Dear plaza members,

it’s been a whole year since Narv first made his guilty confession to me in the middle of the night that he had done something horrible and didn’t know what to do about it. Hastily checking my PayPal for bail money, I was delighted to be informed that no, what Narv had actually done was not the supreme Canadian crime of bumping into an inanimate object without immediately saying “sorry”, but somehow, by accident, recreated the Plaza.

Once I was done laughing I had a browse. We told Uruva, one of the other few people Narv could still remember on Facebook. She also had a fit of hysterics. But the site looked... great. Many memories came back to life. I’m sure many of you felt the same way when you returned.

The timing was fortuitous. Worldwide, people had been receiving bad news, had been told to stay safe and away from others. The Plaza Facebook group was crying out for a revival: and here we had Narv with his guilty little secret, all shiny and new. What better way to reconnect with old friends?

We had a chat with Peeg, and some of the former admin team, who generously gave us some advice and, from Peeg, permission to re-use his deliciously nostalgic artwork. After a week of Uruva and I industriously trying to break the website (please see Hard Truths for more), it was time to let everyone back in...

And so it’s been a year! A whole year of Narvlaza! I’m so glad to have had it and reconnected with so many of you - some whom I didn’t even play with so much in the early days. Once again, my thanks and love to Narv, who gave up a lot of his time (and money) into this project, and to everyone else: all of you - who have been with us along the way.

Happy Nuplazaversary everyone!

A lot can happen and has happened in a year... The long March of 2020 (yes, that's what I'm calling it, sue me ) was one of the most difficult periods in my life, and I think not just in my life. Having the Plaza back has been such a good thing for me and writing posts, RP-ing, reading other people's posts, talking with fellow Plaza members had such a positive impact on my life and it helped me get through a bleak period.

I might be an old and slow turtle who's not always around much and I take too long to post being old and slow (you'll see when you get to my age kids ) but the NuPlaza is a good place and I'm glad that it's here and that you're all here. You make my life a brighter place.

My fondest memories over the span of sixteen years, countless impactful moments in life, and honing my writing skills I am grateful of the Plaza for. As the world becomes an increasingly darker place, I can always find a satisfying measure of peace in the Plaza's sheltering light. I am blessed for the unexpected joy it's given me since 2020. I am thankful to have reconnected with long-time close friends on site and Discord, revisiting and redeveloping histories of our beloved characters in the roleplaying areas and sharing laughter in the OOC corners. The Plaza is a strong bastion of solace for me outside of my faith and I hope it continues to stand strong for decades.

Happy Narvlaversary to all!

It's been a wild, intense, rollercoaster of a year, and the Plaza has been a welcome bright spot amidst everything. I am so glad that this community exists and so thankful to our dear cave troll, Narv, for bringing it back to life. It's been wonderful reconnecting with old friends and making new ones!

Honestly I was quite sad that I did not find it sooner. I'll admit I'd done a search in April (no dice then lol) and then again in September when I promptly found it and dug myself in like the wee goblin I am (how I'm not a member of Mordor is beyond me.)

But I can say that I was super excited to see it back, even more excited to see who was in charge. and then further chuffed at just who was here and active and what was going on and that I could once again be a part of the Plaza

I cannot thank you all enough for the love and support and fun that I've been given over the past year, all the stories and shenanigans I've been able to read and take part in, and the adventures that have filled my misanthropic, hermit cup to overflowing. This year was a tough one for a lot of us for a lot of different reasons, but we are able to come together onto the Plaza, @Narv you are a magnificent bastard, and reignite or begin new friendship that have helped get through it. I am beyond fortunate that I've been allowed to be a member of this place once more, I am humbled that you've all accepted me and let me get goblin snot all over everything (sorry about that, no I'm not cleaning it up). I owe you all a lot, a debt I cannot repay.

Here's to another year of bat crap crazy nonsense, terrific stories, and heartfelt comradery!

Happy Plazajuniorverszary to you all! Many thanks to all the people who make this place the fun happy little home that it is, rather than just a weird bunch of html code abandoned in a folder on my computer, which is what I figured this would all amount to when I was making the thing. Special props to Sil and Uruva for the inspiring Rocky-style montage of encouragement and how-to-do-admin-things training in the early going, and the current admin peeps for being such pros at keeping everything going. I very fondly remember that wild flood of folks streaming in from the FB page a year ago and all the collective excitement we felt, and I'm still loving logging in and seeing all these familiar names and knowing that there's still plently folks who love this strange ancient dispersed conceptual community called Plaza as much as I do.

When I first saw it I found it hard to believe that the site existed, so invented some sort of a cover username to spy and see whether it would last. But hey... didn't take that long to jump into it up to my ears and forget all caution.

It was fun to be looking through the Facebook group mere minutes after it went live. I believe I was the second person to join NuPlaza and those first few hours were a bit crazy with many of us having mere minutes between our join times.

And having this community has done wonders for my mental health over this last year. Even though I'm nowhere near as active as I was a year ago, I hope that this little corner of the internet is here for a long time to come. It's been great playing in Middle Earth with you all again and getting to know you all better through the insanity that is our discord server.

Narv, my lands, look what you've done. I'd given up ever seeing this place again outside of the parts that Idril and I had archived. This is amazing, so many wonderful, happy memories here. My goodness, I'm so pleased and impressed with all you've done. I have to take a look around, decide if there's a place for these old bones around here somewhere. Congratulations, my friend.
