Ian Holm 1931-2020

"As for myself," said Eomer, "I have little knowledge of these deep matters; but I need it not."

He reached a fine old vintage, even if it's not eleventy-one. Rest in peace, Ian.

Very sad news. Our flat will all be raising a glass to him this evening.

This is a sad day...the first role I saw him in was as Mr. Kurtzman in Brazil. A movie inspired by George Orwell's 1984. If any one hasn't seen it yet, I highly recommend it. In my opinion, Ian Holm brought Bilbo to life and was one of the best parts about FOTR.

Awesome age to get to, but gods I did not know he was that ill before he passed. Sadness :(

Tragic news. He was a fantastic actor -- both in and out of LoTR.

A sad loss. Our world is a little poorer without him.

He was as much Frodo (from the audio drama series) to me as he was Bilbo. I didn't even know he was unwell. There's now a gap in the fabric of the world.

Wild that he quit acting in the 70's due to stage fright. Happens to the best of us I guess. Glad he came back to make such an impact for all of us. He is an inspiration, and his passing a sadness.

I'm going to have to listen to the 1981 BBC radio adaptation again. I only listened to it once. Over the last several years it's I immediately think "Ian Holm is Bilbo" but he was such a great Frodo in the radio adaptation. I'm glad some of his other roles have been mentioned, he truly played a variety of parts wonderfully.

So... a little piece from something I found today...

Which makes me want to listen to the BBC radio adaptation this weekend.
