A general question: winter is gone, so probably the Winter Inn should retire. Anyone would be interested in a regular pub of sorts?

I've got a lot on my plate for Gondor right now unfortunately so I can't do any pubs again yet until I get through the list I posted in the Healing House OOC. Cassie and I talked about how the Winter Inn aftermath for our characters though so that's good. So, yes, I'm personaly interested, but not for the present moment.

the question should be, are you comfortable with Fleeg serving you drinks at said regular pub?

@Pele Alarion, that makes a lot of sense. :winkkiss: Go for it.

@Prometherion  I don’t expect you’d find very many Gondorians who’d willingly drink what a goblin gives them, let alone pay for the privilege ! :headshake:

Well then, I promise none of my Gondorian characters will be suspicious or goblins in disguise. Absolutely. They will be perfectly normal human person who are not several goblins in a trench coat

If a bunch of Rangers etc can not spot a totem pole of goblins desguised in a trenchcoat, then they deserve anything that the hypothetical suspicious type ‘Gondorian’ decides to try and serve them. :googly:

@Pele Alarion - I'd be delighted! Although, it would be nice to have a theme, or at least some guidelines or limitations  because knowing me the drinks list will be 2 arms long  and the food menu will look like something that walked out of a Byzantine royal dinner  However, if that's what folks really want I'd be more than happy to oblige

I'm sure the letter will be the best post I'll respond tonight, @Ercassie 🤗⚘!

@Pele Alarion , it's still a fancy place! Issy and I are writing at the Tavern in Northern Fiefdoms. I mention it's orchestra in the Beren post I'm nearly finished with. 🎵

@Afird Splitax I think you've gotten the last play in the wrong place - I think it's suppose to be under Tuna since it's Te the played not et. (even if et does give me a better shot at a few words that might make up the misses I had a few rounds back)

*Sneaks in* Hiya folks. Just popping in briefly to say I miss hanging out and writing with all of you. Life has been incredibly busy the last many months, and looks like it will continue to be that way for a while. It has been almost a year since I found this reboot, and I am happy it is still going and Gondor is still a place even if I can't come play at the moment.

@Afird Splitax - I included a quote for "ite" in an effort to support its validity as a word... @Tarawen and I were sort of uncertain if you'd accept it or not and opted to go for it and find out. If its not ok, we have a backup play in mind (if that's allowed).

Hi @Lailyn and @Tarawen!

ite is not in the Scrabble Dictionary, nor is it a Tolkien word. I do not think it can be used as a valid word. I understand its use in your quote as letters only and not a word.

I would go for your back up. You may use your one grace period to do so.

Cheers!

@Fuin Elda and Moriel and @Tarawen and Lailyn and @ Pele Alarion and Prometherion

The last tiles have been distributed. The game continues until one of the TEAMS either uses all their tiles or is unable to make a play. Once that happens the round is completed. Any remaining tiles will be subtracted from the final score.

Good luck!

hi @Afird Splitax! I think you may have missed adding some scores up in a few rounds...Pele and Frost still had 207 points before and after their turn playing YEWS and Tara and myself had 232 before and after we played TIER.

Hi @Lailyn! I am going over the scores now and must admit that this has been my worst WS update game (mind you,fun as heck) ever, hahaha. So many errors. I guess RL is distracting me this match. My apologies... :smooch:

I found an error here: viewtopic.php?p=45146#p45146. Your score should have been 145 not 155. I have adjusted yours and Tara's score and Pele and Frost's. All other scores look good.

Thanks for keeping up on it. I appreciate it!

Friends, Gondorians, countrymen in this essay I shall...

Yup, it's that time again  A few months back I asked you lovely people about doing an In Memoriam thread and I got positive feedback from you guys and a lot of thinking material. So I got to thinking about it... A few days ago me and @Ercassie were chatting on Discord (in all honesty I was nattering, she was being polite and made appropriate humming noises  ) and she mentioned in passing that it was a shame that Gondor doesn't have something similar to the Ever On thread...

How do these 2 things connect? I hear you ask. Well, it got me thinking. In Memoriam was envisioned as an exploration of one event, the end of the War of the Ring and the fall of Sauron and how this event affected people of all races and how that event was commemorated. However, Gondor as a Kingdom and as a geographical area has such a rich and diverse history and there are certainly many events/topics spanning all time periods of Arda that we as RP-ers might want to explore. Honestly, although we do have existing threads in Gondor (The Northern and Southern Fiefdoms) where flashback posts are allowed and anyone can write those histories there, they are also in a way anchored in the current Gondorian timeline (Fo.A. 2 - 5). I wanted a thread in Gondor that would allow anyone to explore the (many possible) future(s) and events that the records show happened in the 4th Age (e.g. Legolas and the colony of elves arriving to settle in Ithilien, the royal children...) and also to have a chance to move and polish some of the posts from the Old Plaza from the joint Gondor & Rohan Northern Winds and Southern Storm campaigns...

In essence, my idea is to make a sort of (super) Free RP thread for all the stories from Gondorian history (both Gondor as a geographical space and as a Kingdom) from all time periods (from the Years of the Trees to the Age of Men). It would be a combination of a loose free historical RP thread with some non-obliging RP prompts from the TR thrown in whenever we, as members of the Kingdom, decide that some event might be worth highlighting. For example one of the prompts could be the 1st Remembrance ceremony, or the first interaction of the indigenous people living in Gondor to the arrival of the Numenoreans, what happened to the elven port in Dol Amroth and elven inhabitants of the Ethir Anduin region, or imagining the formation of ME version of VOC in Pelargir or a Renaissance-like period in Gondor 120 years from the current timeline, or a 100-years-from now a descendant of your current character finds a historical account of your current character. What does it say?

At this point I'm just throwing ideas here so I don't forget  But how does this concept sound to you? Is it something appealing, deserving of a separate thread and would you participate? I'd throw out prompts every now and then, they wouldn't have a time limit and participation would be encouraged, but not mandatory. You could post your stories in the thread and ignore these writing prompts no harm no foul. If it sounds vague it's because I didn't formulate the guidelines clearly, I'm just using you lot as a focus group/feedback central :heartrainbow:

@Nessa Saelind

It’s time for me to shape those non commital noises into an articulate, or at least more understandable, hopefully, opinion. And I hope I haven’t completely misinterpreted your thoughts here.

What I understood from your proposal was that you were thinking of a thread that can expand upon our already existing Free RP threads, without merely replicating the likes of Inladris’s Ever and Beyond thread. Because it’s always best to be original. More like something that can accommodate the ‘In memorial’ RP idea with other similar and yet varied ‘Gondorian Experiences’. :headbang:

In my mind, and again I hope I have not completely misunderstood your intention, but the thread in question would be like a blend of Winddancer’s ‘write a story from a random prompt’ contest thread that we had a while back, combined with specifically Gondorian/Arnorian/relevant prompts, in perhaps the style of Taethowen’s wonderful character development thread in COLP. That occasional prompts would be thrown out by a Threadrunner to ask people to respond IC to an event or such relating specifically to this kingdom; inclusive of historical (as way back historical as you want) and future also/fourth age as can be entertained.

So say your first prompt is
‘Today is the first anniversary of the siege of Pelargir/Minas Tirith/the kings ascension to the throne Etc. Aragorn has declared a national holiday. How do you spend your day ? Respond in RP please.’

And rather than have everyone just doing their own thing in that thread, unprompted, because I would suggest that this would make it just like any other Free RP thread, I would say instead that people would be encouraged to suggest in city hall perhaps or by otherwise contacting the Thread runner, of a idea for a prompt they would like to see brought to the thread next. Which gives it a flavour of ‘giving the people what they want’ and should inspire activity accordingly.

This would certainly work in regard to the in memorial idea and could cover a broad range of ‘experiences’, which invite both members of this kingdom and anyone on plaza actually to come and play out a random selected Gondorian scenario. It would encourage and assist IC development for our already existing characters and/or their ancestors/descendants. But it could just as easily be a very non committal ‘try on a Gondorian perspective’ for just a one off or however often you feel comfortable/inspired to do so. Which would be nice and flexible for people who like to just RP as and when, rather than constantly.

That would be my take on it, clearly blending the good ideas other people have made and making some crazy soup of them in a way that showcases the diverse and colourful expanse of Gondorian/Gondor related RP opportunities. Something very unique to this kingdom but at the same time welcome to even other characters, say enemies, or neighbours, whose own lives were affected during/by a Gondorian ‘event’. We would in a sense be building our own history book of interpreting canon and creative events, which I think would bond our general sense of mutual IC history.

If you are looking for a way to incorporate the anniversary RP/memorials previously proposed with a more general and educational/entertaining way of RP, discovering important experiences IC that can be explored by ever more evolving characters or one off disposable sort of NPCs. That would be my take on it anyway.

Many apologies if I have, as I expect, misconstrued your seed of thought. I have a tendency. :googly: But sometimes things grow in ways we do not ever expect and that certainly seems true here. Where the simple (or so it initially seemed) idea of RPing a Gondorian Memorial Day in various manners and accommodating diverse customs of the entire sprawling and ever changing realm … I’ve lost my point somewhere along the way. So best I stop here anyway. Save to say that when I said in this post ‘Gondorian’, that I meant inclusive of Arnor and Numenor, etc that are clearly associated. :smooch:

*runs away*

As always @Ercassie you hit the nail on the head  you managed to express my ideas more eloquently than I did :smooch:

The thread I envisioned would borrow elements from many other threads: taking any age concept from the Ever Beyond regarding timelines, prompts and from Taeth's Character development thread and Windy's tell an interesting story from someone's POV... Mixing all of these ideas into an augmented Gondorian RP experience, one that would also complement existing threads. In addition to RP-ing and developing our existing characters or exploring newly made Gondorian characters, anyone could take on the mantle of any Gondorian canon character for any prompt and show us their interpretation of that canon character or show a part of the canon character they think was not emphasised enough... It would be interesting to see how different members of the Plaza would portray the same canon character like Denethor or Queen Berúthiel or Isildur or Castamir or *insert canon character of choice* and what parts of their personality would they choose to highlight.

As for the prompts, they would be self-paced with no time limit attached to them. This would allow the RP-ers to respond to them whenever they have a good idea for it and time to develop it. Also, I would like to encourage collaborations for the prompts  either prearranged and agreed upon or those that would spring after reading somebody's post. e.g. A collaboration between X and Y as an IC response to prompt no. 1 ‘Today is the first anniversary of the siege of Pelargir/Minas Tirith/the king's ascension to the throne etc. Aragorn has declared a national holiday. How do you spend your day? Respond in RP please.’

The number of prompts and their frequency would depend on the interest and time that people have  And I wholeheartedly approve of people suggesting prompts here in the OOC or e-mailing or DM-ing me (my inbox like saloon remember  ). I would like to have 2, one future prompt and one from the past, so people can choose what is more interesting to them or do both if they feel inspired.

@Nessa Saelind honestly I am so excited by your idea and so keen to see the memorial concept appear in RP, that I am very close to channelling a certain Dragon and shout ‘Just do it ! Start it ! What are you waiting for ?’ :headbang: And I call myself Gondorian/synonymous with talking every detail to death at times ! :googly:

So as I am embracing this atypical decisive attitude on this fine day, can I please ask for some kind Admin to officially close up our Winter Inn thread please ? @Pele Alarion gave notice over a month ago that this was on the cards and since no one seems to have an inclination to continue RPing in a wintery setting, as we sit in mid June now, it makes sense. As a pop up sort of experiment it seemed to go rather well for its intended temporary capacity. But the sun is now out. And we do have the Guesthouse as a fall back if anyone is pub-minded in Gondor until @Pele Alarion and @Nessa Saelind’s tavern shows it’s summer face. Thanks :winkkiss:
