeased the giant walking tree god thing.

it didn't matter they were heading....

With their war helms atop their heads (both were too young to fight being only in their mid twenties but dreamed of the day when they could), Nýr and Fár stood under the eaves of the legendary Fangorn Forest and peered in. They had heard many tales in their short lives about the old forest. Tales that had been passed down from generation to generation from none other than the famous dwarf, Gimli son of Glóin. These stories had intrigued the two young dwarves enough that they had made the journey to the forest to discover for themselves whether or not the tales were true. And so...

"You first", said Nýr
"No, no!', said Fár. " You are always Nýr! I am always Fár! You go first and I follow!"
"Bah! Alright scaredy-britches! Here I go!"

And off he marched into the forest, his companion not to far behind him.

East please!

Pita the Cat

A pair of luminous green eyes peer out from the bushes. They open and close with the lazy air instinctive of Supreme Master of Laze, which is, well...a cat. The leaves part around her like servants as the tortoiseshell feline slinks out with her tail held high. If you ask her, this is her forest: Pita-land.

Yes, she is aware she was named after some kind of sandwich. It does not amuse her. Mentioning it may earn the offending party claws to the face. It was humans who named her. Sadly, it stuck. Where were those humans now, you wonder? Long gone. Pita the cat was not abandoned by them. No, no. In her version of history (the only true one of course), she chose to leave them. She is better off without them. Pita slinks off toward...

I should note - and will say so in the rules above - that you will have a carry limit!

@Afird Splitax
Mr Black wanders off west through the forest. Good fortune to him! Almost immediately he comes across some BLUEBERRIES. Do you take them, or leave them?

The Terrible Twins decide (eventually) to go East! No fruit here, but plenty of LEAVES AND A LARGE STICK. Do you take them, or leave them? (You may take just the leaves, or just the stick, or both. Or neither)

@Fuin Elda
The Raccoons are marching east! They find lots of LEAVES AND A LARGE STICK. Do you take them, or leave them? (You may take just the leaves, or just the stick, or both. Or neither)

@Lailyn
Pita patters to the North, where there are lots of lovely flowers, but no fruit yet. Do you take any flowers? There are ROSES, ELDERFLOWER, and VIOLET.

Fox and Vicki

Vicki rode on her friend's back, holding onto the fur on his back, as Fox trotted along the forest path. She was a purple squirrel, the only one she knew, and not by choice. Other squirrels had often told her that it was her own fault for sneaking into the Elvenking's halls but Vicki couldn't have known that they were doing some redecorating inside the mountain. And besides, elven children were unpredictable, and she'd learned that day not to trust them. Her fur had originally been white but a jar of purple color had been poured over her. Fox had comforted her that it would wear off and she would soon be white again, but now five years later, she was still purple.

When they reached a fork in the road they stopped, looking down each new path in turn. As rich scents came their way, they tried to decide where they came from, but a moment later they were in agreement.

Well Twigs and Leaves. They'd seen this nonsense before. It was a bloody forest it was all sticks and leaves. Reginald the THird of course chewed on the large stick in a rather inquisitive manner before Bob and Hob dragged him off leaving both items behind though the stick was admittedly a little worse for wear than it had been when they'd arrived.

With a bit of sniffing and standing on their back legs trying to catch sight of some information that would help them with their decision Hob and Bob finally decided that it would probably be best if they kept marching the way they were. After all the worst thing that could happen was they would escape this drat forest into Rohan where they'd gotten help from a horse to raid the royal pantry. They assumed it was the royal pantry. It was royalish looking to them after all.

Mister Black (Mirkwood Squirrel)

Waddling along, not in any particular hurry and also because his new extra bulk made it harder to skitter along, Mister Black came upon some blueberries growing nicely on a low bush in a sandy area. Eating a few to satisfy his growling belly, he stuff more into his cheeks and continued on his way.

Pick them , qua qua!

With their war helms atop their heads (both were too young to fight being only in their mid twenties but dreamed of the day when they could), Nýr and Fár looked around the forest. There was a large pile of sticks and leaves in front of them. Walking up to it, they decided to take a stick each for protection sake.
"You first", said Nýr
"No, no!', said Fár. " You are always Nýr! I am always Fár! You go pick first and I pick after!"
"Bah! Alright fuzzy face! Here I go!"

And he picked a stick, and he marched further into the forest, his companion not to far behind him with stick in hand..

Take a stick each please!

Pita the Cat

Pita is momentarily distracted by a flying thing. A moth! She stretches her neck out and her head bobs this way and that way, following it. It flies away. "Mrrw!" she complains. Wait, what was she doing? Oh, right, nothing. Because cat.

Sniffing the air for better prey, she smells flowers. Roses are very dangerous so she stays well away from them. Those thorns are Trouble with a capital T. She rolls around in the violets but there is no pleasant side-effect like with nip. "Meh" she says, unimpressed, and nibbles a bit of elderflower...just to try...since she can now. Her humans hated when she ate plants and left piles of green goo to moisten their toesies.

Pita takes elderflowers

The Three Brothers

Will they'd found flowers. Fantastic. Reginald was absolutely thrilled by this and immediately set out in making himself a crown featuring both dandelions and violets. Hob and Bob for their part watched their idiot brother with mild contempt but did wait for him after all he'd saved their hides a few times so they would only mildly begrudge him these flowers.

After a few minutes Reginald the Third put his flower crown on and then to the amazement of Hob and Bob put one on each of their heads as well. With that done they did manage to start moving on again, at least they reasoned both Dandelions and violets were edible so if they got too hungry they'd be able to eat the crowns that they were wearing.

Taking both Dandelions and Violets (If that's okay if not just Dandelions) and continuing on East.

Mister Black (Mirkwood Squirrel)

Mister Black could not keep the blueberries in his cheeks for too much longer or else, he would eat them. So he chewed off a big leaf and wrapped the berries in it. He then used a stingy stem and, with his neat little paws, twirled the stem around the wrapped leaf and then his leg. He then continued on his way(much slower now, for he had added more weight to his already heftiness'), dragging the leaf bag behind him.

With their war helms still atop their heads (both were too young to fight, being only in their mid-twenties but dreamed of the day when they could), Nýr and Fár stood gazing about the forest. They both had their sticks on the ready if someone or something tried to harm them. A trickle of sweat ran down the side of Fár's head. He was behind his brother, of course, and he was terribly nervous, for he knew they had to keep going, and he knew sooner than later he would hear Nýr say.

"You first", said Nýr
"No, no!', gasped Fár. " You know you are always Nýr, and I am always Fár! You start first, and I will follow!"
"Bah! Alright, shiver whiskers! Here I go!"

And he hiked up his britches and started walking, his brother moving close behind him, stick at the ready.

Mister Black (Mirkwood Squirrel)

Mister Black had to stop once to repair his leaf, but soon he was on his way again, his make-shift swag dragging along behind him. Although he hadn't thought about it, this trek would probably be good for losing some of that winter weight he had gained. Mind you; his nose did detect something sweet ahead, causing his stomach to growl. Unless he trekked more than he ate, he would never lose weight. Following your nose seem to be the right choice.

With their war helms still atop their heads (both were too young to fight, being only in their mid-twenties but dreamed of the day when they could), Nýr and Fár halted on their westward trek. The sun was setting, thankfully. The July weather had sweat running off the tip of both dwarves' noses. There was nothing but trees, moss and strange plants with strange coloured fruit growing on them. They hadn't needed their sticks to defend themselves, only to swat at the insects that buzzed around their heads. It was time to go in a different direction.

"Let us turn around and go back the way we came," said Nýr. "You first,"
"No, no!', said Fár wiping sweat from his brow. " You know you are always Nýr, and I am always Fár! You start first, and I will follow!"
"Bah! Alright, shaking-in-your-dwarf-boots! Here I go!"

And wiping the sweat from his brow, Nýr turned around and headed back the way they had come. His brother was right behind him, huffing and puffing in the summer heat.

What luck! Cherries! and sooo many of them that they could stuff their gobs for days and not run out they were scrambling up the tree to get some of the sweet treats when they saw... They weren't sure what it was so they puffed up and stood up and showed their teeth, which were very impressive compared to this tiny animals teeth (at least in their minds) but after a few minutes they decided that it wasn't really a threat - after all between the three of them they were certain that they could rip it to bits and eat it if it threatened them, and honestly they'd already threatened it...

With that they resumed climbing up the tree to pick and eat some cherries which would only be improved if there was a nice puddle of water somewhere to was them, but alas there was not.

The Brothers pick Cherries and decide to head North

The cherries are completely ignored. Did you see the trio of raccoons?!

Pita’s tail puffs up thrice its size and her back arches so far she almost curls into a ball. She hisses and spits at them (from a safe distance) practically mirroring their own reaction. They do not seem very intimidated. This is highly offensive to her -- she is Pita, Elite Meowstress of Tooth, Paw and Claw! Mice tremble in fear at her very frightening name and birds, well they should stick to the skies if they want to keep tweeting!

Pita bounds off to the North after them. They will not get away from this meowsterful huntress so easily! Somehow, in her time in the wilds of Pita-land (*authorcoughFangorn*), this cat has not yet learned this lesson: do not pick fights with animals who outnumber and outsize her.

The drat fluffy thing was following them and they looked back at it as it followed them with their mitts filled with dandelions and violets and cherries it was a bit hard to do much to the feline for the moment but Hob and Bob both looked back at it showing their teeth some more and chirping aggressively telling them to back off or they'd bite.

Reginald for his part was confused by the whole thing and wanted to pet the pretty kitty now that he realized what it was that was following them. He shoved the cherries that he was carrying into his brothers hands and bounded towards the kitty squealing in raccoon speak "PRETTY KITTY" with absolutely no regard for his own health and Bob and Hob were happy to let him learn that lesson on his own.

Mr Black has continued North, where he finds an apple tree! Only a few have fallen to the ground, but as a Squirrel it should be no problem for you should you wish to take some more. You may take some apples if you wish to add to your blueberries, and then head NORTH or SOUTH.

The Twins have gone back East - back the way they came! Would you like to continue EAST, or go back WEST - again?!

@Lailyn Pita ignores the cherries and, armed with her elderflowers, trots NORTH, where she reaches TREEBEARD's GROVE! Congratulations! Here you may mix up a cocktail of your pleasing! There are three huge pitchers full of Entdraught, as well as clear water flowing nearby. What do you choose to make, and how do you make it?
Your ingredients: ELDERFLOWERS, ENTDRAUGHTS 1, 2 and 3, WATER.

@Fuin Elda - The raccoons grab the cherries and scamper away from the cat, heading north - or, at least, two of you do. You have violets, dandelions, and cherries - and also 3 varieties of entdraught and some clear spring water to choose to make a drink! What do you make, and how?
Your ingredients: VIOLETS, DANDELIONS, CHERRIES

@Tar-Elestirnë - Vicki and Fox still where they were!

Three Brothers (Well two of them for now)

"WATER! PERFECT!" Squealed Bob and Hob as they caught sight of the water and the entrdraught. They ran over to the pitchers as quickly as they could with their arms full of cherries, grateful that the flowers were on their heads as crowns. They sniffed and lapped at the water and then at the drinks in the pitchers (which could be a terrible thing honestly) before they tossed their Cherries in it splashing it around happily debating on eating them now that they were properly cleaned. After a moment Bob being the drinker of the brothers grabbed his fancy flower crown and pulled the violets out of it and tossed them in as well washing them in with the cherries.

It was just about ready to be consumed Bob was certain chirping happily at his brother Hob who was looking to see what had happened to Reginald the third who had run off to pet the 'pretty kitty'.

They wondered what had happened to their brother and the cat not seeing them quite yet...

Mister Black (Mirkwood Squirrel)

Mister Blackcould use a few more fruits in his diet. Seeds and nuts went right to one's guts, mind they were a nutrition treat. Having followed his nose, the black squirrel came upon an apple tree. He investigated the ones on the ground. They appeared to have been there for some time, rotten and insect-infested. Now typically, he would have eaten them, for, in Mirkwood, apples had been hard to come by. But here in his new home, he had no such problem finding food in general. And so, looking up, he spotted the apple he wanted hanging nicely from a branch. Leaving his leaf-pack, he scuttled up the tree. He ran out onto the slender limb and plucked the apple off as quickly as can be. He then dropped it neatly to the ground not far from his pack.

A short time later, he was on his way again; apple tucked in with the berries, his leaf-pack heavier than ever but, he felt better. He was melting fat by tugging a leaf-like sack.

With their war helms now askew atop their heads (both were too young to fight, being only in their mid-twenties but dreamed of the day when they could), Nýr and Fár flopped down on a log for a well-deserved rest. The forest was quite stuffy and hot. The two young dwarves were unaccustomed to the high humidity. Moping his face, Nýr said.
"Let us turn around and go back the way we came,"
"No, no!', said Fár wiping sweat from his brow. " We have already gone that way! What is the use of going back the way we just came? Let us continue East the way we first arrived. If we do not discover anything interesting, we can leave by exiting the forest. "
"Bah! fine, Mr. Logic! "You first!"
Nýr rolled his eyes in exasperation. " You know you are always Nýr, and I am always Fár! Why must I constantly remind you! You start first, and I will follow!"
Too hot to even argue with his twin, Nýr rose to his feet and began walking. His brother was not far behind him. Both dwarves had forgotten all about their sticks, leaving them leaning on the log.

Pita the Cat

Two of the raccoons finally react the way she wants them to: with teeth!! Pita spits at them. Ahh how satisfying! The third raccoon chitters some nonsense at her and approaches. Confused by his lack of fear and/or aggression, she opens her mouth wide, showing her fierce canines and yawns. The message is clear from her point of view: “I could kill you in an instant but I am bored with how easy it would be.”

Flicking her tail back and forth, she approaches the pitchers with mild disinterest. She flicks one over on its side, sending its contents spilling. “Mrrw!” she says with pride. Did anyone else see that expert cat-ing?!

After sniffing the other two, she dunks her elderflowers into Entdraught 1 with a smidgen of Entdraught 3 and absolutely stays very, very far away from the evil wet water!!

UPDATE FIVE!! I found the map!!!

@Fuin Elda

You mix your cherries and violets with Entdraught 1!
You are alarmed as Treebeard himself creaks to life and asks you for a taste.

“Hoom, hoom,” he says thoughtfully “I like TWO of these ingredients together, but not the other one!”

You may try again or go out gathering more ingredients by going SOUTH

@Afird Splitax
Mr Black goes NORTH! He finds a tree laden with CHESTNUTS. Do you take them? I mean I presume you do, being a squirls. You may now choose to go SOUTH OR EAST

The Twins have come across BLUEBERRIES! do you take them? You can now choose to go NORTH, EAST OR WEST again

@Lailyn

Pita tries mixing elderflower with entdraught 1 and 3!

Treebeard having tasted the raccoon drink moves on to yours. He looks thoughtful. “Only two of these ingredients work, and I don’t like to mix entdraught,” he says cryptically (and verrrry slowwwwly. “I think it could do with something more…” See, my delayed updates are just in character). Do you try again or go out for more supplies SOUTH?

Mister Black (Mirkwood Squirrel)

Mister Black now felt fit as a fiddle; back to his old spry self. He had been walking north for some time when he came upon a tree laden with chestnuts. His big eyes bulged in his head when he saw the amount hanging there for the taking. The only problem was that he would not manage many by himself as his leaf-pack was already heavy with fruit. Pausing for a moment, he could think of only one thing to do. Standing on his hind legs, he began to call out in a high-pitched chirp. This call was usually used by young squirrels calling their mother. But could also be used to communicate with a friend.
Mister Black waited, calling occasional and standing up straight and looking around nervously several times. Shortly a brown squirrel came running towards him; Mister Brown.

Image
Mister Brown (Fangorn Squirrel)

They touched noses and chattered away, glad to see each other. Soon, they were on their way; chestnuts galore were tucked in with the apple and the berries. The leaf-pack was heavy, but Mister Black now had a friend to help him and chat with. Life was good in Fangorn.

Taking as many chestnuts as we can.

With their war helms once more sitting straight atop their heads (both were too young to fight, only in their mid-twenties but dreamed of the day when they could), Nýr and Fár came upon a blueberry patch. The berries were big and blue and ready for picking. Smiles curled their lips as they lay down their packs and advanced towards the fruit, sacks in hand. But before they had a chance to pick their fill, the bushes behind the blueberries moved, then shook, and out came a big black bear.

The twins froze in their tracks. The bear gazed at them unconcerned, then sat down and began pulling the berries off the bush with its long pink tongue. Backing up slowly, the dwarves distanced themselves from the creature. When they felt safe, the bear being engrossed in eating all the berries and not two young dwarfs, they whispered to each other.

'If only we had our sticks,' Nýr whispered. 'We could protect ourselves, at least.' And for once, Nýr did not have to make the mistake of telling his brother to go first. For now, Fár was closer to their sticks than Nýr as he was behind his brother. And he turned and ran back lickety-split the way they came, his brother now following him.

Going back West, please!

Three Brothers

They scattered as the tree moved. Trees aren't suppose to move. AND THEN IT DRANK THEIR FOOD WATER!!!

WHAT was wrong with this place? The three brothers quickly regrouped together and looked at each other whispering quietly amongst themselves what they'd do with this strange new information. Could they use this tree as a weapon against mean bears? Maybe. AND THEN IT SPOKE and they scattered again shrieking as only raccoons can shriek to absolute high heavens.

Of course they did actually catch that it said it like two of the ingredients that they'd used. so after several minutes of calming down they decided to see if they could try again see if they could make the creepy talking tree a friend... use it against mean bears. This is what Hob Bob and Reginald the Third reminded themselves as they crept forward deciding to try again with the water stuffs.

This time they tried Cherries with Ent Draught 1
