Once again we return to the merry rolling fields and forests of the Shire after our pre season race here. This time the track no longer decorated with pumpkins and hay bales but newly budding wild flowers and puddles as Spring comes into full swing.

A good many dainties and meals and barrels of ale purchased from nearby pubs has been laid out in proper hobbit party fashion near the stands for those to watch the race.

There were many great rows of crates, each row a different size, and flagged with different colours, with the names of the kingdom over them. There was quite a ruckus in a few of them as some of the animals knew it was time to race and they were quite excited, others were lazy lumps and fast asleep. All of the crates held animals that any person might use to race for that particular kingdom should they not have their own.

Imladris crates hold hedgehogs and are posted under the colour #408080 (Teal)

Lothlorien crates hold foxes and are posted under the colour #00BFFF (Light Blue)

Khazad Dum crates hold badgers and are posted under the colour #FF40FF (Grey)

Gondor crates hold skunks and are posted under the colour BLACK (No colour code required)

Rohan crates hold raccoons and are posted under the colour #00BF00 (Light Green)

Shire crates hold coneys and are posted under the colour #800080 (Purple)

Fangorn crates hold squirrels and are posted under the colour #008000 (Green)

Isengard crates hold rats and are posted under the colour #0040FF (Royal Blue)

Mordor crates hold snakes and are posted under the colour #800000 (Dark Red)

From a booth above and behind the spectator stands comes a cheerful voice announcing that the fourth race was about to start.

"We invite all racers to chose whichever kingdom they would like to participate as, but please only participate for ONE kingdom, all of our major announcements for the race will be made over this channel. (#FF0000 - BRIGHT RED)
And if you have any questions please visit the race announcing booth and ask!

Bikki and Miss Torypory

Afird was away searching for some magical herb and Drifa, well she was off trying to find 'herself' on a pilgrimage down the Old Dwarven road. Afird had promised Drifa that he would look after the badgers whilst she was away. And now that Afird was away, the task had fallen to young dwarf (only 32 years of age) named, Bikki. He was excited to have the chance to race, for it always seemed like the old dwarves had the privilege to do so, and the first choice at picking a badger. It had taken him a few days to find the right badger. For, Dragon was Drifa's special badger and Olfat was Afird's concern (and he could have him, thought the young dwarf picturing the over-weight boar). But final he had found Miss Torypory. She was a feisty young sow full of energy, and she had a pretty white strip down her nose. They seemed to be a perfect pain. And so, with provisions packed and plenty of worms, it wasn't long before they were off to the Shire. This was Bikki's first visit to the land of Hobbits west of the Brandywine, and he was quite excited.

And now, as he bribed Miss Torypory out of her crate with the old worm dangling trick, Bikki lead her to the starting line, eager to see what she could do as a racer.

Fuin with Snuggles

Fuin of course was well known for giving her pets ridiculous names. She could think of no better name for her prickly friend the tiny and slightly grumpy hedgehog that she had as a racer than Snuggles. His small rage might of course be fueled by the fact his name was Snuggles. She however gave him lots of sweet fruit and was quite excellent at belly rubs and kept him safe from things that would eat him in general so he put up with the nonsense racing that they did. He glanced over at a badger on the starting line beside him and let out a tiny raging squeak at the much much larger creature. And Fuin wondered just how long Snuggles would live if the Badger decided to take out the tiny Hedgehog. After all there was only so much that she could do to protect the tiny but prickly creature.

And with that the racers were off as a bell was rung signalling the start of the race.

Miss Torypory lifted her snout to smell the air. A new racer had arrived on the scene. She had smelt this creature's scent before, and turned her nose up at it. Some of her kind enjoyed feasting on these animals, but not her. It was too prickly for her liking, with all its quills. She dare not attempt anything that might damage her sleek coat and pretty white stripe . Also, it played games this creature that she thought were rather childish, like rolling into a ball. No, she attempted to stick to the less messy fodder such as nuts and fruit. And she had a fine tuned way of eating worms, slugs and grubs that kept her pretty snout slime and dirt free. Occasionally she might get a hankering to rip apart a mole or two, but the delectable, mouthwatering, earthworms were all she really needed.
And so, with her nose still turned up and making sure her back was straight (posture was oh so important), she bursted into a girlish gallop attempting to distance herself from the competition.

Fuin with Snuggles

Snuggles was quite terrified of the giant badger even if the badger really wanted absolutely nothing to do with him. This did mean that they went entirely the wrong way though and ended up behind the badger. He heard a bit of shouting from Fuin encouraging him to turn around that the badger wanted absolutely nothing to do with him. With a shy little peak towards the badger he noticed she was right. Perhaps it wouldn't hurt to try running the other way

Your racer managed to get the attention of a few local non racing badgers that are quite impressed with her beauty and grace how does she keep from being distracted by them?

Bikki wasn't sure what was going on. Some local badgers were hugging the sidelines of the race track and were putting on quite a show. The dwarf was surprised to hear the creatures whistling. Maybe these Shire badgers had the knack, but Bikki had never heard a badger whistle before. They were also grunting and making noises that sounded rather randy. Miss Torypory , preening and primping like there was no tomorrow, was swinging her back-side quite aggressively suddenly and her face had turned a bright pink - all this causing her to stop racing.
Scratching his chin, the dwarf could think of only one thing to do to get his racer back on track. He threw the box of worms he had been using to entice his badger, at the group by the sidelines. The whistling stopped as soon as the creatures realized what was in the box. They then dove into the wiggling feast. He had saved a few to coax Miss Torypory, hopefully. She looked in a pouty mood suddenly.

Fuin with Snuggles

Snuggle raced ahead of the badger with a terrified squeak for there were plenty more badgers about no and he had no idea about them but Fuin had said to run so he was running as fast as his tiny inch long legs could carry him. Who thought that hedgehogs would make good racers? They were mad men. Or Mad elves this this case. What was wrong with them.

Snuggles could think of quite a few things honestly.

Bikki was busy digging up the rich Shire earth in search of worms and didn't notice the small hedgehog 🦔that raced by his badger. He was also too busy digging to see Miss Torypory stamp one of her front paws in girlish frustration at having been left behind in the dust by of all things, a spiked rat. Forgetting all about the dudes on the sidelines, and whether or not she would break a sweat causing her sleek coat to turn greasy, she dashed forward in a full gallop.

Fuin with Snuggles

He was feeling rather pleased with himself when he heard a a stomp he paused in his brisk little scurry through the tall grass. Well to Snuggles it was, as he could barely see through the tall blades that surrounded him He was a bit apprehensive about the noise then he heard the sound of galloping feet and he let out a shriek as loud as his little lungs would go and took off away from the galloping footsteps.

Fuin had no idea how lucky she was that thus far after turning around that first time that he was still even going in the right direction.

Bikki, with his worm box full once more, followed the race track. The country side in this land was very rolling and green and homely. He enjoyed the fresh air, and the trees. But, he knew he would miss the hard stone beneath his feet after a time.
Catching up to Miss Torypory, he jogged behind her as she continued to move forward but at a slower pace. He was ready with the worms if she became to haughty and refused to race. Mind, the small hedgehog was raising her hackles by leading the race at this point. Maybe she would just keep on going and he wouldn't have to worry about feeding her worms, for the now.

His terror seemed to have served him exceptionally well He had a good bit further to go so he put his wee head up, because putting it down would have just caused him more issues since he was already having issues with how tall the grass was. What was this place? Ruled by giants? Almost as bad as those bleeding elves that thought hedgehogs would make good racers. He just wanted to get to the finish line and go back in his comfortable crate with his wee comfy warm nest and maybe some grubs or fruit to nibble on. Ohhh or toast with honey on it. Yes that would also be good. He'd have to squeak at his elf until she provided him with toast and honey

Miss Torypory licked her paw and cleaned her face. She could feel the grim (dust and sweat) on her sleek coat from her last outburst. It felt dreadful. The humans attempt to entice her with worms could not change her mood. She was furious that she had been left in the dust plus, that she was covered with it. But she was tenacious, and could not abide the fact that the little spiked rat had advanced so far ahead of her. And so, with one last ditch attempt, she wrinkled up her cute little snout and took off with a tremendous burst of speed galloping as though the wild Were-worms in the Last Desert were flinging more grim at her.

Well it looks like Miss Torypory gave it her all but sadly Snuggles seems to have gotten just far enough ahead at the thought of toast with honey to win out the race!
