I have a newbie question, and so I figure that this is the best place for it. The Wayback Machine. What is it, how does it work, and why are some old plaza links recoverable whilst others aren't?

Basically its snapshots of the old archives, which is why some work and others dont. Best bet is to go to the forum you are looking for (here) each one has an archive thread with working links. It not a plaza archive, its a general one for all websites, but its all we got :(

@Frostbite Thank you! I'm happy to be here too! I was here a long time ago, although I had a different username and wasn't super active back then. I'm back now after hearing from my sister (a much more active member back in the day and probably now too) that the Plaza had returned!

@Dimcairien Luiniel I think I was active back at the beginning. Like 2003 or 2004 maybe? Is that when this site started? I can't remember! It was definitely a long time ago around when the LOTR films came out. I think I might've been an elf back then too. So either Lothlorien or Imladris. But I can't remember either!

@Baingíl Randír, my Wilderlands partner-in-crime - I think I still have a smirky snarky elf sitting in the Mirkwood Guard's dungeons... I think @Burnt Toast was part of that storyline too.
@Eléowyn, @Shivased were some of the first people I met when I first joined Western Mountains! Corlisswyn will always be a daughter of Rohan :) @Wamba_the_Fool, if I remember correctly, was ever the Istari, and to play in Isengard, I created Kulunin the Tangerine :)
I assume @Dwim is Dwimmerlaik from Lothlorien old? and what is the Shire without @Menolly and @Aigronding Mordagnir is still writing books for posts, I see? There are so many bits of awesomeness here, and I know there are so many more people to remember and reconnect with!

Honestly I've spent half the evening just looking in the old way-back machine to try to remember even just a little bit of my character catalog. I found my dwarf, my hobbits, my cave troll (important!), and my Istari, Ent, and Spider.

@Aigronding Mordagnir, Eilinwen and Thurin's tales are ones I thought of when I first wanted to play in Imladris all those years ago. I never did get around to telling their tales. But you'll find that Thurin's been delivered to the house of Elrond for easy startup :) You're posts and storylines have always been EPIC!

Awww, your praise about my storylines makes my day, @corlisswyn ! Soon I'll have a thread in the Cottage open concerning my original saga and what I'm doing for it while NaNoWriMo is happening later this year.

If you want to RP Thurin's tale out, we have the Last Homely House thread and Adab Nestad in the Imladris Forum. We also have a Ranger outpost, Osdolen (one of the staple activities of Eriador in the old Plaza), open. I'm half-done with a post in the Last Homely House currently and Elrond will be showing up soon. Hoping to finish it by Tuesday night or Wednesday morning (because of work shifts).

OK, so I’m going to be totally pissed off if I wake up tomorrow and realized that I dreamed the plaza back into life in my head. I may need to be pinched a few times :)
BTW, I got old while off the plaza, now I’m an old person and going to bed at 2am isn’t a thing for me anymore. I don’t know how I’m going to explain to my gym trainer tomorrow morning why I only got four hours of sleep last night.
