So, last night, we watched The Princess Bride for the 284723987 time but our kids forgot they had seen it, which was fun....and it reminded me of this half-written poem I had started (you'll see why). Figured I would post some things I've been working on and off on. My creative juices certainly have dried up over the years, but as long as someone likes them more than Vogon poetry, I think we'll be okay *g*

The Wish
I lay dying on the burning desert sand,
pouring my heart and soul to the sun.
When darkness befell my eyes,
I let my self sink into it's black pits.
I awoke, to the croaking voice
of a crooked old man.
His withered hands brushed my brow,
a trickle of cold water upon my face.
I asked him what I was doing here,
as I gazed around at the oasis around me.
"You said you had to live...due to a true love."
he replied with a smile.
Indeed, I had told the blazing sun that I loved.
This one man in particular...
I could not live without.
"So what will you have me do?"
I asked, rising to my feet.
"You have three wishes, my dear,"
He answered me, crossing his arms.
"Choose them wisely...let your heart decide."
I pondered for a while,
reflecting back upon my life.
and began to make my wishes,
trusting my heart to make
the wisest choices.
I wished for a best friend,
the one I knew I never had..
and the old man, lead you towards me.
Stunned, I blurted out
that I wanted a true love.
A love that will stay strong
until the ends of time.
no matter if it was wrong or right.
And you placed your hand in mine,
gazing into my eyes;
my wish was once again fulfilled.
Lastly, tears of stunned joy
running down my cheeks,
I asked for a future,
in which I would be happy.
Once again, the old man
motioned to you, standing next to me,
holding my hand and gazing at me
with that smile of yours. The old man,
a smile on his withered face, gave a wise nod.
"As you wish..."
