Note that the 'admin team' (such as it is) isn't running this or anything but we are there if people want to contact us. Hopefully this will help a bit with the contacting-people-outside-of-posts issue (but I will still try to fix that for people who don't want to join the discord).

[edit: That means that if any issues come up on the Discord (technical or otherwise) our power to help with that is gonna be limited. It looks awesome and I don't foresee any problems there but just wanted to make that a little more clear]

I told my husband about the Plaza being back up and on Discord. He geeked out and tried to tell me everything about it. A lot of it went over my head, but I got the gist.
He's considering joining the Plaza too, but he already has a full time job in the software/ database industry. So if he does join us on here, it would be just occasionally. He's also trying to resist offering his help. (Such a sweet guy! Glad I met him.)

Ironically, he is logging into Discord right now for his Minecraft Mondays with one of his good buddies from our church. With the shelter in place, we definitely want our writing and roleplaying outlets!

I don't see why we can't have some occassional people here :D. A lot of us are busy and will be busy in the future, after all.

Is the temporary link thing intentional? Just wondering because you can actually change it so the link becomes permanent and you don't have to keep providing temp links. Just below the invite link you can 'edit invite link' and set it to never expire, or whatever timeframe you want

It's too bad there's no way to have maybe a public link, but then make it such that accessing it only requests access instead of letting you in.. then @Aduchil or whoever could verify people before letting them in and we wouldn't have these expiring links. I don't suppose there's a way to do something like that with Discord permissions? I don't anything about it personally..

anyway I agree the current temp-link setup is definitely better than the fully public link, now that we seem to be at least somewhat accessible via google and such

It is possible to do, though it would require more admins. I'll give it some thought what might be the best solution, whether to stick with temporary links on request or separate new arrivals on the server.

A suggestion was made (came up when neither you nor Din were on) was to maybe have the new admin team get rights on the discord? Cause if anything ever does happen there, they could deal with it too.

I'm cautious about treating the discord as any kind of official extension of the site since it's pretty much impossible to moderate it to the same degree as the site itself, and I've liked having the separation of powers.. but I def take your point that it would be helpful to be able to coordinate in the event of bad stuff happening. And also the discord gets significantly more activity than the actual site (which is great btw, saves us mad bandwidth on chat threads), so I imagine it can be a lot for Aduchil and Din to handle. So it's definitely something I'm open to figuring out with the incoming team + the current discord runners.

I think it's best to select admins for the server separately for a few reasons. Narv mentions keeping a degree of separation, which I think is wise. Also being an admin on plaza is work enough without asking the same people to also devote time to discord, or feel that they must be "on duty" rather than chat and relax.

But there could be reasons why overlap of admin responsibility is useful, and I just haven't thought of them. So delaying the decision for now.

To build a quick metaphor, as a custodian, the last thing I want to do when I get home is start cleaning again. Admins on one side don't need to be admins on the other. Just a quick 2 cents.

Makes sense to me @Aduchil, maybe once this election thing is through we can figure out to what extent we want to coordinate the two. Long may there be concord with the Discord
