“There’s only one dragon in Bywater, and that’s Green!”

The Green Dragon Inn at Bywater is a squat, comfortable building with white walls and brown timbers. Its thatched roofs rise two stories above the green landscape, with smoky chimneystacks rising from each. The first floor is the tavern and aleroom, where many wooden tables and benches line the walls, and a row of well-worn stools line the bar. Behind the bar, a heavy oak thing with a time and candle-scarred top, sit barrels of ale and cider, bottles of mead and wine and firkins of pale cordial sit conveniently to hand. Also behind the bar are two doors, on of which leads to the kitchen. Through the other, stairs go down from the lamp-lit and smoky aleroom to the cellar, where the stocks of drinks and cold foods are kept. Across the room at the back of the tavern, stairs wind upward to the second floor of the Green Dragon, where off a narrow hallway are several comfortable rooms, where a weary traveler may pass the night- though how much sleep they will get above the boisterous noise of the hobbits below is questionable.

A new innkeeper has come to the Green Dragon, and the establishment (owned by the infrequently seen Faldranas Took) is now run by Miss Rose Cotton, a maid of many talents who can dispense all manner of spirits, make a bed in ten seconds flat, carry six mugs at a go and bake a mean peach pie. Assisting her with chores and deliveries and whatever else needs doing is Billy Blackwater, a somewhat scruffy looking tween who does his best. And as the innkeeper's cheerful-but-strong right hand, Pearl Brockhouse serves as a barmaid, an ever indispensable person! The Green Dragon Inn is open to all hobbits, friends and acquaintances, and is a place for food, drink, song and merriment, whether you’re young dandy looking to impress a sweet lady, or an old Gaffer after an evening brew and a pipe.

Gaffer’s Pale Ale – A light, hoppy ale, perfect for sitting and spinning yarns without losing one’s head.
Raspberry Ale – A fruity beer, smooth and sweet.
Oatmeal Stout – Very smooth and rich, if slightly bitter, and quite dark.
Southfarthing Stout – A rich, double-stout homebrew, dark and murky, and liable to knock the socks off an unsuspecting young hobbit.
Old Cider – Potent apple cider, well aged.
Rosehip Cordial – A light, sweet, slightly syrupy drink flavored with rosehips and a hint of ginger.
Mead – Also called honey wine, pale and sweet, but exceedingly strong
Blackberry Wine – A secret, strong, dark wine imported from sources unknown (see Adab Gelir) by Faldranas Took; rumors abound that it is of elven-craft, no doubt compounded by the inability of hobbits to remember much of the night before when they have overindulged.
Tea – Black, Peppermint, Orange

Roasted Chicken – Whole or half, cooked on a spit over an open fire and basted in its own drippings, well salted and peppered, with a hint of rosemary.
Roasted Coney – Tender rabbit, whole or half, seasoned and stuffed with onion and sage
Bangers and Mash – Beef sausage and fluffy mashed potatoes, with onion gravy.
Stuffed Mushrooms – Big white mushroom caps stuffed with chopped stems, bread crumbs, cheese, chives and vinegar; baked until hot and melty.
Baked Apples – A big, juicy cored apple, stuffed with raisins, brown sugar, butter, lemon juice and pecans, and baked until soft.

PUB SETTING
The summer is high and hot, and dusk is just beginning to fall and cool the air as the Dragon opens for the evening!

Rosie Cotton threw wide the doors of the Green Dragon Inn, in the hope of enticing an evening breeze. The day had been hot, and now that dusk was settling over the Shire, surely some relief must be at hand! Every window was open as well (except for one in a room occupied by a stuffy old lady who seemed to prefer her room as stuffy as herself), and Rosie anticipated that soon the whole place would be cooling off. The light from the open doors was sure to attract a few extra customers too, like moths to a flame, when night fell and it became properly dark! She hadn't been running the place for long, but Rosie had been barmaid herself here before moving up to the lofty position of innkeeper, and everyone knew her. She was glad of Pearl, and of course, of little Billy- mischievous though he might be at times. One never knew what he might get up to on a given day, but he did try his best to be helpful when he was at the Dragon, and Rosie was happy to help him in return. She took a deep breath of the hot summer air, and it seemed that a hint of evening freshness tinged it. Rosie grinned.

"Billy!" she called, turning back to the empty interior of the tavern with a swirl of skirts. "Billy?" She called again, her first attempt having not resulted in the sound of running feet. Rosie strode behind the bar and bent down to peer behind the barrels- but no errant tween was hiding there. She sighed and shook her head, then tossed her auburn curls, and took up a clean cloth to polish the glasses. Wherever the boy was, he would turn up!

It had taken her ALL day to get there eventually a farmer had taken pity on the old hobbit from Oatbarton (she'd also plied him with an apple tart and when he realized who it was and that it would be an absolute sin to pass one an apple tart from Granny Appie Smith even if one didn't want to listen to her deaf shouting while attempting to carry on a conversation.

The cart ride got her to Hobbiton and she found a nice stone fence to sit on as getting down to the ground was far to difficult for her. Well the getting down was easy. Getting back up was the issue, and she pulled out a second tart to nibble on as the sun set before she headed for the pub itself she'd heard there was some nice ale out this way again. She was curious perhaps she could get some and make some ale soaked apple pie. Yes that would be nice.

With that she hobbled into the pub it's doors swung open wide she'd brought coin enough for drinks and meal and perhaps, a stay in a nice big bed that someone else has to deal with the laundry of when she leaves. Yes that would be nice. She tottered her way up to the bar and gave the young looking lass a smile.

"A STOUT PLEASE." She said slipping a few coppers on the counter from her well worn coin purse. "AND MAYBE IF YOU"VE ANYTHING WITH APPLE FOR FOOD?" Indeed she was always wandering the Shire seeing what people were doing with apples.
